#1 Illinois at home tonight vs. Longwood?
Hey Bruce Weber, my old H.S. team in Minnesota had a open date.

By the way, Longwood recently lost to a Division III team, they are really really bad. Illinois could play their 2 waterboys and 3 female managers and still win by 15.

It's part of the Las Vegas Holiday Classic and they have no control over who they play. They have a few more cupcakes on their schedule than I would like, but they're not like Kansas who doesn't play on the road until January.
They've already throttled two top twenty teams and two more that will likely make the dance. Coach Weber usually calls off the dogs late, but I'd still be willing to bet that they win by 40+. |

That's part of it. Mostly it's because Illinois should be unanimous #1 and Oklahoma St. should be #2. If Kansas had another name on their jersey, they'd still be in the top ten, but certainly not #2. |

ESPN did a story on Longwood. Apparently, they're a school in Virginia that wants to raise their profile and see their way to do that through D1 sports. So, they're playing a bunch of D1 teams in the hopes of getting trounced and then, getting into the Big South Conference.
If nothing else, it's great for the kids. They play in front of a ton of fans, travel the country and for a bit, get to see what it's like on the big stage. Plus, they open the door for future generations who'll come there and get smacked down too. It's all good, though I don't see what's so terrible about being DII and good, rather than D1 and horrible. Eh, stupid universities.

Well, in spite of our expectations ...
http://sports.myway.com/news/12272004/v8517.html CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) - For 30 minutes against top-ranked Illinois, Longwood looked like a contender, not a team with only one victory this season. The Lancers cut a 13-point halftime deficit to seven on Monday night and were down by only eight, 73-65, when the Illini finally buckled down with 9:13 to go. "We knew we weren't playing with any energy, not playing hard, and they were just getting too many easy baskets," said Deron Williams, whose 3-pointer ignited a deciding 16-0 run to lead the Illini to a 105-79 victory. The Illini (12-0) held Longwood scoreless for nearly four minutes and built their lead to 98-71 with three minutes remaining. Both teams now head to Las Vegas for two games later this week as part of the Las Vegas Holiday Classic. Longwood meets No. 22 Cincinnati and Valparaiso. Illinois faces Northwestern State on Thursday and Cincinnati on Friday.
