Thank You For Serving Our Country - Veteran's Day Free Meals

USAF 1997-2004 Operation: Noble Eagle veteran

Today, Applebee's and Golden Corral is offering free meals to those who serve or have served. I thought I would pass that along to those who may not know.

Yeah - kudos to them. More places should get on board with this. It's a small gesture, but it's something right?

I'm not sure giving away microwaved Applebee's food is much of a sign of respect.

Thanks to all the guys around here that haveserved/are serving.

Just FWIW, Golden Corral website lists their "Military Appreciation Dinner Day" as being next Monday, Nov 16th.

Thanks for clearing that up. I was given some bad information.

It's a nice gesture but also a money maker and I would hate to be working at Applebees today.

One of my best friends is a marine who has done two tours in the Middle East and I appreciate all they do.

Ok how do they know you are a veteran? It's not like we get a special ID card or anything like that, unless you are retired.

USAF 1990-1995 - Kunsan AB, Loring AFB & Cannon AFB (with some time spent in some desert in some foriegn country...)

Even small things are a lot. There are a lot of homeless vets out there; one statistic I saw was that 3 out of 10 homeless vets are OIF/OEF vets.

For ours all you have to do is say so, no ID or anything needed. Yeah, it opens up to a good amount of fraud (which we see a lot of) but it's a better alternative than possibly turning away anyone who doesn't have a military ID.

I know Outback is allowing either pictures of you in uniform or your DD214.

Military ID would be my guess. It's about time for lunch, haven't been to the Bees in a long time, suppose I'll see what they have to offer... can't pass up a free meal.

I got off pretty easy though, compared to some of my compatriots who stayed in even a year longer than me.

I read about the Applebees thing. It'll probably be too crowded to bother in the city, if I even knew where I could find one. But it's a nice gesture.

Most places will accept your word, but some places require to show military ID, DD-214, veterans organization membership card, or your VA medical card.

Jedi,

The Kun! I served two years as an Air Force Capt. at Osan during my 8 years of service . I was lucky to have served 7 of my 8 years overseas in Asia, Europe and alittle in the ME .
Operation Desert Storm and Operation Provide Comfort.

Like I said before, I haven't been to the Bees in a while, so I'm not up to par on their typical Wednesday night... I wouldn't say it was busy, but it was pretty well occupied, nothing what I would consider abnormal. I should add that I am upstate right now, so that may have something to do with it, too.

Ah ok cool. I was curious how places handle people lying about being a veteran, but, I guess you would have to figure in some of that happening.

I wonder if I could get away with using my old ID that I kept Of course, I'd have to find it first.

Haha. Actually, I went to that 'other' desert before going to Cannon. Funny how both places had a very "interesting" smell to them.

Right on. Cupertino not being a big military town, I was wondering how it would work.

Thanks everyone!

Nice!! You ain't been packed until you been Wolf Packed!!! Could go for some yaki mandu and some soju. I tried staying overseas, but, just couldn't find my way there after Korea, unless it was a TDY. After the Kun, went to Loring and then they closed that base down and my only two choices were Minot (no f'ing way) and Cannon. What did you do when you were in? I was an AGE mechanic...ah I miss the smell of JP4 and hydraulic fluid in the morning.

I never served, but I did go in to Applebee's today for my free meal, and had the riblets. The first time they brought out the riblets, some of the riblet sauce was touching my mashed potatoes, so I asked for a different meal. They started to take away my first plate, and I told the girl "I want that food in a box, and I want it back here, or I'm gonna need to speak with your manager."

They brought out a new riblets plate, and it was okay. Nothing special. I found the whole thing a waste of my valuable time. As I was walking back to my car, I saw my waitress leaving her car. Guess she was taking a smoke break. When she went inside I dumped my first riblets all over her windshield.

Serves that bitch right for being unpatriotic.
