Not safe to be a cop in Philly these days
I'm not sure what the stats are on this for Philly or other cities, but it seems like it has been happening a lot this year in Philadelphia so far. Yesterday, a cop was shot and killed, and he was the 4th cop to be killed on duty in the last 11 months.
The Associated Press: Philadelphia cop killed while pursuing suspect PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A city police officer pursuing an armed suspect Tuesday afternoon was fatally shot, the fourth Philadelphia officer to die in the line of duty in the last year, authorities said. Another officer was wounded and the suspect was killed. ... Just this month, Philadelphia police mourned the loss of another officer who died in the line of duty. Officer Isabel Nazario died during a vehicle pursuit when the patrol car in which she was riding was broadsided by a teenager driving a stolen SUV. In May, Officer Stephen Liczbinski was fatally shot responding to a bank robbery. Officer Chuck Cassidy was fatally shot last October when he interrupted a robbery at a Dunkin' Donuts. Again, I don't know how often this typically happens or how many cops being killed in the line of duty in 12 months is considered normal statistically, but it seems like it's been happening a lot in Philly lately.
