ESPN Hollywood-WTF??

Just saw this advertised right after the "Hollywood minute" on Sportscenter. They are turning into the MTV of sports.....Are the following shows far behind? Kenny Rodgers and Randy Johnson hosting a hidden Camera practical joke show called "plunked" where they have fun roughing up Media types. This can be followed by a fitness show called "Sweating in the Driveway with TO" and finally, the "Billy Belichick fashion power hour" where the Pats Coach reveals he is straight and travels the country turning Metro-sexuals back into manly slobs.

As if competitive eating and "Quite frankly" were not enough......

I can see a time when ESPN will show an occasional sports event and focus on MTV type hip shows.

Yep, you wanna watch sports? You'll need to subscribe to ESPN 3 - Total Sports channel.

They have to do something. Fox Sports is starting to beat them in the ratings and don't look now But independents like Altitude are are also starting to creep in with local Sports programming.

Anyone here remember The Nashville Network?

Is this the show that Thea Andrews is going to be on? Anything that gets Thea Andrews back onto the air is good enough for me. No, I'm still not going to watch it.

I read on another board that cable networks typically get around $0.20 per subscriber, but ESPN gets $2.60. Will they be able to justify this high price if they become just another channel, but with a sports theme? Without regular live sports, and without cable providers seeing value in their $2.60 per subscriber, they must be due some real struggle?

Not if they are getting good ratings with young males, they spend more and local companies will buy ads.

But will young males continue to watch crap like ESPN Hollywood, or the sports related dramas that ESPN are talking about increasing at the expense of live sports?

Maybe they will, I guess. The youth of today is famously stupid.

So far, I haven't seen ESPN Hollywood or dramas truly cut into live sports. What live sporting event is ESPN showing at 6PM on ESPN2. At that hour it is typically a re-run of a billiards match shown 10s of times already.

If these new program get higher ratings then ESPN can continue to justify the high cost to the cable/satellite providers.

seriously, two of the best TV ideas on the last 30 years was an all music video channel and an all sports channel.

and now the music video channel doesn't show videos and the sports channel is on it's way to showing no sports.

fuck MTV and fuck ESPN
