TPF Prediction

More users over at the TPF forums than here? Skydog is prowling over there as well.

I would venture to say the game is released today. I'm not sure of the time, but it's getting close.

If you are one of those who are buying TPF the second it goes on sale, I would keep THIS forum reloaded from time to time.

This will be a MUCH more release-ready product than TDCB or TPB. That much I can say with certainty.

At least everybody over there is calm, cool and in control. 400 could make a fortune selling banner advertising to Depends, 'cause I have a feeling a lot of guys over there are losing control of their bodily functions.

I like Ben being over there. Ben has the experience as a mentor and peer-to-peer counselor that many of the young men over at that board need.

Also, every visit there reminds me how g*d*mn annoying smilies can be. In recognition, I will refrain from using smilies the rest of the day. That is all.

Ya, I saw that you had issues with TPB. You still haven't got that to work yet huh?

I gave up on TPB. ITP crashed on me as well before I could even get it to the purchase screen.

Yeah I think its pretty childish, either its ready or not. Who wants these little "maybe if your lucky we'll let you have it today". Very unproffesional. This game has turned into LeBron James. Even if it's decent it's destin to fail.

It really doesn't matter to me when they release it, I am still going to wait for feedback anyhow.

I think it's kind of silly to start something like that. Just say when it's released, I don't need a countdown or teaser.

Guys, I think the .400 crew deserves a little leeway here. This is their first "it will be released when it is ready" game, and a portion of their fanbase isn't handling it well. Let's recap what has happened here:

1. They decide to go with "it will be released when it is ready" at some point after the 10/31 delay.

2. Their fanbase, always having had a definitive release date, doesn't react well to that at ALL. They want a release date. They're being strung along, etc. etc. etc. (Keep in mind that when Jim first started doing things that way, there was a similar reaction here, yours truly included. I have since come to realize that this is probably the best way of doing it.)

3. Arlie comes out with, "it will be released before Christmas." This still wasn't definitive enough for a lot of people. THEY WANT A RELEASE DATE. They always have a release date. Why is .400 being so "coy" with us???!!!!

4. A forum member decides that the game should/will be released on Friday, and apparently sways a lot of people's opinion to think they same thing. People appear in droves on Friday, waiting for a release that was never promised, or even hinted at, on that day.

5. People who were there Friday for a long time get even MORE upset, because "400 is stringing us along. They should tell us something. They KNOW we were expecting it on Friday."


6. Same thing happens Saturday. People assume, with no prodding from .400, that the game will come out on Saturday. Even more "stringing along" accusations.


7. (I don't know this for a fact, but it makes sense to me....).400, not having ever dealt with this kind of rebellion before, decides, "Well, we need to tell them something." (This, imho, was probably a mistake....) We'll tell them the truth, which is that if everything goes like we hope, we'll get the game out Sunday.


They haven't really said anything today other than that they're trying to get the game out. If you ask me, I think it speaks to the wisdom of not working under any sort of public deadline for a game release, and then being pretty darned vague and non-specific even when you think you're really close to a release. ("late October or early November" was the word on FOF2K4 I think)

That's just my $0.02.

Bottom line: Over time, and relatively bug-free releases, Jim has finally gotten us trained us pretty well to accept "it will be released when it is ready." The .400 forum members haven't been "housebroken" yet.

I didn't have a problem with them saying that, "if everything goes right we might be able to release the game today". Nothing wrong with that. Its just that a few people that are associated with .400, and one would assume has inside knowledge, have posted little hints that the game might be out and little winking smilies. That doesn't help things over there and really isn't necissary when the community is just reaching, searching, and hoping for some sign from the .400 team that the game will be released in the next 10 min.

I'm not as familiar with the .400 folks. Who are the ones "associated with .400?" When I think of .400, I think of Joe, Arlie, ScottVib, Farrah and Angie. I know there are more developers (Gary for basketball, who I don't think has posted, then I guess someone for wrestling and boxing). Have some of those folks posted in the thread?

I can't say that I know that .400 community that well either, I mostly go by thier signature's and reactions to when they post. The 2nd post in this thread I thought was uncalled for, and there was 1 or 2 more in the really long, annoying thread. Its the very small things like this that is feeding the monster over there right now.

Heh. This supports what I was saying. I just had a long PM conversation with someone from the .400 boards. All day long, he's been trying to get me to give him some "inside information" about the release. All day long I've been telling him, "I am confident that once the game is release-ready, Arlie will release it ASAP." From his continued questioning, I thought he didn't believe me. It has now become clear that it wasn't so much that he didn't believe me, that he didn't even understand what I was saying. Here are a couple of excerpts: (His screen name crossed out, of course.)

True dat. I'll stick to my guns on this one: they should have left it at, "we're hoping to get it out in December, but it will not be released until it is ready to go." and then stuck with "before Christmas." But hey, it ain't my company.
