Bruschi To Miss Season

Tedy Bruschi, who suffered a stroke in February, will not play this season.
The Patriots announced Bruschi's decision in response to a television report Tuesday night suggesting the opposite. Bruschi himself has mentioned gearing up for a possible return in 2006. The Patriots are thin at middle linebacker, and will rely on free agents Monty Beisel and Chad Brown heavily. They could re-sign Roman Phifer. Jul. 20 - 5:25 pm et

Not surprising. I would have been shocked if he did play this year.

Edit: I hope his recovery continues to go well.

Ah well. He could retire tomorrow and history in New England will show him as one of the greatest sporting legends of New England ever, I think. He embodied the soul and attitude of that team for nearly 10 years and accepted peanuts in pay to stick around. Just wait until the ovation this guy gets opening night, it'll be crazy.

I honestly don't know what he is thought of outside of the north east though. He's the one guy on defense I wouldn't want to lose.

He's absolutely been the heart and soul of the Patriots throughout the current run. Brady's the public face, and obviously a huge part of the team's success as well, but it's really always come down to defense for the Pats, and Bruschi's been the man - practically a defensive coordinator on the field. This'll be a huge loss, but I'm glad he's sitting out - It'd be horryfying to watch anytime he stayed down for an extra second or two after a hit.

Is it just me or does anybody else think that he won't play another down of football again. I would think he shouldn't.

Agreed, to me, he has been the essence of the Patriots for the last few years.

I wholeheartedly agree with you. As much as it pains me to think that I may have seen the last of one of my favorite Patriot, I also think it would not be reasonable to expect him to make a comeback.

I'll definitely miss seeing him on the field this Fall... Best of luck to him in his recovery...

I also agree. I don't know the details of his "small stroke" but from the limited information that I've read, I don't think he should play football again. I know that if he does, I'll be cringing everytime he is involved in a big hit.

Same here. I'd much prefer to see him ride off into the sunset with his Super Bowl rings and most of his central nervous system still intact.

I would think Kraft would steer him towards retirement. He'll be missed. You can't replace the big plays in big spots. Guys like him don't come along too often.
