College Football Week 7 discussion

What a weekend of football! Hopefully this weekend is just as entertaining. Here's the Top 25 matchups this weekend, with two of them being between Top 10 teams:

Auburn at Mississippi State
Mississippi at Texas A&M
TCU at Baylor
Oregon at UCLA
Georgia at Missouri

Somthing is gurgling down in The Swamp.

Weekly presser canceled/delayed.

Rumors swirl that multiple Offensive starters may have been or are presently being arrested for "something serious"

Sounds like it is just QB Trevon Harris

Let's see where it shakes out. I certainly would rather be wrong about this.

But what Ive heard is sexual assault, occurred Saturday night after the game, at least four players are wanted in for questioning.

Victim repotedly also has "blunt physical trauma to the head and neck. May still be in the hospital."

That comes from a friend in Gainesville who covers the Gators.

That was pretty much inevitable wasn't it? Not that it shouldn't have happened in the past but it didn't. Ray Rice, Adrian Peterson... have pretty much set the standard now for incident report filed = suspension.

My message should have read "police report filed" and this seems to be the new world we are living in.

It sucks for the kid if its bullshit but if its true and that kid was in the verge of being a starting QB in the SEC (for a power program to top it off) than he has to be one a very dumb person.

I just saw this at Hawkeyenation about a new Michigan coach. Jim Tressel. What an idea for Michigan. That would be an incredible hire. The rivalry would take on a new look and Michigan would become relevant again.

Would Michigan Do it?

I'm going to Disney, and won't get to see the game on Saturday, and probably not until the following weekend. Curse you, Mickey! It's going to be a bitch avoiding scores for a week.

I hope IU can play with focus for 60 minutes. They've had issues with letting up at times.

They would never do it.

Besides Tressel is under a show-cause penalty until something like 2017, which means they'd have to wait another couple of years, I think.

Yup, 2017. He also became president of Youngstown State so I would think he's essentially done with coaching. Never say never, but he would be 64 at that time.

Crabby old coach rivalry renewal in Atlanta as Cutcliffe brings Duke to town to face Georgia Tech. Cutcliffe is just a grouchy old geezer and hates the fact he hasn't beaten Paul Johnson. Paul Johnson loves to rub that back in Coach Cut's face. Pretty entertaining press conferences this week from both of them that pretty much only a thousand or so people in the New Jersey and Silicon Valley areas will probably hear. Go Jackets.

I just like Cut as a person so much more.

I think that was cemented when he told the story of his trip up to Duke, arriving too early & wandering around campus before dawn. He sums it up by saying that he realized that he has far more in common with the janitor & other folks he met in those hours than with anyone who hired him & that he'll ever deal with in his job.

Me too Cut, me too.

The lead up to this year's Red River Shootout is much more subdued than in years past. OU is a 14 point favorite, but they were a bigger one going into last year's game. I see the game going one of two ways. A close Texas win, or a huge OU blowout. The Longhorns defense will keep things close, but the offense is going to have to show more than they have so far this season.

It will be interesting to see how much the Mississippi teams have left in the tank after last week and facing tough opponents again.

Sigh. BYU without Taysom for the rest of the season. It's going to be interesting to see how Christian Stewart handles this team. He is not Taysom. He has a better arm, is more of a gunslinger but is still mobile, just not as fast.

Our Defense has to pull their head out of their ass and stop a pass, which they made USU's QB last week look all world.

Well, what I was hoping for a good game against UCF is going to be a scary game.

I am embarrassed for my alma mater. South Florida's homecoming is this weekend, and they made up nice purple shirts for the occasion. Not sure why, given that their colors are green and gold, but whatever.

Only problem: their homecoming opponent is East Carolina. Whose primary color is purple.

They are now asking fans not to wear them to the game.

Practical joke by the intern they probably had design the shirts, or gross incompetence?

And between us, we just posted the sum total of everything I've found anywhere. (I'm amused to note that the local fishwrap has yet to post a word of it ... but the campus newspaper has the same scarce detail everyone else has)

The message board gossip is that he went all Manziel and sold his autograph to a bunch of places.

There are a fair amount of autographed items on Ebay. In fairness, I have no idea and didn't take the time to search how those results compare to other current players.

So, Gurley is suspended indefinitely for allegedly signing autographs and Winston isn't suspended at all for an alleged sex crime. Got it.

I think the NCAA is going to have a 'come to Jesus' moment much like the NFL did earlier this year. Mizzou sent DGB and Mike Dixon packing for the same thing as Winston did. If schools don't start treating these situations more seriously involving star athletes, the NCAA is going to have to take matters into their own hands.

Ummm...why is the Winston thing so misunderstood. Not defending the kid, but there wasn't sufficient evidence that he committed a sex crime. The timeline illustrates the breakdown in the accusations, yet people still want him to be punished for something that appears to have been consentual at the time, only changing to an assault later.

I get the guy does A LOT of stupid stuff, but if you take away the accusation of sexual assualt (that there was not enough evidence to support that charge), then the worst thing he's done is shop lift (which he was suspended for).

Also, just to clarify a bad report on the part of the media. Winston did not stand on a table and utter the vulger Internet meme. He was actually walking between classes with a group of friends. It was not a look at me moment, it was a joke between friends that was too loud and overheard by too many bystanders, but the truth be damned when the media can make a sensational story about a Heisman winner with a checkered past due to the sexual assualt claim.

Yeah, if you read the police report, I think you could pretty quickly come to understand why there were no charges against Winston.

Agreed, but even if you don't like the kid, and given your allegence to Clemson I'm assuming you don't, those things listed above are pretty minor in the world of college kids.

I never said he was above reproach, just stated that his actions are viewed much worse than they should be because of the sexual assault accusation.

Actually at first I really did like Jameis.
When he went on his "If you ever see me acting like Johny Manziel slap me in the face rant" - I thought he was bold, refreshing and unique.

The more I watch this show unravel, I have a VERY different opinion of him than you. I seriously wonder if he isn't at least a borderline sociopath. Or at least has no perspective beyond his own nose.

I would agree that individually none of these actions (other than the alleged rape) are major issues on their own. Added together and then listening to his explanations, "I forgot to pay for the crab legs."..."I wasnt pointing this pellet rifle at that girls I was squirrelu hunting and didnt even see her"...
and then you add in his enabling ass dad, "This is all FSU's fault. When you have a star like Jameis he needs and escort at all times, even when he sleeps, to keep him out of trouble."

Then I think the whole picture is pretty troubling. Like maybe Chris Farley troubling. From a 1,000,000 miles away it is obvious there are issues there. But no one is going to challenge them.

CU,

Just to clarify. I don't condone, much less support anything he has done. I believe there are some underlying issues (though sociopath might be a bit strong), I just wanted to point out that minus the sexual assault allegation, there are probably 1000s of College Football players who have done things as bad or worse than Jameis that you never hear about. He is just tainted by that one incident that makes the rest of the stupid stuff look much worse.

I hope the issues are a maturity thing and he grows out of them. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if he continues to do stupid stuff and is constantly in trouble of some sort.

Interesting ending to the WSU Stanford game/

WSU with the ball down 10 with just over 2 minutes to go. The QB is hobbling a bit after being beat up for 4 quarters. Leech calls 3 conservative play calls, uses no timeouts and then punts.

Nothing too unusual so far.

Then when Stanford gets the ball WSU starts using their TOs but not stopping Stanford. Allowing Even calling a TO on a first and goal with ~1:15 to go. Stanford runs up the gut for a "clinching" TD.

Ok so what makes this ending so interesting?

The line was WSU +16. Stanford covers thanks to the last second TD that WSU allowed, if not encouraged...
