reports are that Pat Riley was seen foaming at the mouth at this news. someone wipe up his drool.

i'm surprised Riley showed this much patience. this is akin to building a sick gaming rig - and letting someone else play with it.

this in no way deters my entusiasm for Miami and the under in win totals. bet that puppy with both hands all in.

Embarrassing. I would have more respect for Riley if he would have just fired Van Gundy in the off season and said he wanted to coach the team now that they had a good chance to win.

Really what he should have done - since he wasn't building a team for Van Gundy to coach, he was building a team for him to coach. Ridiculous considering what Stan has done with the team the last two years.

I don't see how it hurts Van Gundy. He still gets his salary and is the guy that everyone will look to, when seeking out a new coach for their team, now that Riley has made himself look bad. Surely they talked about it and were like, "look, if the team underachieves, it's on my hands." and Van Gundy saves himself the mess of dealing with a squad that could surely not make it to the finals again, if things continue as they have.

Not that it's not messed up that it happened, though.

Well I agree - I don't think it hurts VG, but I think it's a black eye for the franchise and Riley.

Riley is a carpetbagger. He hasnt made it out of the first round since when, 97? I could coach Shaq and Wade past the first round.

Well, it is true - he had no interest in coaching the Heat until he saw they could win.

I think it is about as likely as UC Davis beating Stanford in both football and basketball...
