Village Challenge II

Season 2030

For 2029 :
Team Performance : 84/100
Franchise Value : 100/100
Profit Loss : 64/100 (!)
Difficulty : 72/100

YEAR END SCORE : 83 :

Stadium :
Construction of a new stadium for your team has just
been completed. The capacity of the new stadium is 99,900
and it has 399 luxury boxes and 199 VR boxes.

also, we've signed a new 7-year television contract. more money.

Please welcome the following players for induction
into the Hall of Fame this season:
Jon Clemons
Dana Cox
Kendall Bozarth
Blake Ellis

Please say goodbye to the Cleveland Browns All-Time leading receiver Robbie Jeffries who called it a career after 14 glorious seasons establishing new Brown records with 11930 yards and 79 TD catches.
Robbie is a lock to be inducted in the Browns Hall of Fame in 3 years...

So here is the cap situation :
we are in VERY BAD shape actually (around $55M under) but this not enough since we only have 40 players signed and 6 starters now FA !
It was IMPOSSIBLE to sign these guys last year because -they are star players- and they ask for top salaries that we couldn't afford last year (we were $2M under the cap entering the season opener) and that we will have trouble affording AGAIN this year.
Here is the list of the 6 FA starters :

QB Sammy McNight (franchised player cuz he's a keeper)
CB Jumbo Bell
DT Riddick Tubbs
WR Jimmy Etaton
DT Reggie Ogden
CB Darryl Hutchins

Trade Offers :
The Rams propose RB Machaldo + their 1st Rd pick (32nd) for DE Kurt Wiese.
The Bills propose DE Darrell Kafka + 2nd round pick for FB Brett Jilinek.
both trades are rejected.

Out of the three players we tried to resign regarding our cap situation,
DT Reggie Odgen signed with Atlanta and WR Jimmy Etaton went to Indianapolis, the team that knocked us out last year in the Playoffs.
But we signed DB Darryl Hutchins to a 5 year deal and grabbed WR Lincoln Shapiro (6 year vet, former #4 overall pick and Offensive rookie of the year in 2025)
Shapira had 81 catches for 1062 yards last year, so he should help us fill the gap of Etaton's departure.

With Jeffries retired, WR Jim Henderson now has to step up for good.
WE currently have just 2 wideouts signed, we'll try to get one in the draft if possible

3 trades for Jelinek, Woodons and Theophilakos are rejected.
We then renegociate a bunch of contracts and wait for after the draft to sign QB Sammy McNight to a long term deal. He's currently ranked at 83 by our scour with a future at...100.

The 2030 NFL Draft :

We own two 1st round picks (17th and 33rd) as well as two 2nd, a 3rd and two 4th and a 5th rounder.
there is a GREAT wide receiver in this draft, Stanley Lewinsky 6"0 195 lbs out of Maryland. Obviously he should go high so i'll try to trade up.
The San Francisco 49ers use their #1 overall pick on a RB (for the 2nd year in a row) since last year's #1 RB had a "bust" season.
The 49ers also own the #2 overall pick so we go for the trade :

We send our two 1st rounders + 2 high priced aging starters (S Arnold Storey -13 year vet- and Duane Hanson -16 year vet-) for the 49ers' #2 pick and TE Jordan Kendall (we need a backup to Marvin Welch).

2030 Draft Report:

Rnd 1 - Stanley Lewinsky, WR, Maryland (63/96 100 77/100 94 100 !)

the scouts rate him at 83 (2nd best behind Shapiro's 86 and ahead of Henderson) with a future at 100 !

Rnd 2 - Brian Brigance, T, Florida (powerful Tackle that will provide interesting depth)
Rnd 2 - Warren Robbins, CB, Baylor (could become a very good CB)
Rnd 3 - Rickey Hosken, CB, Baylor (should be a career backup, but a good one)
Rnd 4 - Randal Winslett, WR, Western Carolina
Rnd 4 - Rodney Bruce, RB, Florida
Rnd 5 - Willie Browning, G, Florida State

Lewinsky, I believe, is going to become the next Wallace/Jeffries for Sammy McNight.
the three later picks are not sure at all to make the team. we shall see in time.

After the Draft, QB Sammy McNight agrees to a 5 year, $155M deal including a $10M signing bonus and a base salary of $19M for this season. McNight is locked until 2034.

"We can't get done what we need to get done on this football team without Sammy McNight"
Cleveland Browns" General Manager talking to the media after QB McNight signed his huge contract, making him the highest paid player on the team.

The Browns sold 99,900 season tickets for the season
out of a capacity of 99,900.

Trade Offers
We reject of couple of offers for G Ben Vanderclute and DE Gene Woodson.

We only have 48 players signed so far...we need 5 more but we are ONLY $7,220,000 under the cap and that IS NOT enough to sign that many players. We have to find a way and will probably have to cut loose one or two stars that we have. There is no other choice.

In the FA pool we see that there is available WR Mel Schwartz (4 year vet, former 1st round pick) who was last year the All-League 1st team WR with 95 catches for 1311 yards !
He has been released by the Colts (he killed us in the Divisional playoffs) for salary cap reasons obviously and is now willing to play this year for just over $6M.
We will release newly acquired FA WR Shapiro and his $14M cap and grab Schwartz. That move -not a bad one- will help us gain a valuable $8M without losing too much on the field...

We then sign FA Safety Ronnie Butkus and resign WR Marty Ackerman both for the league's minimum for veteran players.

MEGA TRADE :
we send T Herb Dill (2nd highest paid player on team with over $16M salary) to San Diego against young T Floyd Stargell and young outstanding DE prospect Donnie Bailey.
This move gives us more cap room, one more player, and a good replacement at Tackle.
Herb will be sorely missed but we HAD to trade him.

We now sign FA G March Darden (potential to be a great one, he's young too.) and DT Tony Harper.
We are now set with all 53 players signed and $12M under the cap (2nd best in the NFL).

Conclusion : all this restructuring will result in almost certainly lower rankings in terms of cohesion and a bunch of guys signed only for the season. Which means basically that we will have to continue the process of getting rid of some expensive stars if we want to buil a team next year...Good luck Royal
that was tough for me, and I believe it'll be for you as well though I cleaned the house a little.

The Browns are "worth" $2,411,190,000 (1st NFL)
Stadium (75) 9th
Roster (100) 1st
Support (99) 1s
Economy (53) 12th

Pre-season :

Injury report
Seth Gordon, LB - Sprained Ankle, full strength in 3-5 Weeks
Brenden Swift, DT - Shoulder Tendonitis, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Antonio Dela Cruz, G - Bruised Sternum, full strength in 3-5 Weeks
Mack Darden, G - Turf Toe, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Darnell Starks, DT - Sprained Knee, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

We go 1-3 in the pre-season (our first losing preseason in year i believe) having lost our last 3. Fortunately for us, this is JUST preseason and doesn't count.
Now let the real season begin, with our starters getting their jobs back.

Roster Cohesion :

passing (73)
Off Line (93)
Deff front (91)
secondary (87)

regular season 2030 starts :

Week 1 Browns @ Cowboys (were 9-7 last year, NFC East Champions) - 2pt dog : L 10-49
the first play of the 2030 season is a 70 yard TD pass for the Cowboys... 7-0 Dallas with only 21 seconds played in the game.
the game is atrocious and we don't feel good about it. fortunately for us there is still 15 games left on the schedule but I have no idea how we will respond to that next week.

McNight 7/20 128 yards 1 TD 2 INTs.
Beyer 8 for -5 yards (yes...)
Scwhartz 5 catches for 69 yards
Sapp, Petine and Theopilakos each had an interception
Bailey had 2 sacks
Briggs had 10 tackles

Week 2 Browns (0-1) @ giants (1-0) - 4pt fav : W 24-7
We responded well to our season opener's nightmare. QB McNight played a very efficient game and all looks better all of a sudden.

McNight 13/24 for 252 yards 2 TDs 0 INT and another TD rushing
Beyer 19 for 58 yards
Henderson 6 catches for 60 yards 1 TD
Hutchins and Berosik each had 1 interception
Woodson had 3 sacks

Week 3 Browns (1-1) Vs Steelers (1-1) - 6pt fav : W 28-27
An extraodinary win !!!!
down 0-20 with only 13 minutes left to play in the game, McNight rallies his troups and throws 4 TD passes in one quarter to win the game with the 4th TD pass being thrown with NO TIME LEFT on the clock !!!
We're down 21-27 with 0 seconds on the game clock, last play of the game and McNight throws a perfect 17 yard TD pass to Mel Schwartz to win the ball game..AWESOME !

McNight 16/34 302 yards 4TDs 0INT
Beyer 16 for 73 yards
Schwartz 7 catches for 138 yards 2 TD what a game...
Hutchins had 2 interceptions and Robbins 1
Swift and Sapp both had 1 sack

Week 4 Browns (2-1) @ Bengals (0-3) - E : L 28-31
With 3 seconds left to play, the Bengals kick a FG that gives them the improbable win. This is disapointing since they were winless prior to this game and we droped it against a division rival.
for the 2nd straigh week, McNigh threw 4 TDs...but this time it wasn't enough

McNight 22/39 338 yards 4TDs 2INT
Beyer 14 for 20 yards
Henderson 8 catches for 161 yards 1 TD (we clearly have some great WRs)
Gordon had an interception and 10 tackles
Swift had 1 sack

Week 5 Browns (2-2) Vs Titans (4-0) - 3pt dog : W 41-35 (shootout time)
Here comes the first All-important game of the season for us. The Titans lead the AFC Central with 4 wins in 4 games and we MUST beat them to stay in the hunt.
The game is tight and ferocious but we pull the win and feel better!

McNight 26/45 376 yards 3TD 2INT
Beyer 26 for 145 yards 2 TDs (at last a great game !)
Lewinsky 6 catches for 93 yards 1 TD
Goldhammer had 1 interception returned 21 yards for a TD
Bailey had 2.5 sacks
Swift and Wiese each had 1 sack.

Week 6 Browns (3-2) Vs Jaguars (3-2) - 4pt fav : W 21-14
Another great performance by QB Sammy McNight who is so far the best QB in the league. That game against the Jags was another all important one for us after the shacky beginning of the year but things seem to settle a little and we go into the bye week with a 4th win (2nd in a row) and confident.

McNight 16/26 288 yards 3 TDs 0 INT
Beyer 22 for 100 yards
Lewinsky 5 catches for 107 yards
Woodson had 1.5 sacks, Sapp had one

Week 8 Bye Week
(the Baltimore Ravens won a game this WE against the Steelers by the score of 3-2 ! I thought I would mention it since it is the first time I see such a low scoring game in FOF)

Week 9 Browns (4-2) Vs Bengals (3-3) - 4pt dog : W 31-10
A fine overall performance for the Browns that avenges the last second loss we had against them ealier in the season.

McNight 17/36 209 yards 3 TDs 1 INT
Beyer 18 for 151 yards 1 TD (a great performance for the 3rd straight week for him)
in relief, Borders had 74 yards on 8 carries (9.2/c)
Welch 7 catches for 80 yards 2 TDs (and he IS a TE...)
theophilakos had an interception
Peterman, woodson, Bailey and Scarlett all had a sack;

Week 10 Browns (5-2) @ titans (6-1) - 5 pt dog : W 30-16
YES !
we swept the series with the Titans and take the AFC central lead at mid-season.
RB Casey Beyer injured his elbow early in the game and Nate Borders came in to be MVP of the day with a very fine performance.

McNight 20/38 240 yards 3 TDs 1INT
Borders 20 for 90 yards
Henderson 5 catches for 98 yards 1 TD
Woodson had 1 sack
Berosik had 10 tackles.

Mid-Season Report :

Injuries : we're lucky for the moment.
Casey Beyer, RB - Hyperextended Elbow, full strength in 0-2 Weeks

McNight : 52.6% comp (1st) 2185 yards (1st tied) 23 TDs (1st, on pace for throwing 46 TDs withc would be a league record) 7 INTs Rating : 98,7 (3rd)

Beyer : 131 attempts for 581 yards (12th) 4.4yards/c 3 TDs
Lewinsky : 32 catches for 586 yards (18,3/c) 8 TDs (a great first half for the rookie )
Henderson : 31 catches for 561 yards (18yards/c) 5 TDs
Briggs : 60 tackles
Woodson : 10.5 sacks (!)
Hutchins : 3 interceptions

Week 10 Browns (6-2) Vs Chiefs (4-4) - 4pt fav : L 16-23
Nate Borders starts at RB.
We never get into rythm and lose our first one at home. Along with the Titans win this WE, we also lose -for now- the AFC Central lead.

McNight 14/23 185yards 1TD 1INT
Borders 18 for 66 yards
Lewinsky 4 catches for 92 yards 1 TD
Gordon and Goldhammer each had an interception
Woodson had 1.5 sacks

Week 11 Browns (6-3) @ Jaguars (4-5) - 1pt fav : L 10-33
We drop a second in a row. This is not good but fortunately for us, Tenessee lost as well. We can't afford another loss now so we must regroup and put a winning streak now.

McNight 20/40 242 yards 1 TD 4 INTs (worst game of the year)
Beyer 7 for 38 yards
Schwartz 9 catches for 134 yards (at least HE had a great game...)
Sapp had 10 tackles

Week 12 Browns (6-4) @ Steelers (4-6) - 3pt fav : W 30-3
A fine performance by McNight put us back into contention...again. let's just hope this time we will build on that and carry on.

McNight 15/20 182 yards 2 TDs 0 INT
Borders 12 for 58 yards 1 TD
Henderson 6 catches for 67 yards 1 TD
Theophilakos and Berosik each had an interception
Woodson had 1 sack.

Casey Beyer, RB - Sprained Neck, full strength in 3-5 Weeks

Week 13 Browns (7-4) Vs Eagles (5-6) - 2 pt dog (?!) : W 34-3
A good game game and for the second consecutive week we scored 30+ pts and didn't allow a single TD. The defense is really stepping up now and if it can keep this pace, we sould be untouchable.
Plus, the offense can explode at any time with the talents we have.

McNight 12/30 213 yards 1 TD 0 INT
Borders 19 for 46 yards 1 TD
scwhartz 5 catches for 77 yards
theophilakos had 2 interceptions !
Swift had 1 sack

Week 14 Browns (8-4) Vs Ravens (4-8) - 5pt fav : W 42-25
This time the defense (mostly the secondary when facing some 3rd and long situations) had more troubles to stop the opposite offense than as usual but -as I expected- the offense stepped up and delivered behind Sammy's great performance (again).

McNight 15/29 282 yards 4 TDs 1INT
Borders 21 for 88 yards 2 TD
Henderson 8 catches for 202 yards 3 TDs (a career game !!!)
Hutchins had 3 interceptions (! this has to be a career game as well)
Sapp has 10 tackles and 4 assists
gordon had 2 sacks, Chapman, Woodson and Givens each had one.
theophilakos had 9 tackles.

Week 15 Browns (9-4) @ Seahawks (6-7 defending SuperBowl Champions) - 2pt fav : W 24-21 (OT)
Former Browns QB Dwight Benson has been traded from to Seattle by NY Giants during the Offseason after a nightmare 2029 season with them. He has started the first 12 games for the seahawks but got injured last week and he's out for the game against his former team.
The Seahawks come back with a late TD pass (less than a minute to play in the game) and send the game in overtime, fortunately for us, we won the toss and have the ball where Sammy McNight drives us 57 yards before letting Chandler kick the winning FG.

McNight 22/38 268 yards 3 TDs 2 INTs (also, 57 yards rushing.)
Borders 12 for 48 yards 1 TD
Henderson 7 catches for 104 yards
Hutchins had one interception
Woodson had 2 sacks.
Chapman and Wiese each had 1 sack

Week 16 Browns (10-4) Vs Colts (9-5) - 2pt dfav : W 30-0
Both team are atop their division and this next to last game on the regular season schedule is very very important because if we win that one, we would not only win the AFC Central title but also ensure ourselves a 1st round playoff bye.
We win that won easily with both the offense and the defense playing our best football of the year. at 11-4 we now have a 1st-round playoff bye but we will probably need to win again next week to have homefield advantage throughout the playoffs.

McNight 14/20 236 yards 2 TDs 0 INT (needs 1 more TD to tie Drew Bledsoe's 26 year old NFL record of 38 TD passes in a season.)

Borders 16 for 59 yards 1 TD
Welch 5 catches for 57 yards
theophilakos and Peterman each had 1 interception
Woodson and Bailey each had a sack.

Week 17 Browns (11-4) Vs Ravens (5-10) - 11pt fav : W 33-14
We finish the regular season strong winning 6 in a row. QB Sammy McNight ends up well the best year of his career throwing 2 more TD passes which gives him 39 on the season (new NFL record).

McNight 19/32 245 yards 2 TDs 0 INT
Borders 19 for 56 yards 1 TD
Henderson 4 catches for 64 yards 1 TD
Robbins had 2 interceptions
Woodson had 1 sack
Theophilakos had 12 tackles.

We finish the regular season 12-4, AFC Central Champions for the third year in a row, i'm proud of that but now that we have homefield advantage, we gotta go forward to our ultimate goal, the SuperBowl title.

Ben Vanderclute, G - Sprained Knee, full strength in 0-2 Weeks
Casey Beyer, RB - Sprained Neck, full strength in 2031

Regular Season Stats :

QB McNight 16/16 54,4% comp 4038 yards (2nd NFL) 39 TDs (1st NFL for the third year in a row and new NFL record) 15 INTs Rating : 95,1 (career high).

RB Casey Beyer 10/16 151 attempts for 653 yards 4.3/c 3 TDs
RB Nate Borders 6/16 159 attempts for 618 yards 3.8/c 6 TDs
WR Jim Henderson 16/16 65 catches for 1117 yards (5th NFL) 11 TDs (1st tied)
WR Stanley Lewinsky 16/16 51 catches for 973 yards (16th NFL) 11 TDs (1st tied)
WR Mel Schartz 0/16 53 catches 820 yards 3 TDs

LB O.J Briggs had 97 tackles
S Graham Theophilakos had 93 tackles
LB Gary Sapp had 52 assists (1st NFL)
DE Gene Woodson had 18,5 sacks ! (5th NFL - might be a Browns single season record)
CB Darryl Hutchins had 7 interceptions (tied 2nd NFL)
S Graham Theophilakos had 5 interceptions.

The defense holds and the offense produces, what else could we ask for ? QB McNight plays some great football as he has done all year long and shows why he will certainly be named an All League QB this year again. It seems as if he plays better and better when crunch time comes...this is interesting, and I like it.

McNight 24/32 251 yards 3 TDs 0 INT (Offensive Player of the week)
Borders 23 for 50 yards 1 TD
Schwartz 5 catches for 84 yards 1 TD

2030 SuperBowl

AFC Champions Cleveland Browns (14-4) Vs NFC Champions Green Bay Packers (14-4) -2pt fav : W 34-13
As it has been during the whole post-season, we have been huge on each side of the ball.
The first half of the game was quite disputed with a lot emotion but early in the 3rd quarter our defense put a wonderful pressure on their QB and forced him to throw into double coverage, the result is 2 interceptions for the defense early in the 2nd half that helped McNight trow a bunch of TD passes to put the game out of reach for the Packers.
The Cleveland Browns are SUPER BOWL CHAMPIONS for the 7th time -tied at 1st with the Patriots- !

McNight 17/29 283 yards 3 TDs 0 INT
(Offensive Player of the week, threw 10 TDs and 0 INT in post-season !)

Borders 21 for 114 yards
Lewinsky 6 catches for 79 yards 1 TD (what a rookie season he's had)
Peterman had an interception returned 36 yards for a TD (SUPER BOWL MVP)
Petine also had an interception
Bailey had 2 sacks and Berosik had 1

2030 Individual HONORS :

QB Sammy McNight : NFL Most Valuable Player - All League 1st team QB.
set career highs this year in Yards (4038), TDs (39 -league record) and Rating (95,1)

DE Gene Woodson : All League 2nd team DE.

Team Stats

Pts scored : 431 (1st NFL)
Pts outscored : 286 (4th NFL)

Offense
Passing : 254,4 yards per game (tied 1st NFL)
Rushing : 119,1 yards per game (18th NFL)

Defense
Passing : 212,3 yards per game (11th NFL)
Rushing : 107,3 yards per game (13th NFL)

Sammie McNight :

In 3 years as the starting QB of the Cleveland Browns, he has won 2 SuperBowls, been an All-League 1st team QB twice, has been NFL MVP, SuperBowl MVP and has led the league in TD passes in each of those 3 seasons -this year setting a new NFL record with 39 TDs-

I'm most proud of this team and of this young player who definitely has Hall of Fame potential.

THE CLEVELAND BROWNS ARE SUPER BOWL CHAMPIONS !!!
In my 3 years I led the team to the title twice and I believe the team is now in good shape in solid players to be able to continue to win.
We have a QB now. that was important. I believe also that rookie WR Stanley Legwinsky is gonna make some damages in the league pretty soon.

I send the file to Royal.

GO BROWNS in 2031 !

did you receive the file Royal ?

btw :
tell me if I'm wrong but am I able to pick TWO OFFENSIVE players as keepers ?

if so than I'll go with WR Stanley Lewinsky as my 2nd keeper (the 1st one being Sammie)

I didn't this morning when I read that you sent it, but I didn't know if you said it then sent it and I just missed it. Make sure you sent it to [email protected]

You may have 2 keepers, and they could both be QBs if you wanted them to be.

Does anyone have an updated keeper list? I'll want to double check before I begin tonight.

As my favorite SNL character, (Will Ferrel as George W.), likes to say:

Suck it...

I hadn't seen it yet around when I check last night, so if you sent it sometime yesterday, it's in limbo. If not then I'll look again tonight.

Since I don't have FOF at work, I will just post a quick note.

Seth Gordon retired at the beginning of 2031, will need to be replaced as a keeper.

I also had perhaps my best draft/off-season yet, you'll ifnd out about most of it later, but the one issue that has come up from it, is I drafted ANOTHER running back. Beyer and Borders are both subpar, though together they are ok and I just couldn't pass this kid up. We now have over 30 million dollars being paid to 3 running backs, though Beyer and Borders are both getting older and have not been receiving as much playing time of late as they might feel worthy of.

I feel that this is the same type of situation Darkiller was in with Benson vs McKnight but a little stickier as it is Beyer vs Borders vs New Stud. What does everyone think? I'm short at FB and WR as well so they will probably get some playing time there as well, but I'm leaning towards the rookie, I'll post a screen shot of him tonight.

TRO

1) Please send me the zip with Gordon's last year (so I can do his stats for the site).

2) Keepers are keepers and those two have been keepers for a long time - I say we just suck it up.

Better keep my man Casey happy

I know they are keepers, they won't be gotten rid of, I was just talking about playing time. Besides, I originally drafted Casey, I like him.

The team lost it's great FB of many years(forget his name, though he is a potential Team HOFer) and we have 2 great WRs, one new rookie potentially great WR. So I can play Beyer and Borders at FB and WR alot this year. I also drafted a tremendous TE this year though. Our offense is truly dangerous. 2 Go-to WRs, 2 Go-to TEs who can block as well, 3 headed monster at HB.

We are very good on the OL but could use some more depth. I'd like to get another top notch safety to go with the Greek. We have 2 top notch corners.

I think I'll end up playing alot of 3-4, my preferred scheme anyway, due to tremendous depth at LB while only having 2 really good DTs.

I'm just itching to get started tonight

Personnaly I have a soft spot for "The Bookstore", as he was Super Bowl MVP for my most recent Championship. But start the best player avialable (even if it is the new kid) our cohesion should be able to take the hit at this point.

Be careful you don't have a situation where Borders' and Beyer's contracts are up in the same year, since we only have one franchise tag and they may get a little grumpy!

how does he compare to my keeper 2nd year future superstar WR Stanley Legwinsky ?
