Design an NFL Regular Season Ranking System
Obviously, the current one is broken. Please design a new system.

I know this is a parody thread, but I think the NFC South records may have been inflated by playing the NFC North and AFC West.

Everyone gets to make their own schedule.
A computer/poll system picks two teams from among the 32 to play in the Superbowl. Other teams have the option of playing in postseason games as long as they have an 8-8 record.

I'd like to add that each team from two of the divisions get to play the last place teams in the other divisions each week with 2 of those teams getting a bye because there's not enough last place teams. |

Divide the league into 4 8 team divisions and play a double round robin. The team that wins each division advances to a 4 team playoff.

I think the system is fine. You see this because the NFL has a ton of parity. As a Bears fan, our team could have been 12-4 or 6-10. We finished 9-7. It's all a matter of a few bounces. If the Bears don't choke against Houston in the final week of the season, the Eagles aren't even in the conversation right now.
I just don't think there is any system in place that can work when most teams are a couple players away from each other in talent. |

Divide the league into 16 2-team divisions & each division has a winner + a wild card team make the playoffs. Every team that goes to the playoffs gets to raise a banner proclaiming they feel special. (I like the 4 divisions with 8 teams format, but include wild card teams, keeping the current format. Then the "wild card" round is all "wild card" teams. Division winners get a bye. |

Six divisions with 5-6 teams. 162 game season. Division winners plus 1 wildcard in each conference.

In seriousness, I liked 3 divisions per conference better than 4. But whatever. Teh NFL rulez. |
