Dave & Buster's

Any thoughts on the place? Is it fun? Worth the money? Food decent?

Decent but not great food, addicting games, awesome happy hour specials.

I just got back from there less than an hour ago. I think the food is pretty good. I don'y know anything about happy hour. The games are lots of fun. I'd go more often if it wasn't 45 minutes from my home.

How much does each game cost?

You buy cards (like 160 credits for 27 dollars) and each game varies from 4.3 credits to up until 10.9 per game

I prefer ESPNZone to D&B.

But I prefer D&B over Jillian's anyday.

My kids like the place. Unfortunately, there are none in El Paso so we'll go one more time before we move and cash in our tickets. I think the food is pretty good. The wings are good and I like the moist towlettes they give you. They're sturdy and very nice. Not that moist towlettes are the biggest thing...

Their meal and playcard deal is a great deal. I think it's like $12 for a meal and a $10 powercard. There are about 8-10 options and my wife and I usually get them and give the cards to the kids. It's only available at certain times and certain days of the week, though.

I think Jillian's is OK. The games are similar to D&B's, I think, although I've only been to Jillian's once. As for ESPNZone, the one in Las Vegas is a joke. I don't know if the others are any better, but I expected so much more from ESPNZone, and I was horribly disappointed. Obviously, this is just my opinion, and I'm not saying you're wrong, but I just couldn't find much to like about ESPNZone.

I think it definitely depends on where you go. I've been to the ESPNZones in DC and Baltimore and like them better than the D&B in Rockville and the Jillian's in Arundel Mills.

But I can see how other locations may vary. I don't hold it against you Pumpy.

D&B just bought out the Jillians here in Philly.

The games are expensive IMO but thats expected.

For what it's worth, the Jillian's at Arundel Mills you mention above has been bought out by Dave & Busters, and as nearly as I can tell the only difference is the name on the sign over the door.

When did that happen?

It's been a few years since I've been to Jillian's. I got pissed when they wouldn't let me in because they had some bogus dress code and I was in a sling and couldn't put on shoes. (I think I wasn't allowed in IIRC because I was wearing sandals, though they were letting lardos in with short shorts, which offended me a lot more visually than sandals would).

I've always enjoyed my trips to D&B. Good food, good drinks, fun games, loads of pool tables.

They just opened one in the Kansas City area, but I haven't been yet. Last one I went to was 5 years ago in DC. Those in the KC area should check out PowerPlay out in Shawnee. I like D&B better, but Powerplay is not bad. Seems to be more of a pizza place, as far as the food goes.

Last fall, I believe. I usually hold one class there when I teach at the Arundel Mills center (AACC) and when I told my students to meet at Jillian's they leapt to correct me. I was oblivious.

Chuck E Cheeses for the soon to be 4 year old's reward for being good and Dave & Busters for the now 10 year old when she has a good report card, which is always.

Fun place for kids and adults alike.

I would rather stick needles in my eyes than go to Chuck E. Cheese...at least the one here. It's full of screaming kids whose parents don't look after them and the service is awful. The only upside is that they sell beer, so when forced to go - I just cower in a booth and wait for the chaos to end. I don't think we've been there in 2 or 3 years...Anthony loves Jillians and D&B, though we don't go very often. He is happy to go to the local pizza place and dump quarters into video games

I'm a big fan of Dave & Buster's. Been considering making a trip down to the San Jose one, so if you go RFUS let me know if it's any good.

I wish I could find a list of places that have the horse racing game (the game where you get a card that you can take with you). My horse is starting to do very well, but I only make the trip into Pittsburgh about once every two months to play at D&B's. If there were a closer place, I'd be racing my horse nonstop.

The one here was just remodeled and the service has always been decent.. EXCEPT when you want to trade your tickets in for prizes, that's a mad house.

I actually crave that pizza for some reason on occasions. Oh, and I usually only go on weekdays when possible as the weekends are crazy.

I wish they were franchises, because I think I could end up owning Tallahassee if I could put a D&B here. The closest one I know of is in Jacksonville. When we lived in Dallas in the early 80s, we used to go to the original. I love the place.

I've been to D&B in Rancho Cucamonga, and to Gameworks down in Long Beach, and for both the food and the game selection, I definitely preferred Gameworks.

Dunno if they've got one of those up north, RFUS.

Chuck E Cheese is proof positive that Hell exists. It should be used by churches as a recruiting tool.

Derby Owner's Club. Terribly addictive game. Try checking this message board for location [and additional information]. I believe there are a few places that have them in your area [PA].

There is no Gameworks in Northern California yet. The only two in California are Long Beach and Ontario.
