FOFC Casual Baseball

I just set up a league on Yahoo. Anyone interested? Super casual, all fun.

Draft that's set up for March 1st but can be changed to something that works for everyone. Would also be willing to do an auction draft if people are more interested in that? I would think yes...

Roster Positions:

C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, IF, LF, CF, RF, OF, Util, SP, SP, SP, RP, RP, RP, P, P, P, P, P, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN, DL, DL

Batters Stat Categories: Runs (R), Home Runs (HR), Runs Batted In (RBI), Stolen Bases (SB), Walks (BB), Total Bases (TB), Batting Average (AVG), On-base Percentage (OBP), Slugging Percentage (SLG), Extra Base Hits (XBH)
Pitchers Stat Categories: Wins (W), Saves (SV), Home Runs (HR), Walks (BB), Strikeouts (K), Earned Run Average (ERA), (Walks + Hits)/ Innings Pitched (WHIP), Total Bases Allowed (TB), On-base Percentage Against (OBPA), Quality Starts (QS)

Update: We're full! Draft is this Saturday at 8:15PM EST.

The excess of meaningless categories - pitcher triples allowed? - makes success in this league a total crapshoot.

I understand fun, but how is having categories that are basically random numbers fun?

I'm not trying to make an argument of OBP over AVG here, but come on. Pitcher Triples Allowed? That's not even a statistic. It's may as well be uniform number.

Then don't sign up. I think it will be fun to have some categories like that. It's ONE category out of 24.

Any other stats that don't live up to your standards?

I apologize...I'm sure you are just trying to be constructive. I've had a bad week so I'm sorry for taking it the wrong way.

For anyone interested, let's decide on the scoring when we have some people.

Terps, invite coming your way.

After considering what Todd said, this is what I've been thinking:

Batters Stat Categories: Runs (R), Home Runs (HR), Runs Batted In (RBI), Stolen Bases (SB), Walks (BB), Total Bases (TB), Batting Average (AVG), On-base Percentage (OBP), Slugging Percentage (SLG), Extra Base Hits (XBH)
Pitchers Stat Categories: Wins (W), Saves (SV), Home Runs (HR), Walks (BB), Strikeouts (K), Earned Run Average (ERA), (Walks + Hits)/ Innings Pitched (WHIP), Total Bases Allowed (TB), On-base Percentage Against (OBPA), Quality Starts (QS)

Thoughts?

Lathum, TK, you should have invites.

Any ideas on when the draft should be? Since it's auction, I want as many people to be there as possible. Once we have at least eight people we can vote on it or something I guess.

My suggestion would be a weeknight but not to early so that the west coasters can be here.

Agreed. The only thing that concerns me: Auction drafts take forever.

IIRC you can put a timer on each player so it ay not take much less time than a regular draft

I work second shift, but I really don't do anything at work, so I could probably do a live draft at anytime.

So...we have six people. Should I push it back and hope to get two more?

Or just roll with six. Is Monday night at 9:00 EST a good time for everyone?

Let's discuss!

Anything less than 10 teams in a full ML league is way too small. Postpone the draft until you can fill the league more.

Jets, instead of making people email you and such I would just post the league ID and password here. Also, closer to the season you may get more people, we have never had a problem filling leagues before

If it's possible to do the draft on a weekend evening, that would be significantly better for me. My bedtime is around 10 p.m. eastern on weeknights usually (I get up wicked early to go to the gym). But, if 9 p.m. eastern is better for most, I'll make it work.

I agree with Lathum, push out the draft (and the deadline to sign up) a little more, as the season draws nearer, more people will probably be interested (I hope!).

I assure you, I've almost fallen into one of my satellites while completely sober and wide awake. I was walking around one of our satellites before it had been fully integrated, helping out in some troubleshooting when my knee decided it wanted to wobble/almost give out and I think it was only luck that made it that I didn't fall right into the open hardware.

Bhlloy (how do you pronounce that, anyway??),

You have an invite headed you way.

Gang, I'm moving the draft back two weeks but let's discuss a potential weekend draft so we don't have any satellite's dropping on us.

Posting league page and password in my next post.

I have absolutely no idea It was a system assigned alias in college and I've been too lazy to change it to something more cocky and funny.

I would definitely like a weekend draft. I can't make anything before 7:30-8pm PST for the next 6 weeks and most weeknights I'm pretty much completely unavailable.

You are not allowed to view this page because you are not in this league. (Error #152)

Also, some more things to discuss:

Any opinions on divisions? I like the idea of the winner and runner-up of each division making the playoffs, but perhaps a scenario like this would piss people off:

Division 1:

Team 1 - 30-10*
Team 2 - 24-16*
Team 3 - 22-18

Division 2:

Team A - 29-11*
Team B - 28-12*
Team C - 26-14

Team C would miss even though it has a better record than Team 2.

I'm open to whatever the majority wants. Of course, the more people we have, the more people make the playoffs. I'm just tossing out ideas

10 would be better for me, because I'd be out of work at least. But I can just rank my players until I'm able to be live.
