You Have $15, Pick Your All NBA Team

They made one up for Iowa based on this. So I thought I would bring the NBA one here. It may be hard to read.

Frazier- $1
Jordan- $5
Durant- $2
Duncan- $3
Russell- $4

I have lots of points our there. Russell is there for defense and rebounding. I dont know much about Frazier. But I needed a $1 player. I think Jordan makes Durant even better. And Duncan is selfless and would fit well. Jordan is Jordan.

Stockton -- $2 -- don't need the other guys. Want someone to distribute the ball. Jordan -- $5 for obvious reasons. Then I would take Bird at $4 to be more of an outside shooter when guys collapse on Jordan. Duncan for $3 gives me good value. Olajuwon at a $1 is insane value relative to the other guys. Hugely underrated player in the history of the NBA.

I think Duncan at $3 and Olajuwon at $1 should be on most every team.

+1, they seemed no brainers to me.

Magic/Jordan/Pippen/Duncan/Olajuwon for me.

Yeah, you could probably get by with a $2 frontcourt because KG is not that huge of a drop-off from Duncan. If you could fudge positions I'd put LeBron at PG and have a lineup of James/Jordan/Pippen/Duncan/Olajuwon.

PS - If I had $15 to make an all time Iowa starting lineup, I'd be asking for a refund

Frazier gets no love because none of you are old enough to have seen him play in his prime. I'd go with him in a heart beat, particularly against a team with Stockton at the point. Stockton would never get the ball over the half-court line against Frazier if Walt didn't want him to.

So,

Frazier $1
Drexler $2
Bird $4
Duncan $3
Russell $4

With the $1 left over I'll bring Pippen off the bench since we will pressure the ball all the way and let Russell clean up under the basket.

Great minds…

Magic $5
Drexler $2
Bird $4
Duncan $3
Olajuwon $1

Olajuwon and Duncan are steals at that price, and my team must had Bird and Magic. With just 2 left, I will take Drexler as a consolation. My team can score inside and out. They can defend. They can rebound. They also have a little style. The fact that 4 of my all time favorite players made the team is just gravy.

Since it doesn't say that you need to choose one player from each position listed, I'm definitely going with that lineup with LeBron subbed in for Magic. Same cost, and you're not losing out on that much passing ability for the extra scoring and defense.

I'll take Frazier, Wade, Pippen, Garnett and Olajuwon, and pocket the other $10.

Yes, this begs the question of whether you can have someone like Chris Paul for 50 cents or if someone will give you $20 for picking Mark Madsen as your PF.

I feel like there are two really good answers here, and the question is whether or not Frazier + LeBron is better than Stockton + Bird. As has been noted, Duncan and Olajuwon are ridiculous steals at their cost. I think I'm with Quik and The Jackal:

PG Frazier
SG Jordan
SF James
PF Duncan
C Olajuwon

It would be cool to see games with each of our teams. Are there any pro basketball historical simulation products out there that could do this?

In order of no brainers for me

Jordan $5
Pippen $1
Duncan $3
Wilt $3 (Though I am concerned how he will play against guys his own size...but if he can channel leading the league in assists Wilt Jordan and Pippen will handle the rest)
Isiah $3 (Really tempted to go with Stockton here and keep a $1 in my pocket but early career Isiah defense gets him the spot.

When you have the $4 PF regularly saying on TV that the $3 PF is the best all-time at the position, you definitely question the thought process that went into making the lists.

Start with MJ and Bill Russell. Pairing Pippen at $1 with MJ is just too good value. Duncan's better than Garnett, but not by much (agree that PF needs some fixing), and nobody's scoring on us down low. Leaves $4 for PG, so why not see if Big O can buy into a team when he's sleeping in the same hotels as his teammates.

Here is an interesting wrinkle. Who would your next five be that aren't listed?

PG-Gary Payton
SG-Pete Maravich
SF- Dominique Wilkins
PF-David Robinson
C-Bill Walton

Not sure if Robinson is a true 4, but I feel decent about the team.

I win. Russell never lost.

PG - Gary Payton $0 - he'll shut down the other PGs. He's not the best PG of all time, but he's what I want for this squad. Incredibly underrated. The guy scored about 20+ ppg and 8 assists a game while putting up some of the best defense ever seen 9 years in a row.
SG - Jordan $5 - um, yeah. Jordan's ability to create is perfect for this group, never mind the defense.
SF - Bird $4 - outside shooting, rebounding and the ability to facilitate the creation of offense for everyone else.
PF - KG $1 - grossly under-priced and the perfect team guy for this squad - the 10-15 foot shot, rebounds, incredible defense, intensity.
C - Bill Russell $4 -greatest winner of all time + rebounds + awesome outlet passing (to Jordan and Payton).

That's $14 and I don't care who you pick, you're not scoring or rebounding against this team, while these guys bring enough scoring and shot creation to put up enough points to win.

For my last $1, I'll bring on Pippen so the team would have a small ball squad to run some of these more ponderous squads right off the court.

I'd tend to agree with the exception of Chris Paul at PG and maybe Elgin Baylor in there somewhere on the wing.
