Eastern Washington tells Boise State to kiss their ass

Well, kind of:

Tennessee Titans OT Michael Roos is donating 500K to help EWU put in the first ever red turf field ever.

.. Yikes.

I want to see a pitch black field.

I think Roos needs to chip in a few more bucks to sponsor a study to determine whether staring at that for 3 hours damages your retina.

I definitely hope this trend continues. White would be awesome also.

Which would be...a pitch-black pitch.

Shit - maybe the entire football filed could be a giant screen showing Avatar in 3-D, during the game.

It gets really hot in Cheney in the summertime. I wonder what the difference in temperature is between red and green turf.

I hate this trend. Looking at Boise's blue turf strains the eyes. Thankfully E. Washington isn't an FBS school so I'll probably never have to look at their turf...

I wonder how the football will stand out against it. Contrast / visibility issues?

Maybe it's a situation where the field is incredibly distracting and all of the EWU players are wearing special contact lenses that filter it out. Brilliant.

This thread caused me to learn something: that the supposed NCAA rule banning colored turf (except for BSU under a grandfather clause) is apparently an urban myth.

Pity, and there ought to be one.

There's an AIDS quilt joke in there somewhere.

The monstrosity pictured in the first post of this thread will probably quickly bring one in.

Yup, that's indeed a myth.

So is the one about birds dive bombing into the turf thinking it's water.

Quote:
Before the hook-and-ladder, the Statue of Liberty and "Will you marry me?", Boise State's football program was known mostly for the blue artificial turf in Bronco Stadium.

According to legend, birds have flown into the blue turf, mistaking it for water. This has never been confirmed, although Petersen said, "We do our best to perpetuate that myth, so to speak.

"But the other day, before we leave, I walk out onto our turf and there is a dead duck laying there in the middle of our field. And I'm looking around like 'Are you kidding me?' Maybe they are still dive-bombing here. So I'm not sure, but we did have one dead on the turf the other day."

Upon hearing this, Oregon is believed to have politely ended negotiations for a home-and-home series with the Broncos.

Doubt it. I can't imagine they'd get enough votes to pass legislation on that and at what level? Meh. Most schools would never think to do it anyway, the few that would are just using it as a way to stand out and if Oregon can have 1000 different jerseys, I doubt the NCAA cares about fields.

We're not talking about the NFL here.

Dark green turf. Neon lines & numbers that will burn your retinas out. Then end zones with a metal-like finish and/or mean feathers, just to show how tough they are.

What a horrific idea. I'm wondering though if Red would repell more light than green, or absorb more. All I know is the RoyGBiv thing, and Red is obviously farther up the spectrum than green.
