iPhone Clones
Anyone have any experience with them...I know most of them aren't 3G..(I run my iPhone with 3G off most of the time to conserve battery life)
Reason I asked, I cracked the glass on my iPhone 2 weeks ago and I am not wanting to buy a new one, send it into Apple, etc... I am trying to be honest with this, I can go the lost or stolen route and just pay the deductible on my phone...

How much do you pay a month for the insurance?

It covers all 4 phones on my plan, I think it's around $3 to 5

Are you sure that covers iPhones... I thought most the Smartphones aren't covered under insurance with ATT. |

The Lost / Stolen phone aspect it does...the damage one it doesn't...hence why Lost / Stolen is the only route I can go if I choose to...

That's so stupid, it should just cover them both. I mean, if it broke, I'd throw it away, so it's lost now anyway... |

AT&T's 3G network is pretty shitty so I wouldn't use that as a deciding factor. In many parts of the country, including Chicago, their Edge network is better.

Exactly, which is why I am thinking a clone might be a better investment for me.

Don't get an LG Incite.
You will want to throw it out the window. Trust me. Totally non-functional touch screen. |

Co-worker of mine dropped his iPhone and the glass shattered into hundreds of cracks. He took it into a local Apple store and they gave him a new replacement, no charge. If you have an Apple store within a reasonable driving distance, it'd be worth taking it in and seeing if they'd do the same for you.

I don't know if it makes a difference, but apparently they can replace broken screens on-site at the Apple store now, for $199, or for free if you had the warranty..

My contract with AT&T is over next month, so I was thinking of getting an Incite when I signed a new contract. Aside from the IPHone, is there any AT&T phones that are touchscreen and have WiFi?

I dunno, for all I know you may love the Incite. The screen is too small, the touch screen is not particularly fun to use. I abhor having to use a Stylus to do anything. I read some reviews, and they were favorable, which i really find hard to believe, but whatever. I could mainly just be having issues with our awful work software. Not to say that you're the type to text while driving, but I would find it impossible to check a text at a stop light, let alone make a call while driving. To me it's pretty much the opposite of user friendly. I may just be spoiled by my Blackberry storm, too. |

The HTC Fuze and Touch HD are great phones, use Windows Mobile and such...I went with the iPhone for the apps alone.

I suspect you actually rely on yours to earn you money. I just like to check emails, and stuff like that. It has it's frustrating moments, but it's not like I could go trade it in for a Tour or Curve even if I wanted to. |

I have a HTC Touch Pro and I'm pretty happy with it, but I've only had it for about a month so I don't have enough time with it to give a good comparison with some other smart phones. It runs Windows mobile, has wifi and cell internet, and has a touch screen that's pretty. I like the interface well enough tho it sucks batteries like there's no tomorrow but from what I understand, that's true of most. (I miss my little Palm Centro which could go for about a week between battery charges) SI

If I were a more hardcore user, I might need to invest in one of those battery-powered portable iPhone/iPod chargers. |

IMO, the way things are looking, it may be best to get a run of the mill phone and use good old pencil 'n paper until the US's 3g, 4g (etc.) network matures some. In Europe the 3g is much further along and more advanced than ours, so it seems to me it'd be best to 'hang tight' and see where things are going with our cell phone tech/market before committing.
