t-shirt for Alabama fans, one day only though

offered at TeeFury.com:

As I said, available today only. That's how TeeFury works. Shirt is $9 + $2 for shipping but will be gone at midnight eastern tonight.

Thought it was clever but couldn't remember if we had Alabama fans on here. Simply thought I'd share anyway...

Alabama has had that mascot for as long as I can remember. Probably longer than I've been alive. I have no idea why or how they got an elephant mascot, but my impression from my father when we watched games as a kid (He was a University of Tennessee grad) was that the Elephant had been around his entire life too.

So no surprise to see their mascot on the t-shirt

The elephant goes back to at least 1930 but the real origin of it has been lost to time apparently.

didn't realize they had an elephant as a mascot. Not being exposed to much of Alabama in any sense (thankfully) up here and all. Always just assumed they were one of those schools without an actual physiacl "mascot" and just had the "Crimson Tide" nickname.

Geez what's wrong with you. Everyone knows that elephants were indigenous to Alabama prior to the the 1950s

It's hard for me to think of the elephant ("Big Al") without thinking of how the fictional host Leonard Postoasties used to describe them on the weekend syndicated prediction show Leonard's Losers: He always called them the Puce Pachyderms, and that's stuck with me for close to 40 years now.

I was always told the story that a trunk company with an elephant mascot was used by a lot when the Tide went to the Rose bowl in the 30s and that Elephant stuck as a Alabama mascot too.
