Village Challenge: I'm now 103 years old.
In other words, we're heading into the 2084 season.
Herbie the Love Ref gave us a score of 89. Not bad considering we only had an 81 for performance, I guess. 2084 Offseason Please welcome the following players for induction into the Hall of Fame this season: Penelope Davison Ed Bell Bruce Piniella Wade Shields Adrian Conti Please welcome the following player for induction into the Las Vegas team Hall of Fame this year: B.J. Sanders WR Howie Franklin decided to hang them up, meaning the only keeper up for FA this year is Hampton. That kinda makes the franchise tag a no-brainer. Also retiring were FB Ethan Craig and WR Stan Farmer. One guess where our ammy draft emphasis is gonna be. Fortunately we have around $126 mil to blow under the cap. After signing Hampton, we have $89 mil left. We should be able to sign our remaining FAs without TOO much difficulty. 2084 Free Agency Extensions DE Edgar Norton - 3 years, $57.61 mil Will free up $11 mil in cap room. T Brandon Rodham - 4 years, $30.32 mil Strictly a renegotiation, but will save a total of 30 mil over the four years. DE Shannon Norris - 3 years, $42.47 mil Locks the kid up as he's in his final year, and saves us around a mil this year. G Sammy Wells - 3 years, $17.06 mil Saves us $1.5 mil this year and locks him up. G Karl Lyon - 3 years, $18.06 mil Saves us a mil over the next two seasons and adds a third. Offers Joe Kreuger, C - 2 years, $9.97 mil Brett Rucci, TE - 3 years, $44.58 mil C.J. Greenberg, FB - 3 years, $41.47 mil Perry Babcock, DE* - 3 years, $57.32 mil Stephen Emmons, DT - 2 years, $62.30 mil * denotes 'foreign' FA. Fleming wanted too much. Or really sadistic parents.
2084 Free Agency Results Perry Babcock signed with Green Bay in Week 3, prompting us to tender an offer to DE Roman Williams of N'Awlins in the neighborhood of $55.58 million bones over the next three years. Greenberg, Emmons, and Rucci all re-signed with the mighty Raiders in Week 4, leaving just Kreuger and Williams undecided. Kreuger and Williams inked the sheets in Week Seven, giving us 44 active fellas and leaving us needing just a fullback, a third tailback, two wideouts, and a fourth corner. I'll save the remaining $33 mil under the cap for draft purposes and skip the rest of free agency. [This message has been edited by SackAttack (edited 10-30-2000).] |

seriously, Penelope is really in the HOF then?! i never knew that there were girls in FOF, how open minded of Jim! has anyone mentioned the instance of a girls name in the game ever before? i think that is worthy of it's own thread on the main board if you ask me!

Yeah, I think I recall seeing something to the effect way back in the FOF1 days that there were kickers with female names late in the 'game' (i.e. in the 21st/22nd century).

Sack, FWIW, when I did dynasty reports I did them in Notepad to prevent these kind of things from happening. Just a thought.

OP, thanks for the tip. I've also been unable to access the forum (until just now, obviously) for close to a day and a half.
Hopefully it'll work for good now. But, uh...do I need to keep going, do ya think? Josh |

If we do choose a new team, let's go with one that has a nice, non-harsh interface.
My money is on Jacksonville and St. Louis. We could even do an allocation draft with all sliders set at exactly average to make things a little more interesting. Whatcha think? Josh |

You (we?) could spice it up even more and make our own VC Interface. Thoughts?

I have a little bit of talent - more importantly I have some good drawing software (Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator). We can try to come up with something.
As a starting point though, I think Jacksonville would be a fine starting point. Maybe use the reallocation draft too. So Sack, you want to get us started? |

Shag,
I'd be delighted to. Couple of questions need answering first. 1) Allocation draft? Yes? No? 2) With renegotiation much more difficult on Wall Street in FOF3, will the no-haggle rule be remaining? 3) The keeper list could become insanely difficult to keep together with players much less willing to accept less than what they're asking for. If we keep the keepers, I would suggest limiting it to one or two per VC-er. Any house rules besides the outcome of those three as well, before I start? Wanna get things off on the right foot. Josh |

well, we have 4 of the 5:
sackattack shagvt cubsfan90210 me so why not? btw, original, what was your old username? sorry for not being able to work it out, and i really hope you're not named after an offspring song sackattack: 1) i'd say no allocation draft, but if the general opinion is yes, i have no problem 2) yes, kick out the no-haggle rule 3) definitely cut it down. 1 keeper at most. it was even a bother with the FOF2 keeper |

I guess I'm indifferent to the allocation draft. My preference is for yes, but it really doesn't make that much difference - these players won't be around after we each play a turn anyway.
Keeper of 1 per sounds good. Encourages using it for serious franchise players. We'll play on Wall Street so the haggling shouldn't really be that exploitable anyway. Prankster - why not? Welcome aboard! Is Jacksonville copacetic? |

I'm cool with the Jags... Lowering the number of keepers sounds good (I tried to only use 2 at a time anyway, so we didn't get our hands too tied up) to me as well.
I'm personally thinking that allocation draft would be OK. Would we want to set everything at average, though? The AI appears to be pretty difficult; maybe be should pick an area to emphasize, even if we don't make it too easy by maxing out QB. Maybe the O-lone? (Again, just a thought-I'm really not all that concerned either way...) ------------------ GO HOKIES!! BEAT MIAMI!!!

I used to be Blackhart. For now, I'm named after the song, but only until I can think of a good name. (no luck yet)
Shag: Regarding the art, I think something with silver and black would be nice, but I'm not sure how the interface even looks yet. I'll be purchasing the game in an hour or less. I say we just leave all the sliders in the middle. That way, we'll *theoretically* have an "average" team. This way if the first person goes 4-12, we'll know it's plain old bad coaching. Any thoughts on these ideas? Any thoughts on the username thing? ------------------ Secant, Tangent, Cosin, Sin, 3.14159!

ah, Blackhart! that was the direction i was leaning, but i didn't want to say, in case i was horrifically and embarrasingly wrong...
and i take it the "GOD DAMN!" is a statement regarding the fact that FOF2001 is no longer avaiable? username wise, i'm inclined to say, "ewww, not the offspring", but each to their own. if you're into that whole poppy punk thing, then seriously, you should check out dillinger 4. the gods of the genre these days. |

OK. Looks like the consensus is:
1) Jacksonville Jags 2) 1 keeper per player 3) allocation draft, sliders in the middle. 4) Wall Street. 5) No-haggle rule is gone. 6) 2 seasons per user. I'll go ahead and start a new thread in just a couple of minutes based on these assumptions. If I miss anything, we can add/change it later. Josh |
