KFC wants to help patch the nation's potholes

Asphalt with that? -- chicagotribune.com

Seeing KFC logos on pothole patches would be awesome.

KFC wants to help patch the nation's potholes

Tribune staff report
10:44 AM CDT, March 27, 2009
KFC has sent off a letter to the nation's mayors, offering to patch their potholes for free. Well, the company will leave behind a stenciled brand on the patch informing people the road has been "Re-Freshed by KFC."

"In honor of our "Fresh Tastes Best" campaign, we want to come and Re-"Fresh" your roads!" KFC president Roger Eaton says in the letter. "Every patched pothole comes with the Colonel's very own stamp of approval."

The company estimated that U.S. roads are plagued with more than 350 million potholes. "That's one mini-canyon for every man, woman and child in America."

KFC has already tried out its campaign to stamp out potholes in its hometown of Louisville, Ky., earning a testimonial from Louisville's Mayor Jerry Abramson who noted that "finding funding for needed road repairs is a continuing challenge." The company will choose four other cities.

The magazine Advertising Age reports that the KFC campaign appears to be part of a growing effort by companies to build goodwill. It notes that this past holiday season, Charmin provided a public restroom in Times Square for the third year running. The company has also developed an application for iPhone and BlackBerry that helps consumers find toilets when the need arises. Samsung has installed electrical charging stations in many major airports to help travelers stay connected while in limbo.

As if their huge ad on the ground near Area 51 wasn't enough... but I'm all for this.

More like "what was that red and white blur we just drove over?". But hey, if they want to fix potholes, more power to them.

That's an interesting idea. I'd be up for anything that would fix the roads in this city.

This is actually making me crave some KFC about now...although that's probably a bad idea since I just started counting calories the other day,

I don't really like fast food anything these days, but for fried chicken, I'd rank it as Popeye's, followed by Chicken Delight, and then KFC. But Popeye's isn't near me, so I only have it if I go to the U.S. and maybe that raises its value to me.

Popeye's is good stuff, too, but I would prefer that only if I were in the mood for spicy chicken.

My problem with KFC is that I like crispy chicken, and every time I got it from KFC, the skin had some weird kinda of soggy texture, or wasn't as crispy as I liked.

I'm waiting for cities/states/governments to start selling naming rights for bridges, tunnels, airports, ect.

Seems like when I go, they run out of extra crispy a lot -- maybe they're sticking you with original recipe and not asking?

Yeah that could be. I started noticing the non-crispiness a long time ago and because of that I rarely go to KFC now (once a year at most). Maybe the few times I've gone have been original recipe then.

Why does KFC come in a bucket?

So you have something to throw up in afterwards.

I actually like KFC.

It makes sense to me. You fill the holes like you would your mashed potato pond. Then you let everyone around it, see it. In the end, I'm paying for it.
