Fantasy Football draft help
Okay guys - I've gone back and forth and really don't know who to pick in my draft tomorrow:
10 man league PPR, 6 pnts for all TD, 1pnt for every 25 yds rushing/rec., 1 pnt for every 50 yards passing. Start 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, K, DT I'm drafting 7th and guessing the following will be gone: LT Westbrook AP Addai S.Jackson Brady So who do you guys suggest I pick @ 7?

I say Moss. Potential is way too good to pass up. I'd even take Owens over the rest...

i'm interested in this too, as i also have the 7th pick in a 10 team draft (draft is next tuesday). i voted for portis, as i think he will have a big year, and i'm looking to get the best WR available on the way back.

I think you have to go with Moss here. TO is a great player but Moss gets my vote because of his QB and his team's playbook.

My thought was to get a quality RB (Portis, Lynch, ect.) and get one of the top 5 WR's going back up.

6 points for every TD? Shouldn't we be looking at a QB here?

I just don't like taking a QB in the 1st round... Only start one QB compared to finding two RB and two WR's to start each week.

With TDs weighted heavily, and no differentiation between passes and rush/rec, I think Manning has to be considered. In a 10-team league you're going to have quality at QB anyhow, but that scoring system really rewards passing TDs more than most.
If your plan is instead to get a RB and WR here at 7 and 14... why not start with Moss and get the top guy there? You're still going to get one of the next several RB at pick 14 if that's what you want, and the difference between "Portis, Lynch, etc." or whomever you get at #14 is bound to be a lot less than the dropoff between Moss and whomever you get at #14 there. Just the fact that you have to list a whole trail of RBs to describe what you might do there should tell you this -- there's not a huge differentiation among the tier you're looking at here. |

You've also got to figure that Manning and maybe Romo will be gone by the time you get to pick -- so if you want a RB, one of the guys you think are drafted might fall.

I understand what you are saying but I just like to get my 2 RB's / 2 WR"s intact before I look at a QB. Hell, the way the league drafts Manning may be there for my in the second round.

That's not so much the question as it would be 11TD Portis over what RB he could get in the next round vs 35TD Manning and what he could get later. And as a Manning owner, I'm still viewing 35TD as an awfully optimistic number right now. I hope you're right and all, but gotta compare apples to apples then weight the differences. If he's pretty sure the draft is going to go RB heavy early that has to factor into his choice too.

Barber is going around there, or a little earlier, in most projections.

I just grabbed last year's numbers. I know that isn't a proper projection for next year, but someone that scores 2x-3x more is going to get my pick. If Romo or Brees was still around in the next round, I'd be pretty tempted to pick them up too. In a QB-heavy scoring system, I can't believe they wouldn't get tremendous trade value. |

We'll have to agree to disagree. I think with the trend towards RBBC, nabbing two clear #1 RB's (if you can) gives you a big advantage. The difference in scoring between a guy like Manning and Hasselbeck (who you can pick up after nabbing a pair of RB and a WR if not later) isn't as great as taking a chance with some of the second/third tier RB compared to guys who are locks to touch the ball 250 times barring injury. Injury is obviously the biggest unknown factor, but give me the clear cut #1 RB type and I'll pick up a QB later on more often than not. Brady was ridiculous last year, but after that the difference (to me) in QB scoring doesn't warrant taking one this high.

I would take Randy Moss. There's probably not a ton of difference between the running backs you can get with your 1st round pick versus your second round pick. There could be a big difference between Randy Moss and any other wide receiver.

This is my exact felling about drafting Moss 1st. My ideal scenario would be if Gore dropped for my second round pick. In a PPR league I think Gore can be a decent #1 in this format.

More I'm looking at mock draft, cheat sheets, ect. I'm thinking of selecting Gore (I think could be a stud with PPR) or Barber 1st and still able to select one of the top 4 or 5 WR's.
I guess I'm thinking what would I rather have: Gore and Wayne OR Moss and MJD?

With the #14 pick, you should be able to look at RBs like MJD, Grant, maybe Larry Johnson if people are nervous about him. WRs available could include studs like Wayne or Owens, and would likely include guys like Edwards and Fitzgerald. Personally I would probably still go with two RBs, but a lot of smart folks are moving away from that approach especially in smaller leagues.

I think selecting 2 RB's first is becoming a thing of the past. To many RBBC to give decent depth at RB...
I'm just having a real hard time deciding who to pick for my 1st RB: Gore, Barber, or Portis. Should I be worried about Barber splitting carries with Jones?

No. The absolute worst-case (barring injury of course) would be for him to split carries just as much as he did with Julius Jones. And when that was the scenario, he was still an excellent fantasy RB.

I feel in the second round I can't pass up a top tier WR for a low 2nd/ or top 3rd tier RB - especially in a PPR league...

Dude - my brain is so f'n scattered right now. I've gone back to wanting Moss in the 1st and even taking another top tier WR in the 2nd (if their is one available). Then stock piling on RB's 3,4, & 5th rounds...
Is this a crazy strategy?

There aren't going to be many RBs to "stockpile" in rounds 3-5.

Wes Welker was a reach and taking a TE before your second RB was a mistake, but you may have bailed yourself out getting Maroney and Parker in 5 and 6. Nice break there.

How did Portis last that long and I'm assuming the only way it took the guy 21 seconds to select AP was sheer stun time.
