Rookie Coaches get no respect!

Bucs QB Pick? Likely, It's Leftwich
Bucs QB Pick? Likely, It's Leftwich - NFL - Yahoo! Sports

Expect an announcement Saturday from Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Raheem Brock in which he discloses the winner of the team's quarterback competition.

Byron Leftwich(notes) and Luke McCown(notes) have been vying for the job. According to the St. Petersburg Times, Brock is leaning toward Leftwich. However, he refused to disclose his pick to the Times on Friday.

Neither quarterback was particularly sharp in Thursday's exhibition against the Miami Dolphins, the team's third preseason game. Based on that that game, Leftwich has an edge. He was 9-of-17 passing for 100 yards and converted on 4-of-8 third-down plays. McCown was 5-of-11 for 38 yards, was sacked twice and was called for intentional grounding.

Leftwich has more starting experience as well.

The team's third quarterback is set. First-round pick Josh Freeman(notes) will spend the season holding a clipboard barring injury to Leftwich and McCown.

Brock's comments Friday to the Times further the notion he is leaning toward Leftwich.

"If Byron Leftwich is your selection, (it's because of) his leadership, the fact that he's won 12 games in this league before, the fact that he's a big, strong-armed guy that can make all the throws. … He has the savvy, has the toughness, (is) mentally sharp, (has) all the qualities that you look for in a quarterback.

"If Luke is your choice, you're talking about a young man that's hungry, that's waited his turn. You're talking about a guy who's been in the background for years. He's always been the bridesmaid. (He) wants to go out there and make some decisions. (He) can make plays with his feet, can make all the throws. Is a leader, sharp, detailed, and he works his butt off. He's one of the hardest workers on our team."

For those of you that are unsure, the Bucs rookie head coach is Raheem Morris.
