Vote for the Best Hollywood Studio Draft!!! - RESULTS POSTED

Who had the best!!! They will be posted in a bit. You can see the whole thread here:

Build Your Own Hollywood Studio DRAFT!! (Game Thread) - Front Office Football Central

In order to vote, tell me your 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place votes. Each of those will get some points (3 or 2 or 1 respectively). I will total and then award the winner.

Please vote by Friday afternoon!

They were required to draft two each of Director, Producer, Lead Actor, Lead Actress, Supporting Actor, Supporting Actress and then two Intellectual Properties that had not been developed into a movie. Additionally, they were each required to have four Golden Age people on their studio roster, from the 1927-1960 era of Hollywood movies.

Which movie studio is the strongest?

I like the versatility of my studio.

I've got Hitchcock and Kurosawa at director. De Mille will help finance Kurosawa's epics, while Weinstein will help get word of mouth buzz for Hitchcock's thrillers.

I've got two bankable leading men in Harrison Ford and Cary Grant. My leading ladies are both defining screen presences of their generation (Grace Kelly, Julia Roberts). I've got considerable talent with my supporting cast (Morgan Freeman, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Kathy Bates all have Oscar wins while Drew Barrymore was one of the biggest child stars ever and has a successful transition to adult roles).

Ender's Game will make a good sci-fi franchise with De Mille's financial prowess, while The Satanic Verses is sure to garner lots of controversy which Weinstein will surely milk for all its worth.

larrymcg wins for promising to give me an Ender's Game movie, while Lathum loses for including George Lucas.

I'll see if I can come up with an actual 1-2-3 vote.

Lucas is going to be my cash cow based on Star Wars alone and Scorsese gives me a brilliant artistic director. In Apatow and Howard I get two of the hottest guys in Hollywood right now and they give me a lot of diversity in the movies they make

My lead actors are both timeless guys, with Peck doing a lot of classic type roles, wheras a young Eastwood was a bad ass and as he got older he begins to evolve into different role but his acting remains stellar.

Lead ladies Hayworth and Temple give me two classics that cover a couple of different genres.

I love my supporting Actors with Norton and Bloom. Norton for his role in Rounders as Worm alone, and Bloom has been second fiddle in LOTR and Pirates, two monster franchises and was also second fiddle to Bana in Troy, another solid movie.

For Supporting actresses Stone was great in movied that there was a really strong lead actor that could have outclassed her in movies like Quick and the Dead, Basic Instinct, and Casino. Rosemary Clooney is lesser known but her role in White Christmas is outstanding, plus she is George Clooneys aunt.

My IP's are a popular book series and the story of what the world would be like had Hitler won the war, how cool of a movie could that be?

Honorable mention to Izulde for his first 5 picks, arguably some of the strongest overall. But he lost me in the late rounds.

For my studio, I obviously did not go with the 'best' actor or actress on the board and instead decided to go with more of a themed role based around my IPs of the Dark Tower and Battletech. I wanted actors and actresses that had decent work in Westerns or Action movies along with directors and producers with experience in big budget films that pulled in alot of $$$. It made no sense to take Cary Grant or a Streep because it wouldn't have been a good fit for my studio. I'm sure people will go with the 'best of', but eh well... I had fun with my theme.

Plus, I'd so do a fivesome with my actresses..

1.9 Humphrey Bogart - Lead Actor Golden Age
2.2 Audrey Hepburn - Lead Actress Golden Age
3.9 Francis Ford Coppola - Producer
4.2 Ridley Scott - Director
5.9 Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time Series - Intellectual Property
6.2 Robin Williams - Lead Actor
7.9 Brigitte Bardot, Lead Actress Golden Age
8.2 Jackie Chan - Supporting Actor
9.9 Heath Ledger - Supporting Actor
10.2 D.W. Griffith - Director Golden Age
11.9 Rosario Dawson - Supporting Actress
12.2 Hayao Miyazaki - Producer
13.9 Penelope Cruz - Supporting Actress
14.2 The Beautiful Girl and the History Class - Intellectual Property

Our original intent was to create a strong studio able to produce epic blockbusters and artsy, powerful, critically acclaimed dramas. But then, in a fever-induced stupor we made the foolish Robin Williams lead actor pick and then we switched to an internationalist route, trying to bring in diversity and the ability to do animation (Miyazaki) and martial arts (Chan).

So what we're left with is arguably the most powerful pairing of leads of any studio in Bogart and Audrey Hepburn, a visionary producer and pair of directors in Coppola, Scott and Griffith, a fantastic supporting actor in Ledger, and a goldmine IP in the WoT series. We also have a smoking hot French sexpot in Bardot.

I think the strength in this studio is in its versatility. We can create the blockbusters and small, successful dramas we originally set out to do. But we could also do some interesting comedies with Williams and Chan and try our hand at martial arts. Miyazaki lets us get in animation, with any number of our actors/actresses able to do solid to excellent voicework.

4.8 Samuel L. Jackson, Lead Actor
5.3 Charlton Heston, Lead Actor, Golden Age

11.3 Sergio Leone, Director
12.8 Helen Mirren, Supporting Actress
13.3 Vanessa Redgrave, Supporting Actress
14.8 1776, IP

In the tradition of the 'war movie', I bring to you 21st Century Jedi Artists LLC. With Ford, Jackson, Capra and Leone, epic is one word that comes to mind. All four know how to give an audience a memorable experience that people will talk about for years after.

With All-Star casting, lead by proven veteran actors Samuel L Jackson and Charlton Heston. Vivien Leigh and Keira Knightly are no strangers to box office smashes either and can hold their own when pared with some of Hollywoods biggest names.

Of course, no film is complete without a supporting cast and that's where the acting prowess of Ben Johnson, Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren and Vanessa Redgrave come in. All have the pedigree that could hold their own as leading actors and can complement any project that they would be involved in.

Halo would be the first of two films to come out of 21st Century Jedi Artists. Staring Charlton Heston as Admiral Jacob Keyes. Samuel L. Jackson as Sgt. Avery Johnson, Bruce Willis as Spartan John-117, Keira Knightley as AI Cortana, Helen Mirren as Dr. Catherine Halsey, Ben Johnson as Captain James Cutter, Vanessa Redgrave as Miranda Keyes, and Vivien Leigh as Flight Officer Captain Carol Rawley, pilot of Pelican drop ship Echo 419.

From the minds of such classics as How the West Was Won, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, It's a Wonderful Life, and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, they give you HALO. See, this epic span over strange worlds and even stranger aliens. See, classic space battles that lead the characters on one nail biting adventure after another. See, one of the last hopes for human survival fight hordes of an advanced alien civilization and a mysterious unknown enemy that presents itself at the worst possible time. Experience the universe of Halo...Will humanity survive?

Of course the caveat is to age each actor appropriately for their character.

Lots of really good picks. I consistently marked down if a famous leading actor or actress ended up in the support category, and whom I consider to be a weak person at that spot. Other than that, a few good IP, as well as picking unknowns or stupids caused the separation.

Izulde, for what it's worth, you could have won if you had picked a better IP, producer and didn't go stupid on your last pick.

Ruddy Rhenish Pictures had no grand design except bring in the best talent at every position. We made sure to stick to supporting players in those roles. And wanted quality story tellers. We got that in our two directors Charlie Chaplin and Billy Wilder have given so many quality films, surely that would continue for our studio. Producing our films are two golden age legends. Mayer basically created the star system that ran Hollywood for years. and the Wonder Kid Thalberg created so many hits in a short time they named the special producer's award that the Academy Awards gives out after him.

Our stable of actors and actresses are versatile and extraordinary. Our Leads of Kathrine Hepburn, Tom Hanks, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Dustin Hoffman have stong performances and award after award littering their paths. This group is not afraid of controversial roles including Lenny Bruce and Andrew Beckett among others. Even our supporting players have shown themselves to be quality. Sigourney Weaver is constantly surprising with her roles, even out acting those she shares the screen with. Cate Blanchett is so versatile she can play both women and men as seen by her riveting performance as Bob Dylan. The men are just as capable. Last round pick Alec Guinness recieved accolades for roles in both Little Dorrit as well as his role of Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars. Finally Robert Duvall who would be an assett if he only was just Tom Hagen from the Godfather. We see him excelling even in his To Kill a Mockingbird role.
As for our Intellectual Properties we were fortunate to come to terms with both Elie Weisel's masterpiece Night, and the famed Catcher in the Rye. Both should become seminal films moving Ruddy Rhenish pictures to the forefront.

Winter Wolf Studios is about making good films that will definitely see awards on oscar night. Comedies, Musicals, Animated Films, Biting Satires, Intellectual Films, Fantasies, and Romantic Comedies. Our films will feature great actors playing great characters with their complicated relationships.

The Production team will be able to produce a variety of great films. Gene Kelly will direct and choreograph various musical projects. Animation wizard John Lasseter will help continue to produce his Pixar-style works for the studio (which is complete with proven great voice actors) as well as add animated characters and sequences to our live action works. Rob Reiner has produced many great fantasies, comedies, and romantic comedies. Oscar, Golden Globe, and Emmy Winner Mike Nichols (who also had 5 Oscar and GG nominations) has consistently proven that he makes great films about people, their relationships, and the extreme circumstances they find themselves in. A master of dark comedy.

The acting talent is top-notch featuring strong handsome leading men in James Stewart and George Clooney that can pull off both comedy and drama. Both have earnestness as well as sex appeal. Their counterparts of Julie Andrews and Judy Garland both have an innocence and feistiness as well as golden voices. Both have made careers in memorable family films and later expanded to more serious and deep works.

The supporting cast is quirky, versatile, and energetic and will provide a lot of huge assortment of characters needed. Angela Lansbury will provide excellent comic chops and a great singing voice (which won her 5 Tonys and acclaim on stage, screen, voice acting, and TV). Anne Hathaway became a darling of Disney films with her girl next door look and quirkiness. Johnny Depp has shown to be the biggest chameleon in Hollywood ever and will be used by this studio in a variety of wonderful characters oftentimes several in the same film. Michael Caine (winner of 2 oscars and nominated for 4 others) brings an intensity and respectability to everything he does be it scoundrel, or father-figure, not to mention almost 150 credits to his name.

WWS’ incredible musical talent will be focused in the amazing voices of Julie Andrews, Judy Garland, and Angela Landsbury. With talent like that a musical director the likes of Gene Kelly is a huge asset as we tackle the IPs of one of the strongest minds of musicals Stephen Sondheim. Sondheim’s genius concentrates on driving the story through his characters’ songs rather than letting them be fluff. His biggest (Into the Woods) will be a creative foray into mixing live action with animated sequences care of Pixar’s John Lasseter. It is the tale of various well-known fantasy characters who wish for their innermost dreams and are granted everything they’ve always wanted and then to have it all go terribly wrong as they have to live with the unfortunate consequences of their actions. Andrews as Cinderella, Clooney as the Prince, Hathaway as Little Red Riding Hood, Landsbury as The Baker’s Wife, Stewart as The Baker, Caine as the Narrator/Mysterious Man, and Depp as The Wolf and the Pigs. And in an ironic twist, Judy Garland will play the Witch. The other Sondheim works are Company, a story of Bobby, a player who sleeps around, but observes his married friends around him and their relationships as they look at his life. Both funny and poignant, perfect for the likes of Nichols and Reiner, with Kelly’s musical and choreography help. Assassins is a dark comedy about…well, Assassins of history the likes of John Hinckley, John Wilkes Booth, Lee Harvey Oswald, and Squeaky Fromm showing their deadly characters as they sing about what made them famous. This dark tale is perfect for an animated Lasseter piece.

The Dirk Gently series is a modern comedy fantasy series penned by Douglas Adams after his Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy days about an old college friend whose unusual talent is finding the interconnectedness of all things. The series included the books Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, Long Dark Teatime of the Soul, and the unfinished Salmon of Doubt. The various characters all seem to have a problem. Computer programmer Richard (James Stewart) has a problem. He has a couch eternally stuck on the steps of his entryway and must watch a boring lecture while his old college professor does impossible magic tricks. Gordon Way (George Clooney) has a problem. He has been shot with a double-barreled shotgun in the chest and now wanders as a ghost. Samuel Taylor Coleridge (Michael Caine) has a problem. He cannot think of an ending for his new poem, Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner. The Electric Monk (Johnny Depp) has a problem. He has lost his horse. They all somehow are tied together and only Detective Dirk Gently (also Depp) can see how.

Honarable Mention to Junkhead Productions, CEO DrAFTjunkie

I like Draftjunkie's studio right away but took a step back in the later rounds.

Greyroo has a lot of star power but as far as actual performance I feel the 4 above were stronger.

Basically on voted on diverse studios if I thought you werent diverse enough to adapt to different situations you were graded lower on my list.

I should mention Jedi as well because I thought you did a nice job as well. I just dont like how your pieces fit the puzzle for some reason.

My approach was to not only select proven money makers and oscar winners, but, solid craftsmen/women that know how to put together a movie from start to finish that audiences will enjoy.

Good job by all. Really difficult draft. there are really only a few good well rounded picks. most of the rest are tastes and preferences. i think jbergey's pick of gary cooper was the best pick in the last 3 rounds, fact it was the last round makes all the better

Of course I personally like my own studio the best, but I don't believe in voting for yourself in drafts.

I think everybody had some pretty dang good and strong picks. There's never going to be the "perfect" studio because people's tastes are different.

I looked at the actors and behind the scenes talent, and how they fit in with the IPs. I really liked the ones that tied together well and didn't have acting talent that couldn't in some way fulfill their IPs, because lets be honest, if you pick IPs and your stars, those IPs are just going to languish or fail if you don't put the top talent in/behind them.

Oh yeah and I absolutely love the Dirk Gently series, so that got CrimsonFox bonus points.

As a voter, having two per category makes the whole ranking them thing much harder. Okay, granted, I tend to make this stuff more complicated than it probably ought to be whenever I vote on one of these things but still ... I just had something with the #1 person in a category but they paired them with the #18 person in a category and sunk themselves on that category as a whole.

Since I usually do these things based on ordinals that kind of stuff just kills me. Even an average pick would have probably won them that category with me.

You got my all time favorite director in Billy Wilder and a perfect leading man (Hanks) for his films. Great IP's and supporting talent. I think the only misstep is Michelle Pfeiffer.

2. Prestige Worldwide Entertainment, CEO jbergey22

The Welles-Spielberg combo is pretty powerful. The leading talent is quite strong. Cooper is a great late find but an odd choice for Supporting.

3. Winter Wolf Studios, CEO CrimsonFox

You did a good job with the overall concept. The IP's have nic synergy with your talent, and the directors match up with your stars quite well (I can really see Clooney in a classic Nichols film).

I"m not seeing as much love for greyroofoo's studio as we should. I thought the IP was weak, but look at that opening

Dreamtrout Pictures, CEO Greyroofoo

1.2 Walt Disney, Producer, Golden Age
2.9 Marilyn Monroe, Lead Actress, Golden Age
3.2 Marlon Brando, Lead Actor
4.9 Elizabeth Taylor, Lead Actress, Golden Age
5.2.Arnold Schwarzenegger, Lead Actor
6.9 Woody Allen, Director
7.2 World of Warcraft, IP
8.9 Henry Fonda, Supporting Actor, Golden Age
9.2 Jennifer Aniston, Supporting Actress
10.9 Tim Burton, Director
11.2 Kathleen Kennedy, Producer
12.9 Natalie Portman, Supporting Actress
13.2 X-Com series, IP
14.9 Sir Laurence Olivier, Supporting Actor

Disney, Monroe and Brando are a huge lineup right there. Woody and Burton make great director picks I think, you throw in Olivier and Fonda as supporting actors, wow. Aniston and the IP were fails, I think, but still an amazing lineup.

1. Larrymcg - Such amazing talent here that I just can't wait to see paired up. Ford, Freeman and Hoffman BELONG in Hitchcock films! Grant, Kelly, and DeMille working with the Weinsteins! The Satanic Verses is an awesome IP (I just wouldn't want to be on set or in your studio offices during filming or...ever. It might blow up.) Enders Games is terrific as well. I would have taken it 2 turns earlier but it didn't fit my studio really.

2. ntndeacon - Overall I think one of the strongest casts. Not a turd in the lot. Some good directors. Curious how they'd work here. Good IPs too.

3. jbergey - Spielberg/Wells perfect combo. DeNiro/Bergman/Newman/Moore a very intense cast. (Bergman is awesome). IPs a little weak and Berry seems a throwaway but overall good.

This was definitely a tough one, and there weren't any bad studios. I mostly relied on my gut "wow" factor, and these three three stood out.

1. Crimson Fox -- I love Mike Nichols in the 10th and Michael Caine in the 12th.
2. greyroofoo -- What put me over the top was Laurence Olivier at the end of the 14th and a "money-in-the-bank" director in Tim Burton in the 10th on top of a legendary first 6 picks.
3. larrymcg421 -- very solid from top to bottom, no real "steals" and probably slightly lower marks due to my personal tastes.
