Setting up Generic Text Printer

I was contemplating a TCY dynasty and set up a Generic Text Printer following the setup wizard in WinXP so I could have the files to mull over and format to put on fofc.

However, when I went to 'print' to a file, there is no destination for the file to go so I can open it. It doesn't show me any 'save as' or 'save to' message box.

Do I need a special driver, or is this another XP wonder, or am I just a bigger idiot than at first thought.

Thanks.

In the printer setup (Control Panel>Printers), do you have the Port selected as FILE for your Generic/Text Only printer?

Yes, I have file selected, but it has no destination to send the file to, and I don't see how to make a destination folder or appoint a folder to go to.
