(FM2009) Sports Interactive releases 20 Minute video on FM2009

Well, no formal announcement, but they've released a 20 minute video in two parts via YouTube. Watching now.

(supposedly some new features are announced in the video)

Part 1:
YouTube - Football Manager 2009 & FMH2009 Announcement - Part 1

Part 2:
YouTube - Football Manager 2009 & FMH2009 announcement - Part 2

Doesn't sound like any new leagues, or new divisions. Doesn't look like USL will be involved

First version I bought was 2006 with the intentions of buying every other year which means I bought 2008 and would be skipping 2009. Yeah, I don't think so. The every other year plan just went out the window. Damn the game looks sweet

There's a joke somewhere around here about Football Manager being as addictive as crack, without the chance.. you know.. of your heart exploding and all that

Wow. Cool stuff. This may blow my stance on buying sports games two years in a row again. 3D matches and press conferences are nice adds. And SirFozzie can finally start the game as a female manager.

one downer. You probably will need a DVD drive in your computer, SI are quoted as saying that last year's game basically took up the whole CD, so with a 3d Match Engine on top, they're 95% sure it will be released on DVD-Rom only (other then download)

...Wow.

So much for my "buy once every 2 releases" promise.

And absolutely getting the 'real' version. Getting burned once with WWSM was enough.

The assistant manager feedback and the 3D match engine make this a must purchase for me.

I've been playing FM08 a bunch recently but I always get frustrated because I can only guess at what I'm doing wrong when my team plays like crap.

I don't think you can rule out the USL quite yet. I doubt Miles would have mentioned in the video: "Oh yeah, we know have the USL license".

But I think you can rule out the custom league feature that MV talked about awhile ago.

I've thought of doing this but haven't been able to justify the difference in price. Though it would be nice knowing virtually any mods would work without issue and getting patches from mirrors would also be much quicker.

So I am curious are preorders already available? And do you have a link so I can at least make a more informed decision?

I got the feeling that they hadn't added any new divisions or leagues from what they said in Part 2, where they said "We've gone over all our leagues and divisions from previous versions and updated their financial sections, etcetera"

Footballmanager.net has a link to order through English retailer PLAY, for 29.99 pounds, with 4-6 day shipping to the US for another 4.95 pounds. Call it $56-60.

I'm not sure it takes debit cards, it didn't allow it to go through for me.

The 3D match-engine is nice but I am more excited by the news of a completely rewritten financial/transfer system and the match engine being tweaked after a year of FM Live beta-testing. Add one more game onto the list of way too many good games coming this fall.

This was a LOT more work than you might think - thats a heck of a lot of text which had to be made non-gender specific and localised for various languages.

*thinks about Pummelling Marc for quoting Cringer's line about me (bloody Dynamo fan)*

*decides not to.. it may delay FM's release*

So Marc.. um.. can you do us fellow Americans a favor? Can you arrange for FOFC to get the games on release day so we don't have to wait a week by going through PLAY?

Won't we be able to download a version on release day? I could care less about a boxed copy, I just want the game on release day.

I'm assuming that direct2drive will have it again on release? That is who I bought it from last year I think.

Thanks for the info, pretty much like last year. It's knowing I'm paying about twice what WWSM goes for that makes me cringe a little. $40 I'd pull the trigger. $60, I just don't know, maybe ? I will check it out though and between now and the end of Oct I think I'll see if any better offers come up.

I can pretend its expensive, and I can pretend I get too angry, but I know 60 bucks on FM is 60 bucks I'd spend on drinking on an average night so yeah.... its a sale.

Marc, bluntly, I would assume you guys do best when the funds go direct through SI rather than through a retail outlet - what is the best approach for you guys?

Production runs are always done on tight schedules - the more lag the more chance of a game being pirated before release (which can seriously affect sales for obvious reasons) ... hence we generally don't get physical copies much before they're in the shops at all.

Normally I try and scrounge a copy of the game from every territory possible - the Korean and Japanese ones are normally the coolest imho ..

(Korea for instance released CM4 in a shiny metal box and gave away free player badges )
