Team A has ball on their own 30 yard line. Team A attempts to pass, but it is intercepted by Team B at the 50. Team B returns the interception 10 yards before fumbling the ball. Team A recovers the football on their own 40 yard line. Flag on the play: Roughing the passer on the defense.

Sort this out, please.

Roughing the passer negates all the other calls I believe. Team A has the ball on their 45(first and 10)?

Unless the ball was intercepted before the infraction occurred. Then it's Team A's ball on the other teams 45?

As I recall, the QB becomes a regular player once an interception occurs. You can only rough the passer when he's, well, a passer. If he's picked off and gets blocked / shoved during the INT return, he's fair game.

So if it's a legit roughing the passer call, it's all nullified, team A ball from I *think* the original line of scrimmage + 15 yards.

Roughing the passer was called during the act of passing.

Since B fouled before the INT (i'm assuming) they do not keep the ball. You can't have a change of possession with "dirty hands". Ball goes back to the previous spot, tack on 15 and an automatic first down. If there had not been a change of possession, you tack it on from the end of the run.

Sweet. I love referees. I saw a similar play where the penalty yards were tacked on to the end of the play. Same referee I had a problem with last season.

I know better, you know better, but apparently this referee knows more than all of us together.

That is true but if the QB is not in the play, for example the ball is 40 yards down field and a returning team player just pounds the QB, you can call an unsportsmanlike. But at that time B would retain the ball.

What if Team B intercepts at the 50, the returning team(B) gets called for a personal foul on the return, and then fumbles and A recovers on their 40?

Tack on 15 from the end of the run. First and 10 for A on B's 45.

Exactly what I came into here to post...

But with no FOFC access from work anymore, I'll need mine mailed.
