LotR: Risk
I've only played actual Risk once, but the LotR edition was for sale at Wal-Mart for $10Cdn... I couldn't pass that up, and after skimming the rules, it sounds fun.
Just wondering if anyone has ever played this version of Risk? |

I have played it...I have to say, I quite like it. The timed element of the game adds a cool element.

I'm not a big fan of it, as I felt that the LOTR content was pasted on and it didn't feel thematic enough. But then again I'm a pretty serious boardgamer and any game with that much dice rolling is going to be a problem from the start. There is a game called War of the Ring which is a much better treatment of this, it's 2 player only and is a light wargame.

I got it for X-mas 1 1/2 yrs ago. I've played it 3 times. It is just Risk afterall. Not a bad buy for you though

Yah, that is a good point...it is good for Risk...
If you want a serious war boardgame, there are better options.

I think that the Risk:2820 (or whatever year it is) is the best Risk variant, I found the post-apocalyptic setting pretty interesting and the commander actions add some spice.

Also Peregrine, not too hard. And yes, War of the Ring is an excellent game, I wish I could play it more often, only been able to once so far.

I saw it at Origins a couple weeks ago and they had a mega-board with scale miniatures. Had one person "general" each side and gave others their own units/armies... interesting... Was supposed to play, but Avalon Hill had a play-it/take-it going on... -Chas |
