Airborne Penguins - Do they really fly??
I planned to start one of these quite awhile back... but just forgot.
Airborne Penguins (8715) Country: USA Region: Kentucky Arena: Mr. T Stadium (80,000) Series: II.2 (599) Supporter Club: 2921 Standings Team Played Goals Points 1. arabia 6 22 - 6 15 2. Tombstone Titans 6 18 - 5 13 3. Tallahassee Kiasu 6 11 - 15 12 4. Airborne Penguins 6 12 - 12 9 5. Mean Losers FC 6 4 - 5 7 6. CrazyCoCo 6 10 - 14 6 7. Minnesota Kicks 6 6 - 15 4 8. The Wolfpack 6 6 - 17 2 Story Until Now The Airborne Penguins were founded on January 30, 2002 (three weeks into season 15). IV.61 was the first league we contended in. The squad was 2-1 under the previous management, but was booted from the cup and had a critical loss to the team that would win the series(Llamas - III.16). We went 10-1 in the remaining matches. This included a win against Llamas. Season 16 saw another early exist from the cup in round 3. However, the Penguins enjoyed great success in IV.61 play. The team went undefeated (1 draw) for the season, and secured autopromotion. However, little improvement was made throughout the entire season. Airborne was promoted to III.6 for season 17. This was a season of ups and downs, but also a time when the team began to quickly improve. Two solid 17 year old defenders were pulled in consecutive weeks early in the season. This made the team far more wealthy than ever before, and touched off a series of improvements that made the team what it is today. Once again, the Penguins were booted in round 3 of the cup. Also, we faced something we had never gone through before: a losing streak. The Penguins lost consecutive games for the first time ever, three in total. The first two were major upsets in which the Penguins were the better statistical team. The final loss came against Lineboys United, who terrorized the series that season. However, the Penguins bounced back the next week and handed Lineboys their only loss of the season. After the losing streak, the team went on a 20 game undefeated streak in league play. Season 18 once again saw Penguin dominance. The team made it to round 5 in the cup, but that it is still pretty disappointing. However, only one loss was suffered in league play. The series title and autopromotion were secured once again. We were then shipped to our current home II.2. This season has seen a couple big 4-0 wins for the Penguins. However, another 3 game losing streak was suffered as well. This puts the team at 3-3 so far this season, with another round 5 cup ousting. Last edited by TargetPractice6 : 05-18-2003 at 04:33 AM. |

Current Thoughts
No really concerns, but just thoughts in general. Short Term *Standings: I am currently in 4th, which isn't bad for my first season in II. However, my goal is to end up 3rd. I have two matches in a row coming up against the last place team, so I might be able to make up some ground. *Form: Form dropped a bit this week, but it still remains very good. Only 1 start is below passable form. *Last week I hit 45 stars, which was my goal for this season. It was also my best match ever according to supporter stats. Longer Term *This should be Andrew Cooper's last season. He has been with us since season 15, and will be missed. Ward Hardman will be taking his place. Ward is a young superstar, and would be starting now if it wasn't for his low stamina. Also, it is kind of sad that Ward was pulled in the wrong season to be on the U20 team. We will only be 19 by the time the next cup rolls around (but he will be world class, which isn't much worse than the players actually on the team). *Aging keeper, Maheshwar Venkataram, will most likely be sold with Cooper at the end of the season. We hope to buy a brilliant keeper in replacement. Any left over cash will guy to buying a new trainee. I would like to buy a young outstanding PM, with decent winger. That way I could start him as a winger towards the middle next season and play him at IM during friendlies to get full training. *Money: I really should be saving up for my off season spendings. It is tempting to look at players to fill a couple holes I have though. In particular, I have periodically looked for someone to replace Per Einarsson, who is an excellent scorer but still starts. Economy Update
I made about $200k this week, mostly from a solid defender pulled from my youth squad last week. After my losing streak, my newly-expanded 80k arena only saw a turnout of 55k, which was disappointing from an economic standpoint. I've also hired 2 economists who are making be a whopping $5k. The youth pull will sell, but not for much. Might make a good trainee for a newer team. Mike Briscoe 69 000 US$, 17 years, passable form Has disastrous experience and poor leadership abilities Stamina: weak Keeper: disastrous Playmaking: inadequate Passing: passable Winger: weak Defending: weak Scoring: poor Set Pieces: poor Next Match at The Wolfpack The Wolfpack is currently in last in II.2. The owner is a brother of GM-Jorge and slashers, but isn't nearly as active as his siblings. He gets a respectable midfield but not much else. I'm thinking I'll probably run with a winger towards the middle for the first time this season. I've been hesitating to use Ward Hardman for this role due to his stamina. Also, it puts im at an added chance for injury, which is bad for a player of his age and skill. Form is pretty good overall, although the team most certianly won't get the 45 stars it got last week. Management expects nothing but a win this week. The Penguins could possibly move into third int he series this week if Tallahassee Kiasu loses to CrazyCoCo this week, but that is very unlikely. Match - Week 19.07
Final Score The Wolfpack - 1 Airborne Penguins - 1 Ratings The Wolfpack (89 NSI, 42 stars) Midfield: supernatural Right Side Defence: solid Central Defence: excellent Left Side Defence: outstanding Right Side Attack: excellent Central Attack: solid Left Side Attack: solid Airborne Penguins (99 NSI, 44.5 stars) Midfield: magnificent Right Side Defence: brilliant Central Defence: brilliant Left Side Defence: magnificent Right Side Attack: passable Central Attack: brilliant Left Side Attack: magnificent Thoughts Well, this match was a bit of a disappointment. I didn't lose, but I really thought I would win. Afterall, we DID play the last place team. Anyway, we used made a small lineup change for this match. Instead of playing both wingers offensevily, as has been the case all season, Ward Hardman got his second league start as a winger towards the middle. Baustista and Ryan Juse (who is played as an offensive inner midfielder), were placed on the left side to take advantage of The Wolfpack's solid right side defense. It's disappointing that our magnificent attack that arose from this didn't score a single goal. Our single goal game from the right side oddly enough, and was finished off by Per Einarsson. This draw is a bit tough to swallow, but we should be able to win next week when The Wolpack comes to our place. The Penguins remain fourth in II.2 after tonight's match. arabia and Tomstone Titans win and pull further ahead of the Penguins. However, our goal is third and as luck may have it CrazyCoCo beat Tallahassee Kiasu. This pulls the Penguins wo within 2 point of the third place Kiasu. It also leaves them only a point ahead of CrazyCoCo. |

Hey TP, its tough to sympathize with you on this large of a scale, but with me, I have a team in my division that must train d or keeper and has a wretched midfield. The only problem, I can't score on them. So we usually tie 0-0.
Ties are like kissing your sister, only people in kentucky like them...

Lexington has about 300,000 people I think. So I'm not one of those mountain hicks that it's fun to joke about (you know... the kind that pronounce a word with two syllables even though it only has one, like "hill").

Honestly, I do symapthize. Most of us (at least those of us in division V) have at least the bottom team, maybe another team or two to just whip up on. Once you get high enough, you don't get that luxury any more; everyone is out for blood.
The player acquisition and training and cup parts of your team are completely different from ours...there is an unlimited supply of players who can help us, and the cup is desperately needed financial influx. But the actual competition in-series is just the same (with different talent levels of course). For you, it's a struggle to stay promoted; I'm going through much the same thing with my team at the bottom of DV. And I take offense to that Kentucky crack...I swear, the South, east, and west parts of the state give the rest of us a bad name. |

Great! I hadn't seen that you you had started a dynasty up TP. It's really interesting to see how a team at a higher level works.
Is Huey Poe your semi-clown or what? Thanks again for the start of a great dynasty! P.S. I added you to the FOFC Fed. |

Thanks guys
Vex, Huey Poe is just a guy who was originally on my team. That's the only reason I keep him around... His wage is only $500 though. So it's not a big deal money-wise to keep him around. |

Friendly - Week 19.07
Well I really dont care about friendlies... at all. THe only reason I even schedule one every week is for training purposes. So I really only scan my match report to make sure nobody was injured. Before they added the 25 challenge limit I was making a decent profit off of friendlies though. I would challenge about 50 teams in the top series from around the world. I got 5 figure attendance at friendlies a few times using this method. This week I got a 3 week injury to my back-up forward. No big deal, he's only solid. If I get a starter hurt I'll just buy another back up. Ward Hardman pulled 3.5 stars for the first time. He should get atleast a half star more once I boost his stamina this off season. In other news, my youth pull (17 yo, inad playmaking, passable passing) sold for $46k. That's a bit more than I expected, but still not much. |

Yeah I was one of the teams trying to get him. I hoped that I could get him for 45k, so when the bidding was at 36k I just bumped it up to 45k. I think for raising it so much I shoudl get a present. You can just send me Ward, or Clyde. Thanks!

Training
Playmaking No pops in playmaking this week. The next one I have scheduled for a trainee is in three weeks: Ward Hardman should level up to brilliant. Form Henric Matsson +1 to Excellent Ward Hardman +1 to Solid Per Einarsson +1 to Solid Aaron Ventura +1 to Solid Patrik Tellander +1 to Passable Jesse Smith +1 to Weak Jared Salmon -1 to Passable Jason van der Veen -1 to Passable Experience Huey Poe +1 to Weak Ward Hardman +1 to Poor Team Totals Form Starters +3, -1 Reserves +3, -1 Total +6, -2 Experience +2 Value Increase $455,000 Decrease $92,000 Total +$363,000 Thoughts Not bad at all. With an increase in form for both forwards, I should have a very nice attack this week. This update sets another high mark for the Pens in value: $12,876,000 with an average of $613,143 per player. On another note, the Penguins have 6 players worth over $1 million for the first time ever (Cooper, Jude, Venkataraman, Bautista, Matsson, Gil). There is an interesting situation for the third defender spot. Marcel Espin Templado, my usually starter, is solid and in passable form. However, Aaron Ventura is now up to solid form though he is only passable in defending. I'll probably stick with Templado... Judging from this update, I'm predicting I'll get a supernatural midfield Sunday (barring cards and injuries). Cooper and Jude had fairly large increases in value, but remained at the same level in form. Jose Maria Gil increased slightly in value, and Ward Hardman, who I will most likely play as a winger towards the middle, increased to solid form. If only Ward's stamina were higher... I'm going to make sure he gets two good weeks of stamina training this offseason. |

Economy Update
I gained a whopping $44k this week. I suppose it's not bad considering I didn't have a home game though. I gained a total of 4 supporters this week since I drew last Sunday's game. It sure ebats the big zero I got last week. The sponsors are dancing, and the supporters seem to be on drugs but not quite high yet. Cash funds: 1 349 460 US$ (1 322 610) US$ Sponsors: dancing in the streets Supporter Club: 2925 members Supporters: delirious This week's youthie was a nice one. 17 years old and solid defending. Also has passable setpieces and inad scoring (too bad it will never be useful). Should make a nice profit. I swear my touh squad is rigged to only generate defencemen. This is the second guy with solid defending this season along with two passables. Joey Justice 78 000 US$, 17 years, passable form Has disastrous experience and wretched leadership abilities Stamina: poor Keeper: disastrous Playmaking: poor Passing: weak Winger: poor Defending: solid Scoring: inadequate Set Pieces: passable Next Match vs The Wolfpack I hope we will bounce back after last week's disappointing draw. My Penguins get homefield advantage this time, which should make up for the midfield difference that kept us from winning last match. The lineups should look quite a bit like it did last week, if not exactly. Nothing less than win is expected once again. Last edited by TargetPractice6 : 05-24-2003 at 09:29 PM. |
