Cold Air Funnels?

This just came up for our local weather:

... COLD AIR FUNNELS POSSIBLE THIS AFTERNOON...

ATMOSPHERIC CONDITIONS ARE FAVORABLE FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF FUNNEL CLOUDS THIS AFTERNOON. THESE TYPES OF FUNNEL CLOUDS TYPICALLY LAST LESS THAN A FEW MINUTES AND RARELY TOUCH THE GROUND AND BECOME TORNADOES... BUT IT IS STILL POSSIBLE.

THE ATMOSPHERIC CONDITIONS THESE FUNNELS ARE DEVELOPING IN DO NOT SUPPORT STRONG... DAMAGING TORNADOES. HOWEVER... ON RARE OCCASIONS THESE FUNNELS CAN BRIEFLY TOUCH THE GROUND AND PRODUCE MINIMAL DAMAGE.

Has anyone ever heard of this phenomenon?

We had one or two develop in Bismarck when I was there. They are very weak when compared to normal tornadoes but look pretty similar. The ones that I saw only briefly touched down and caused more of a stir than any damage.

The fam and I drove through Western Indiana on 74 this afternoon and the clouds were very strange looking. It actually made for some interesting scenery for once.

I've seen weak little water spouts on Lake Erie quite often, I wonder if these cold air funnels are similar.
