Interesting tidbit in the movie Memento (Spoiler-esque)
I re-watched this movie a day or two ago, and I noticed a cool little thing that I had not noticed in my first ump-teen times watching it. I tried digging up the old threads to see if anyone else had mentioned it, but could only find a small thread and the discussion of the writer/audience covenant.
This is sort of a spoiler, so don't read on if you haven't watched the movie and want to. I think we're well past the point of spoiling things for this movie though, so I'm not going to go to great lengths to hide it. Just stop reading right now. Near the end of the movie, when Leonard finishes telling the story of Sammy Jankis over the phone, there is a clip of 'Sammy' sitting in a mental institution. At the very end, a doctor walks in front of him, and the clip ends about a half a second after the doctor passes Sammy. However, when the doctor passes, for that brief instant it is Leonard sitting in the chair, not Sammy. I thought it was pretty cool, and didn't know anyone I could possibly explain this to who would care, so I thought I'd post it here.

How many times had you seen the movie before you noticed this? I caught it the first time.

I finally figured out who Keyser Soze was after countless years of watching the same film over and over again.

Sheesh. This escalated quickly.
You guys do realize that I knew that Leonard/Sammy are the same person, just that the clip happens BEFORE it is spelled out to you? Just curious...please continue to rake me across the coals, I definitely deserve it

If you watch the movie Rudy, in the scene where Rudy is sitting on the bench during the last game, another player walks past him and the clip ends about a split second later. However, during that split-second you will notice that It's Ron Powlus on the bench.

I often think that little film tricks like this (and the several similar clues in Fight Club) are probably much cooler in the theater, when it's probably a genuine "wtf, did I just see that" moment. At home, on DVD, you just rewind and go "yeah, ok, I guess that gives that away".

In all honesty, I've wondered about the split second Sammy/Leonard bit. Does it mean Leonard made Sammy up or does it mean Leonard was trying to envision being Sammy? The flashback started when Lenny told Leonard that Sammy was made up.
Lenny was a bastard and I wouldn't put it past him to make something up. He wasn't above putting Leonard on throughout the movie, so I find it hard to believe Lenny is telling the truth here.
