The Big Bang Theory

Searched and did not see a thread on this yet...

So am I the only one watching this show? I absolutely love it and it has entered my sitcom (shows not science, history or sports related for lack of a better category) rotation which is very sparse including The Office, Daily Show, Colbert, the newly added Demetri Martin show, and the occasional South Park. I was ecstatic to see that it just got renewed for seasons 3 and 4.

Needless to say Sheldon makes the show. Reminds me of Stranger in a Strange Land somewhat if it had been a comedy. I also like the little "Chuck Lorre Productions" blurbs at the end of the shows - a neat touch.

Highly recommended for nerds.

My wife and I watch it and we have several friends who watch it too. Hilarious. I can't recommend it highly enough.

Wolowitz for the win.

I agree, Sheldon does make the show.

But Wolowitz is THE SWORD MASTER!

I DVR this show and enjoy it, but there are too many other shows on Mondays that I love more. I usually end up watching it each week at some point later in the week.

you're not the only one watching it - we had been slowly taking over the "How I Met Your Mother" thread.

Love this show. It's a must-watch for me every Monday night. Monday nights are actually really stacked and because of that I've ended up bumping Chuck (and usually trying to watch it online) in favor of watching BBT & HIMYM and dvr-ing House at the same time.

Monday nights for me I essentially am belly-laughing from the second this show starts all the way through 2.5 Men. It's great - I actually look forward to it all weekend.

I liked last night's - guess we'll be seeing a couple more episodes with the girl upstairs - maybe that'll push Penny to make more of a move on Leonard again. You could see it in the laundry room confrontation, the whole "these guys are...special. Don't..." thing.

I'm not much of a TV guy, but since we had our baby 6 weeks back we've caught a couple episodes of this show and really enjoyed it. I actually just completed the download of Season 1 overnight and am looking forward to watching them.

I also like the show that follows, Gary Unmarried starring Jay Mohr.

It is truly a quality show. Great writing and the chemistry of the cast is top notch. My wife and I were tipped off to it by a friend at the beginning of this season, and we've now caught up on the season 1 episodes. It's a great way to bust the Monday blues.

I was talking with someone else about this and I think CBS is really the smartest of the networks in this regard - Monday night is a great time for sitcoms, and they seem to be the only one that realizes it. After having to go back to work and longing for the weekend and getting bummed it's so far away it's great to sit down to a sitcom and laugh and smile and bust the Monday blues. I would presume someone's done plenty of focus groups or research showing that this is the case, but I gotta think it's a significant factor in the success of CBS Mondays.

I loved the part last night where Penny was down in the laundry room talking to the other girl and she started talking about "shields" and Star Trek and then was like "wait...where'd that come from" and totally had like an "OMG" moment

When I first started watching this show I was kinda "meh" Penny, but now I'm all "berrr-chikka!"

Yes, it's one of the best shows on TV, BBT and HIMYM are the best comedies on TV at this time. Period. We watch these and then we watch Chuck on DVR and my Mondays and the rest of the week are set after that.

Definitely Penny.

We are huge fans of Monday night TV. As someone mentioned, CBS hits the jackpot on Monday. Comedy night to help you unwind from a Monday. I also like Rules of Engagement a lot.

Rules of Engagement has been a good show too. Love David Spade, and the big oaf-ish guy is hilarious.

This show has got some new writers or something because I find it much better than last year. "Puddy"'s character is a riot. Of course, everytime I'm laughing my wife is thinking his character is like me.

i agree - i wonder if it has gotten some new writers or what...but it's damn hilarious now too. pretty much 2 solid hours of gut-busting laughter

This is the same way I got onto it. I had basically not watched any regular TV for years. But our second child was colicky and eventually while I was rocking him for hours I started flipping on the TV. Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother were much needed laughs at that time. They got me back into sitcoms. These days 30 Rock is rocking my world though, I've gotten a bit tired of the Big Bang premise.

I really like it, though I get annoyed when it falls into the classic TV "oh my god those NERDS are so NERDY" bit.

As opposed to the oh so chic "We're the cool nerds"?

Nah, I'm not being clear. To reiterate, It annoys me when the shows fall into the the whole premise that being smart is a social defect. Ie, I think there's a difference between laughing with them and laughing at them. Despite the basic premise of this show, I think we're doing more of the former than the latter, which I like. Does that make sense?

Since I don't watch scripted TV anymore, I've never seen this show outside of the incessant commercials I was deluged with when it first premiered. But what I got out of that was not very funny, TBH. The one guy (the guy who wasn't on Rosanne) seemed to be "acting" as if he was reading one-liners off a cue card. Kinda like the old fat chick on 2.5 Men - again, another show I've never seen but only been subjected to through syndication commercials - who would knock down the obvious sexual innuendo set-ups from the guys with a snappy one-liner. Completely turned me off of it. But then, I've been on an anti-sitcom thing for several years, so maybe it's the form of the show and not necessarily this particular show that bothers me.

Great show!

My sitcom watchlist is Big Bang, the Office, and HIMYM. I still like the Office the best, but Big Bang is gaining on it. Love Sheldon and Walowicz (sp?) -- I think Sheldon is one of the better characters on TV right now.

good episode last night - and i like the fact that it seems like they are going to leave us with a Penny/Leonard moment in the season finale, bring some of that tension back
