Halo, and Halo 2 ... of course. If you like Knights of the Old Republic, and KOTOR 2, then Jade Empire. |

Assuming that you'll buy Madden 2006 and obviously NCAA 2006, these are the games I'd suggest:
Forza Motorsport (best racing sim for Xbox) NBA Street V3 (street basketball) NFL Street 2 (street football) ESPN College Hoops 2K5 ESPN NBA 2K5 ESPN NFL 2K5 Fight Night Round 2 (boxing game) Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition (car modding game) All ESPN games should be 20 $ or less, they're not perfect, but they're fun to play for a while. BTW, these are the games I own |

I don't think anybody does. It makes far more sense to pay the yearly fee of $50 than the monthly fee of $8.95 or whatever it is these days. Oh, wait, that isn't what you meant, is it? |

Halo 2 online is just WAAAAY to fun to be missed.
$50 a year? Who cares? That's nothing. Even if you just rent games and play them online, it'll be worth it in the end. |

Why would someone get the XBox versions of KOTOR and KOTOR2 instead of the PC ones? Serious question, what's the difference between them?

GTA San Andreas. I've been playing the crap out of that game. If you're a mature gamer of course.

The GTA series (III, Vice City, and San Andreas)
Jade Empire for sure Dead or Alive Extreme Beach Volleyball is a fun, light game, with gorgeous graphics Dead or Alive 3 has gorgeous graphics and is the most fun fighting game outside of SC 2 Soul Caliber 2 best fighting game ever, though I'm not real thrilled with Spawn as the exclusive character. Better than Heihachi, though I'd recommend ESM: Game of the Year edition like someone else did before, but honestly, it's probably better for the PC because of all the patches and mods you can download. Those are the games that get the most heavy rotation on my XBox outside of NCAA series.

If you're into horror adventure the Silent Hill games are very good and cheap.
The Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance games are fun diablo-style games. They shine with 2-player co-op. Ditto for LOTR: Return of the King, but less role playing with that one. SSX 3 is a lot of fun with tons of things to unlock and discover. And of course: Tiger Tiger Woods, ya'll

Thats what i got, and I liked every one of this:
ESPN NBA 2k5 (24/7 mode is great) Need for speed underground ( a classic. I liked most the old version) Soulcalibour 2 ( or 3 i don't remember, BTW a great fighting game for a quick xbox session) Defjam fight for NY (mindless but great. I went crazy for this. Addictive ) Amped 2 GTA III GTA Vice City Madden 2004 Madden 2005 ... I'm going to buy: -GTA San Andreas -Destroy all humans -Madden 2006 -NCAA 2006. I've read so much here that I ''need'' to buy it Last edited by Tara : 07-11-2005 at 01:49 AM. |

Destroy all humans without a doubt ...
Fairly simple 3D shooter/action game - but its got some nice tactical choices during play and the characterisation of the main aliens is great I bought it a couple of weeks ago for my eldest son and we've spent the last two weeks playing it nearly every evening for at least an hour or so - I'm still finding it fun and at last look we were only around 35% of the way through the game ... So far so good, its nice to find a game which has a sensible difficulty level, its not 'easy' but it hasn't crippled me to the extent which I just put it in the cupboard and forget about it (which I tend to do with most console games these days). |

PS> Cool things in that game so far:
* Reading random peoples minds and finding out a variety of humorous things about them .. * Powering my pyschic abilities up to a level where I can literally hurl tanks about the place * Literally making my alien run away scared the first time I came up against a robot - those things are mean * Cackling with glee the first time you get to destroy a building with your UFO. * Worrying that you're starting to associate with the aliens a little bit too much |

At least give Summit Strike a look / try the demo when it hits. Lots and lots of fixes and tweaks, and for a variety of reasons should be a nice bump up from GR2. But enough horn tooting. If you don't own Kung Fu Chaos for your Xbox, your library is incomplete.

Is that a fun single player game, or is it mostly multiplayer that makes it a classic? And is it fun with 2 or do you really need 4, ala bomberman? Can you play it on Xbox Live?

I'll throw in my thoughts about Kung Fu Chaos. I think it's a fine single-player game. I never played it multiplayer, but I would imagine that it gets more fun as you add players. A two-player run of it should be great, though. It isn't playable on XBox Live, which is a bit of a letdown, but I doubt there would be many people playing online anyway. Kung Fu Chaos does get a bit repetitive, but it's fun to try out new ways to do things. As far as recommending XBox games, all of the games I loved have already been mentioned (except maybe MVP Baseball 2005, but I know jbmagic has that for PC). Now, to go off on a tangent, a game that never got enough love was Whacked!. The first time I played Whacked! was when I got my XBox Live beta kit. A demo of the game came with it, and I played it nonstop. I eventually bought the full version, and it's an amusing game. The only problems are that you have to play a lot to unlock all of the movies in the game (many of which are hilarious) and I'm sure that almost nobody plays it online anymore. You can get around needing to unlock the movies by entering a cheat code, but then you really have no incentive to play anymore. If a lot of people played online, the game would have some more replay value after unlocking the movies, but I doubt that that's the case now. For cheap games, Project Gotham Racing 2 is a good one. It should be only about $20 now, and I got a lot out of that game. Even as an offline game, it's great, although it's best online. It's not as realistic as Forza Motorsport, but it's a lot of fun. I bought Midnight Club 3: Dub Edition soon after it came out, and I haven't even broken the shrinkwrap on it yet. That might be a good game, too, but it's not cheap yet. I'll add a couple more recommendations here: Outlaw Golf 2 and Outlaw Volleyball. They're very goofy games, but the gameplay is good on both of them. They're cheap and they play well offline. There are a lot of racy, corny jokes in both games, though, so if that's not your thing, stay away.

About Kung Fu Chaos:
Quote:
Yes, yes. Yes, yes. No. Single player is fun, 2-player co-op is fun, 4-player adversarial is fun. It's not on Live, so it's an invite-the-friends-over type of game. The game has a great sense of humor and just has to be experienced. It's a steal if you find it at $20 or under, it's probably my most played Xbox game.

Yes! But don't take my word for it, I think it depends on if you want realism (WE8) or not. Do a search here on Winning Eleven 8 for more details. Edit: Like in THIS thread. Note though - you'll need ActionReplay or something similar to get real rosters with WE 8. Last edited by moriarty : 07-12-2005 at 02:42 PM. |

Winning Eleven is a much better 'soccer' game than EA as far as it resembles soccer to play and control, FIFA is a good 'action' game - however if you like soccer then dribbling your defender the length of the pitch to shoot each time you get the ball doesn't feel right imho ....
(I tend to think of WE as a simulation game you control and EA as an arcade game) |

Last one I played had a 'league mode' where you took over a team and could do basic transfers for players based upon a points trading system ... was pretty fun and addictive, but by no means a full management mode.

Heh. This post made me chuckle. It would take 10 years for the game to evolve any kind of franchise mode that Marc would consider even halfway "full".

Marc, is Winning Eleven sold under another name? I've heard so much about it and would like to see it but I've never come across it in the shops here. Konami doesn't seem to figure very large here (googling Winning 11 says they're the publishers) so I wonder if it's published as something else or perhaps by another publisher.
