YOU PEOPLE HAVE IT ALL WRONG!
in honor of my 1st thread title/post that i ever posted here (this is going back to pre-FOFC days when we were known as "The Sideline"), i felt this was the right way to announce the following news, as in a "everything comes full circle" type thing:
A.J. Casso, 7 lbs 8 oz, 20 1/2 inches, born 9:14am today. yes, there's now two of us. |

oh, and mom and baby are doing great. i'm posting from home cuz i pretended i was tired, but i actually spent the last hour or so painting the baby's room and decorating it to surprise my wife tomorrow at the hospital when i show her the pics. she earned it, after undergoing an unexpected c-section due to AJ replicating his dad's famous "cord wrapped around the neck tightly, thereby preventing a natural birth" routine. us Anthony Casso's like to make our entrance in the most dramatic and memorable way possible. so anyway, Mrs. Hell Atlantic is gonna be one real happy and surprised momma tomorrow.

Seriously congratulations.

its done. one more coat tomorrow morning, then i buy the nautical sailboat bedding from babies r' us, buy a really sweet replica of a sailboat and a cape cod-esque lighthouse lamp and try to nab some nautical flags to spell out "A.J.C" in nautical flags, and i'm fucking done. if the Mrs. can undergo serious surgery such a c-section when she was adamant about going natural, but quickly put down her reservations when it was apparent going natural very well may harm the baby - if she could do that then the least i can do is stay up for an extra couple of hours despite sporadic periods of 20 minute naps as she was in labor yesterday. women can nag, but witnessing their inner stength up close (and i knew the Mrs. was strong from within long ago), putting on a brave face while doctors open you up, move around your organs and retrieve a tiny human from your body - i have more admiration now. whatever little thing i do re: the baby's bedroom is just a minor divergence from her great display of strength and courage. for those interested, the following are what the nautical flags would look like for the initials "A.J.C.": |

i was talking to him while i was holding him, asking if he recognized my voice - i used to say things to him by pressing my mouth to my wife's womb to make sure he heard my voice as clearly as possible - and i swear (i can understand the doubt), but i swear he was looking at me as if he heard my voice before. kinda like "i don't know you, but bugger me if i haven't heard that voice countless times before".
i was always very neutral on whether i wanted a boy or girl - i prayed every nite for his health. a healthy baby was of the highest utmost priority to me in life for the last 9-10 months. i don't believe in God but i prayed anyway, if He does exist He truly answered my prayers. but anyway, we asked the nurses what sex the baby was when they pulled him out of my wife, and they said "it's a boy" and i started to cry. there's a small, tiny tiny little part of every man who's going to be a 1st time dad that would like to have a boy, you know, the "i don't care what sex it is, but boy howdy wouldn't it kinda be just a little nice to watch football games with a son" little whisper of a voice that we all have that prefers a boy over a girl by .0000001%, that part of me got emotional. hey, i'm not a monster. cut me - and i'll bleed. anyway, off to bed. i will resume my xbox live playing tomorrow nite, fathers/husbands aren't allowed to stay overnite at the hospital. My wife had to have an emergency c-section as well and I stayed with her (she'd never been high and thought she was dying) for a couple of minutes and we listened to our baby cry. When the doctor called us over, the boy was wailing away like a banshee. I said "there's my guy" and he immediately stopped crying. I'd talked to him daily even before the books said he'd be able to actually hear me, but was still amazed that he knew who I was. Congrats, man. Ronan is 9 months old now, and I'll tell ya: It's been the best 9 months of my life. I don't know if you're a 1st time dad, but man...there's just nothing else like it. Enjoy!!! |
