buy PC in the states?

Yes, it's everyone's favorite topic: computer prices!

I live in Hungary, but with my new job I'm visiting the states often. The question is: is it worth it to buy a computer in the states, lug it back home on the plane, and deal with the converter.

Let's take 2 examples of what I can get here and you guys tell me how much cheaper I could get it in the States without going to too much trouble (i.e. running into the local Best Buy and grabbing something similar off the shelves).

1. Computer and 19" monitor -- NTTPACK1 Pent Dual core E2200 2.2 GHz, 2 GB RAM, 250 GB HDD, DVD writer (no listing of the card). Monitor is Fujisu-Siemens L19W LCD 800:1, 300 cd/m3, 5 ms (no idea what that means, is that the refresh rate?). Price: about $500. How much would you pay?

2. Just a computer -- IMPULSE426 Phenom triple core 8450 2.1 GHz, ATI Radeon HD3650 VGA, 2 GB ram, 400 GB hdd, Vista. Price: about $600.

The first one is probably all I need, and I could use a nice flat screen.

Most power supplies are 120V-240V compatible. It is usually a switch on the power supply that you have to change. So you probably won't need a converter.

Those prices are about the same as what you'd pay over here. Factor in the hassle of shipping it back to Hungary (ask me about my fun getting my desktop to Italy), and I'd say pick it up back at home.

That was my guess as well, but you should hear the international crowd here go on and on about how you should only by electronics in the States.
