##All-League First-String Wide Receiver Haywood Jefferies STL

I love to see this.

And whats up with Andre Ware being a "Legend of the Game" already? Did he pull an early retirement like ol' Dana last year?

Funny you should ask... actually, he did.

I'm sure it will... at this rate, there will be nothing but UTEP and Texas A & M all-stars in the league in the next 2-3 years.

Just a TCY note... Placerville U.'s top recruit from last year, QB J.T. Meyer, should start this season - he redshirted last season. He looks awesome in pre-season... and he got straight A's last year. I'm going to be keeping an eye on this one...

I really need to recruit better WR's and RB's for him, though.

2005 TCY Update

Iowa beat Western Michigan in the national title game.

Player of the year is QB Grady Grasmanis from Toledo. I'm betting he's going to suck at the pro level... we'll see when I export the draft.

Placerville U. improved to 6-5. Finished 4th in the Sol. 8, and 64th in the nation. Having a winning season is kind of nice for a change. If we had played better in our conference schedule, we would have been in a bowl game...

Awesome recruiting year... scored a 95. Got big help on the O-line and at WR, and some decent RB prospects.

There's a names database that the game uses to generate player names. If the name of the player is something obscure, the draft editor won't accept it. I give the player a generic name (and make a note of it, so I know who it is), and then after I import the draft in FOF4, I can go in and change the name back to the originally suggested name.

So, in the game, you'll see the exact names. The changed names notation is more for my benefit.

Hmmm...Pilon is obscure...interesting...grew up with them...both went to Syracuse...Jeff was signed by the Jets I believe...both now play in the CFL...as did their father.

Maybe they don't exist and it's all in my obscure mind...lovely.

I digress.

Go Eagles...don't draft an O-Lineman this year!!!!

2005 Pre-Season Report

No staffing changes were made for the Redskins this year. Stadium upgrades are not an option.

Ticket prices will go up again to offset expected increases in costs. Our bottom line is still profitable, but it diminished greatly from last year.

The draft file is successfully imported. No big surprises. Charile Ward looks like he's going to have to be a "breakout" if he's ever going to make it in this league. The rest of the TCY-generated talent is very strong - I may have to boost our supplemental ratings a bit to keep them competitive.

There's not much available in free agency - no major name talent that I can see. I sign some mediocre talent at LB and OL, and that's about it.

The draft is coming up. The trade with Seattle from last year gives me the #5 pick in the first round. I also have the #30 pick in rounds 1, 2, and 3. I will have to make the most of this limited number of choices. The player I really want most is WR Gary Clark. I don't know if I can get him - I may have to trade up. I also really need help on the OL, as I have one solid tackle, and one solid C, and a bunch of garbage everywhere else.

Draft details coming up...

2005 Rookie Draft

I don't think there's any way Gary Clark falls to #5, and I can't negotiate anything reasonable with New Orleans for the #1 pick. I'm going to have to wait and hope he falls a spot or two.

New Orleans makes an incomprehensible pick - they select CB Brock Harvey from NC State. Granted, Harvey is a great talent, but the Saints are loaded on defense, and weak on offense.

Buffalo picks second, and they're willing to deal. I send them the #30 pick, next year's #1, and 2007's 1st and 2nd round picks, in addition to QB Kevin Murray. Murray will be happier as a starter in Buffalo, I get my elite WR, and the picks I send them shouldn't be very high, if this trade works out.

With the #5 pick overall, I select G Erik Flamebeard. He gives the Redskins some much-needed help on the OL.

In round 2, I take ILB Trey Merkins. He's a steal at that pick, and since I'm running a 3-4 defense, I need all the LB help I can get.

In round 3, I select QB Shaun Morabito from Western Michigan. Ward will probably be available as an undrafted free agent, and Morabito looks like a better pro prospect right now.

Here's the results for rounds 1 through 3:
Code:
1. New Orleans - Brock, Harvey, CB, North Carolina State 2. Washington - Clark, Gary, WR, Florida 3. Minnesota - Horn, Rich, DE, Pittsburgh 4. Oakland - O'Hara, Shaun, G, Rutgers 5. 2005 Post Draft News

Charlie Ward ended up signing with the Oakland Raiders before I could grab him.

Also, this just in from the league office:

From: The League Office

The league office has decided to suspend Joe Cabot of Cincinnati for the 2005 season.

Cabot tested positive for drug use, in violation of the league's strict anti-substance abuse policy.

This is huge news. The Reservoir Dogs can pretty much kiss their season goodbye - Cabot is a stud QB, and they have nothing but undrafted free agent garbage backing him up right now.

Seattle 0-16? That's impressive as hell.

Montana and Craig tearing it up...that's nice to see.

Damn- Jimmy Smith didn't really hurt the offense as they still scored 420. However, the defense was crap (except for Jacksonville).

And what happened to HB Leeland McElroy? I'm guessing a serious injury as he's not on the entire rushing list.

Ditto for Earl, seems odd not seeing him with at least 1,500 yards on the ground.

It's not a big deal or anything. I was just browsing through the members list, and saw that this old name was still active. I had the password re-set, and decided to start using it.

I'll do a detailed analysis of the team performances and injuries here in a bit...

Injury plagued.

Again.

Jim Miller went out in week 2 with a torn rotator cuff.

Urlacher out in week 4 with a hamstring pull.

Gault out in week 8 with a ruptured achilles.

Booker out in week 15 with a broken ankle.

The only bright spot? Walter Payton played all 16 games for the first time in his career. He had 1287 yards, at 4.0 per carry. Unfortunately, his first two injury-riddled seasons seem to have taken a lot out of him, and from his present ratings, he'll never be more than a good RB.

I'm glad I dumped Nielsen on the Seahawks. He got hurt last season, and his ratings are pathetic now. So Seattle has no real starting QB.

They started a rookie at RB, Emmanuel Shaw, who had 848 yards at 3.4 per carry.

The only bright spots on that team are Bosworth and Largent. Without a solid QB, they're going nowhere.

McElroy went down in week 5. MCL knee surgery... not due back for 44 weeks. Very bad news. He was averaging 5.2 YPC before the injury...

Earl Campbell had 1208 yards at 4.3 YPC, and played in all 16 games. Not a bad year - he just had fewer carries than before.

Duffy played in 9 games, and started in 4 of them. He had 16 catches for 372 yards (that's 23.2 YPC - not bad), and 2 TD's.

2005 Wild Card Preview

Miami at Buffalo (-2)

Honestly, Miami has no prayer in this game. Dan Marino went out with a torn ACL in Week 12, and they have garbage at QB. This is Buffalo's game to lose, with O.J. Simpson expected to get plenty of carries.

New England (-3) at Kansas City

The Patriots are without starting WR Paul Revere, but are otherwise healthy, and expect to pound on this year's token AFC West champion. The Chiefs are further hampered by the loss of RB Christian Okoye, who was injured in the last regular season game.

San Francisco (-6) at New Orleans

The Niiners will miss Jerry Rice (out with a hyperextended elbow), but not much. New Orleans has made an impressive return from their winless season last year, but their tough defense will be taxed by the potent offensive attack of the 49ers. New Orleans RB Andrew Cote will have to have a huge game for them to have any chance to advance.

Washington (-3) at Minnesota

The Redskins will have to stop the Vikings without DT Dave Butz, who leads the team in sacks. Vikings QB Sean Salisbury is listed as questionable, with a pulled groin.

Cool...

You know, looking over the Cowboys draft I was wondering what in the hell they were doing using their second and third round picks to draft a punter and a kicker respectively. But I guess it worked. I hope I don't drive them back into the ground when I take over...

Dolphins Gun Down Bills 20-10

Who is Edwin Mummert?

With All-Pro QB Dan Marino out for the season, the Miami Dolphins turned to the unheralded 7th round draft pick from Eastern Michigan to lead them through the playoffs. Mummert stepped up and completed 22 of 34 passes for 183 yards, 2 TDs, and 1 INT.

The Dolphin's defense shut down the Bills only offensive weapon, keeping O.J. Simpson to just 48 yards on 23 carries.

Patriots Hunt Down Chiefs 31-19

Patriots QB Owen Hunter passed for 134 yards and 3 TD's in a dominating victory over the Chiefs.

The Chiefs managed only one touchdown against a clearly superior New England defense.

The Saints Go Marching Home; Niners Beat New Orleans 27-17

San Francisco QB Joe Montana was 20 for 30 for 253 yards and 2 TD's in the 49er's victory over New Orleans. RB Roger Craig had 94 yards on 24 carries.

Saints QB Luther Twisp was 20 for 34 for 259 yards, 1 TD, and 2 INTs, one of which was returned 89 yards for a touchdown. New Orleans was unable to run the ball effectively, and RB Andrew Cote was held to 28 yards on 11 carries.

Redskins Beat Vikings In OT, 26-23

A late field goal by Redskins kicker Lou Groza tied the game with 55 seconds to go, and sent the game into overtime. The Redskins won the toss, and drove the ball 69 yards before Groza connected again to give the Redskins their first playoff victory in team history.

Redskins QB Sonny Jurgenson was 24 of 39 for 321 yards, 1 TD, and 1 INT. WR Art Monk was his favorite target, with 7 catches for 143 yards.

Vikings QB Sean Salisbury limped through a groin injury and completed 28 of 45 passes for 383 yards and 2 TDs.

2005 Divisional Round Preview

Miami at Houston (-1)

Clearly, the Dolphins have earned a bit of respect after their impressive first round performance. They head to Houston, where they will have to overcome a powerful offensive attack led by QB Warren Moon. The Oilers have been here before, and are expected to put a decisive end to the Dolphins playoff run.

New England at Pittsburgh (-3)

Steelers QB Terry Bradshaw is listed as probable with a sprained thumb. He's enjoying his first complete season, passing for over 4000 yards. The Patriots easily dispatched an unworthy Chiefs team last week, but will find the Steelers more formidable.

San Francisco (-4) at St. Louis

The Maroons are hobbled by injuries to Leeland McElroy, DE Brandon Mitchell, and LB Quentin Coryatt. It will be difficult for them to overcome the potent 49ers offense without two of their best defensive players and their all-star running back.

Washington at Dallas (-3)

The Cowboys swept the Redskins in the regular season in close games (both decided by less than a touchdown), and look to continue their dominance over their most bitter rival.

Dallas has a healthy roster, and the Redskins will have to overcome the loss of rookie phenom WR Gary Clark, who blew his ACL in last week's win over Minnesota.

Oilers Drill Dolphins 45-16

Watch out... the Oilers are back!

Miami's surprise playoff run came to a screeching halt in Houston, as the Oilers completely manhandled the outclassed Dolphins.

Oilers RB Earl Campbell rushed 18 times for 159 yards and 2 TDs. QB Warren Moon was 20 for 30 for 346 yards and 4 TDs.

Steelers Overcome Bradshaw Injury, Patriots, 32-21

Pittsburgh QB Terry Bradshaw ended his season with a torn rotator cuff in the first quarter, but backup QB Mitch Subramanian was able to take up the slack while passing for 131 yards and 1 TD. RB Franco Harris rushed 28 times for 94 yards and 2 TDs.

New England QB Owen Hunter was 21 for 29 for 250 yards and 2 TDs.

Montana's Comeback Falls Short - Niners Lose To Maroons 21-14

The St. Louis Maroons built up a 21 point lead over three quarters, and Joe Montana was only able to rally his team to two touchdowns in the 4th.

San Francisco RB Roger Craig was contained the whole game, rushing for just 20 yards on 12 carries. Montana had 195 yards passing on 18 of 30 completions, with 2 TDs and 1 INT.

Maroons QB Bucky Richardson was 24 of 34 for 230 yards and 1 TD.

Riggins Runs Over Cowboys, Redskins Win 30-26

Washington RB John Riggins carried 24 times for 122 yards and 1 TD, and QB Sonny Jurgenson thew 20 completions on 32 attempts for 269 yards and 2 TDs in the Redskins first (and most important) victory over the Dallas Cowboys this season.

Dallas RB Emmitt Smith had 23 carries for 91 yards and 2 TDs, and QB Roger Staubach was 16 of 27 for 248 yards, 1 TD, and 2 INTs.

***Edit... doh! Cut out the SF-STL game by accident

So how many times did you have to reset for the 'Skins to win...

Oh well, at least the Niners lost.

I KNEW there was no way the 'Skins could win without you being suspicious.

I just sim 'em and post the results. When you look at the fact that Dallas won game 1 in the regular season by 6 points, and game 2 by 3, it's not hard to suppose that both teams are very closely matched right now. If Staubach had a better game, this could have gone the other way.
