Help Me Pick the New Mascot for the Cardinals
In my Madden 04 Dynasty, I am renaming the Cardinals as an attempt to sever all ties from the past. I heard about your board through backroom channels and I thought I'd come here and listen to your suggestions. Here is the thread where various documents and conversations are gathered for your perusal:
Madden 2004 Empty Cupboard And, for your reference, here is a list of the mascot names we are considering. Leave your opinion here or in the above thread. Thanks for your support! Bandits Comets Copperheads Cyclones Dynamos Enforcers Generals Highlanders Legends Marauders Marshalls Monarchs Railsplitters Rattlers Ravagers Sandcrabs Sandstorm Scorpions SkyChiefs Starfire Timber Rattlers Timberwolves Thunderwolves Trailblazers Warhawks Zephyrs -Abe Sargent Owner, Arizona Cardinals (currently)

Marauders.
Or in the same vein as the Miami Heat, the Arizona Dry Heat.

I'd also be winning to take suggestions, that's fine. Here were the thoughts behind the selections:
Snakes - Copperheads, Rattlers, Timber Rattlers - With the Arizona Rattlers being an AFL team and the Diamondbacks, there is an established Arizona Snake theme. These names fit that theme. Othe possibilities might be Vipers, Pit Vipers, Sand Vipers, Pythons, etc. Desert Themes - Scorpions, Sandcrabs, Sandstorm - These are meant to elicit desert-y time feels. Other possibilities might include Tumbleweeds, Cactii, and such. Old West Themes - Marshalls, Enforcers, Trailblazers, Legends, Generals, Bandits - These mascots are meant to utilize the rich history of the area in the late 1800's. Other possibilities might include Mustangs, Ghost Town, Gold Rush, and so forth. Indigineous People Themes - SkyChiefs, Thunderwolves, Timberwolves - Without being insensitive, we wanted to harness the rich heritage of the area. Wind Themes - SkyChiefs, Sandstorm, Zephyrs, Cyclones - Wind is an element that we identify with here in Arizona. Other possibilities might be Tornados, Sandtwisters, etc. Miscellaneous - Warhawks, Starfire, Railsplitters, Highlanders, Ravagers, Marauders, Comets, Dynamos, Monarchs - These were chose because they sound good or have a connection with the area. The Arizona Crater - Comets and Starfire. The Butterfly Migrations - Monarchs. And so on. Feel free to use these suggestions as guidelines!! -Abe Sargent Owner, Arizona Cardinals (currently)

Copperheads has a nice double-meaning... it sticks with the snake theme, and it also pays homage to the fact that Arizona is the "Copper State."

Well, I used Anasazi in my helmet thread - they were ancient peoples in the Southwest. For cacti, Saguaros would be appropriate. Oh, I used Windrunners for New Mexico (wind theme, obviously). And Rustlers (as in Rustler's Rooste.

Use the copperheads, team colors in copper and tourquoise with white and black highlites.
Copper collored (mettalic) helmet with a snake themed logo in touqoise black and white. Tourqouise jerseys for home games with copper colored pants and appropriate striping on jersey and pants. quite a good looking team! (did I set a record for mispelling tourqoise?) |

Sux no longer applies. Remember, we've every players, turned over our staff and coaches. This is not the same team as before, which is why we are changing the mascot - to lose that last tie with the old guard.

What about the Arizona Phoenix? Rise from the ashes of suckitude. A franchise reborn. Plus it's a good play on Phoenix Arizona.

Arizona Phoenix works well, or if you don't want quite as confusing a name, you could use Firebirds or Thunderbirds to keep it related.

The Monsoon. Like the real series of thunderstorms each year, they can be overhyped and deliver little.

I had a fictitious league where I named the Phoenix franchise, which I eventually moved to Tucson (because the NFL wouldn't share Sun Devil Stadium) the Phoenix Blaze (or Sunburst or something like that). If I ever got to build a new fictional league, I was going to name the franchise the Arizona Scorpions.

I kind of think Scorpions is a dull name on its own. But, like Iron Scorpions or Red Scorpions or Sand Scorpions or Sun Scorpions or Fire Scorpions or something, that's good.

As to Phoenix, we thought about it, it was sort of appropriate. But ultimately we thought it would be a but confusing. I also think that most people in the area think of Phoenix first as a city, then as a bird. Wouldn't want to name a team "Charleston" in South Carolina, now would I. "Welcome your South Carolina Charleston!" Even though Charleston may be a dance, people don't think about that first, but the city.
Now Thunderbird is good, One thing you have to think about is that sports announcers, writers, and fans will abbreviate things like Thunderbirds to T-Birds, which sounds pretty good. Timber Rattlers will probably shorten to T Rats, also good sounding. So take into account the shorter version of the name and if it sounds good. -Abe Sargent Owner, Arizona Cardinals (currently)

My suggestion for the new Team Song:
Well my name's John Lee Pettimore Same as my daddy and his daddy before You hardly ever saw Grandaddy down here He only came to town about twice a year He'd buy a hundred pounds of yeast and some copper line Everybody knew that he made moonshine Now the revenue man wanted Grandaddy bad He headed up the holler with everything he had It's before my time but I've been told He never came back from Copperhead Road Now Daddy ran the whiskey in a big block Dodge Bought it at an auction at the Mason's Lodge Johnson County Sheriff painted on the side Just shot a coat of primer then he looked inside Well him and my uncle tore that engine down I still remember that rumblin' sound Well the sheriff came around in the middle of the night Heard mama cryin', knew something wasn't right He was headed down to Knoxville with the weekly load You could smell the whiskey burnin' down Copperhead Road I volunteered for the Army on my birthday They draft the white trash first,'round here anyway I done two tours of duty in Vietnam And I came home with a brand new plan I take the seed from Colombia and Mexico I plant it up the holler down Copperhead Road Well the D.E.A.'s got a chopper in the air I wake up screaming like I'm back over there I learned a thing or two from ol' Charlie don't you know You better stay away from Copperhead Road

Credit to RendeR on his color scheme. You'll see a little nod in my most recent post over in my dynasty.

Anxiety,
I don't know if this is what you had in mind, but here is my crack at the helmet based on what you had described in the dynasty. I did my best with the logo, if you can find a better base image I can redo it.

Second is better. I used the Madden '04 logo entitled "Snake" Its a snake head facing a person, not at an angle. Course, the logo doesn't matter much, since I can't get them to show in the franchise. So they are on the uniforms on the "Creat-a-team function.
The aqua is a little darker. I wanted less contrast with the copper. But, that's a really good interpretation. I like it!!! -Anxiety

Thanks. I figure it's more difficult trying to do one for someone else's idea, as they already will have a picture of it in their head (or in this case, on Madden ). But, I figured I'd give it a try.
FWIW, here's the second one with the stripes/outlines darkened.
