Buying a VCR

Ok, so in normal stores VCRs still cost $80+! Does anyone know a reliable place online to buy lower-cost VCRs? I still use it to tape shows (no DVR, and no digital cable either)... but to buy a replacement for $80? Seems kind of steep for that old of a technology...

its not really that old of a technology. it was only this year that DVD players caught up to VCR players in % of homes containing one.

Sorry, I mean that I can get a good DVD player that plays DivX for the same price... and I've seen combo DVD/VCR units for $120 or so... shouldn't there be cheaper VCRs out somewhere?

I've seen VCR's for 30-40 dollars. However, those are mostly brands I've never heard of that I wouldn't trust to run reliably.

And I'd imagine that DVR's haven't yet caught up.

That doesn't really make it any less of an old technology, it's just that it is one still in use since it has been around for so long.

I'd say some of the price comes from the production cost, and the preference of them having you choose a DVR or DVD player alternative.

Serious junk tho, mine broke within a year or so. My own fault, should have known better. Pretty much you get what you pay for.
