PAL 2 - Region Resitricted DVD's

Hey guys

So I bought From a Jack to a King and had it sent here from the UK and low and behold its region restricted. Any ideas how I can play this on a PS4 or on my laptop?

Not permanently, but you should be able to change your DVD drive region up to 5 times through the properties.

do you have to restart your computer after doing that?

Maybe...Im wondering now if PAL makes a difference. It's been a long time since I dealt with this.

I think that VLC player will allow you to play DVDs from any region. You might need to investigate your laptop DVD drive as it could be set to region 1.

I don't think PAL will be an issue if you are watching on a PC or a PS4 with an HDMI connection.

Actually, VLC does not circumvent this with most newer drives.

Try "DVD Region Killer", despite the martial name it is a pretty low key and easy to use program to circumvent the region protection on a disc-by-disc basis (so you don´t have to switch or system back and forth, which only works a few times like Dutch said)

If you also own a standard DVD/BluRay player aside from the PS4 or your Laptop, it might be worth googling the model name (and add "region free") as most players can be set to be region free very easily by punching in a code via remote at some point.


EDIT: Just looked it up, really weird that the PS4 is region free for games but not for DVDs, you would think that with streaming and everything the industry doesn´t really suffer much from imported DVDs ...

I cant find a DL of DVD Region Killer that makes it past my AVG virus...

get a dvd ripper. You can usually rip DVD's without being able to play them

The DVD Drive is just not seeing a DVD in there at all. It asks for a DVD and ejects it.

Do you have access to any type of Phillips brand DVD player? I've bought several movies from the UK and play them here on Phillips. There's a way to change to region code to 0 so it plays all regions.

I've found some great DVD deals when I've been in England (James Bond collection for $70) and I get stuff I can't get here (like the BBC's Coast series). Phillips work great for region hacking.

In a world with the internet it's ridiculous that a company that is producing a DVD with limited interest would be region restricting it. Talk about a great way to say fuck you to people paying for the DVD. This is the type of practice that makes people want to find illegal digital copies online.
