New text football sim

Links | Barcode Games

Has quite a bit of promise. You can download the demo and play a couple of seasons.

I've been helping Brooks, the sole developer, by giving him a lot of bug reports and suggestions.

I don't know if the game will ever amount to anything serious, unfortunately. I think the basic model he uses for ratings is broken. In general I get a "blah" feeling from the game. There's nothing distinctive about it that makes it worth the money. FOF is better than it in just about every aspect.

I sure like the interface more than FOF But too bad there is no in game play just a strategic layer really.

I was drawn in by the interface (much nicer than FOF) but you guys are right. The gameplay isn't there.

It is first-gen, after all. I've liked all that I've seen thusfar. Much easier to get around than any other football sim I've ever played. He's been quick to add things.

Um ... might want to rethink you sig. Those links go to places that are not appropriate to this site, and may get you in trouble.

I tried PM'ing you this, but it gave me an error when I tried, so I have to post it here. Sorry.

Yes, TSW was stolen from us by porn folks. I'll IM him.

And for those who are interested in this, Brooks has been using TSW as a testing ground. He added USFL setups at Cooley's request, and Cooley is running an online test league with them right now.

I'm with this as well. I've given some feedback on the (high-level) stat output it generates so far and a few quirks to iron out.

It really has some great potential from what I see. Just needs some under the hood work...and I dont mean that in a "give me every conceivable option ever" type of way...more like getting the basic season totals more inline with NFL stats, etc. Not identical, but just a little closer. I think he can do that.

Now I just need to find some dam time to play in a MP league.

Got some updates published lately that fix issues and add in more features. If you haven't been to the site lately you should check it out.

Latest feature was CSV and Access outputs so you can generate dynamic sites. We can also use them to identifying areas of the engine that can be improved.

Mmm, ratings progress screen. I love that in Puresim Baseball, wish it was in more games.

The game was built from the ground up to be a solid online multiplayer game. So yes, anything you can set as the owner/gm/coach is exported including in-game emails, roster moves (Active -> Practice -> IR), Depth Charts for various formations, and play calling tendencies.

There are also features for setting a draft ranking so that exports as well if you can't make your league draft. Instead of a CPU pick it will go based off of your rankings.

And built in League Chat Rooms allow you to all connect while your commissioner is drafting.

Ok I misunderstood, I thought you were able to call plays and watch the game simulate in front of you.

Not right now. The engine does actually run a play behind the scenes so it would be possible to do something like that in a solo mode in a future version.

I think all of the text football sims do that now as it is. We've all wondered when someone would put together an actual online coaching module. Markus thought he had it for OOTP 6, but...that just opens up a lot of old wounds. ; )

For the record, Brooks just released a new version of FPS that includes play calling........oh, and a game viewer was added sometime back. Lots of things have changed. You owe it to yourself to check out the demo at the least.

I tried it and posted a comment in the other thread. I will post it here so that you know at least someone did check it out.

"Well it's pretty low quality + low framerate 2d play viewer. It's also not live (you sim the game then you can watch it). It is still better than just text. Attach something like that to FOF and I may never leave the house."

Don't know how well the game plays, but using USFL teams in the screenshots is a big, big plus.
