Buzzbee, I enjoy reading your reports more than I use them. During the regular season tweaking the GP before each game has become less attractive. Making 4 game ajustments is easier, but I think you would have a hard time giving us info for that.
Since the "scouting" idea, you have taken the bull by the horns and become a very capable Assistant GM. The front office tag team has done a great job of moving us along. I find that much more valuable than the in-(regular)season scouting reports. I guess what I am saying is the reports a fun to read and add flavor, but I have not made good use of them during the regular season.

I agree to a point. I really like reading the scouting reports. After I got my legs under me with the defense, I found that there were a few key variables that I could change based on your report that affected the game but did not take too much time to implement (blitz percentage, nickel/dime percentage, aggressive run, and aggressive pass). I suspect that, over time, I will get to the same point with the O.
So, in short, I find them fun and useful. However, if you would like to pare them down and keep what is useful, the information that I can see being the most helpful to me is: 1.) Are they easier to run against or to throw against? 2.) What directions should I avoid running toward? Thanks. |

Thanks for the feedback guys. I suspected as much, which is one reason I wanted to pare them down. I may try a new format this year. A Nuts N Bolts section which will give the info that might result in minor game plan tweaking (offensively if they Pass vs. Rush, have one great receiver vs. several average ones, if the QB is really good or really bad; and defensively - yards rushing allowed, yards passing allowed and what holes we might want to trend our running game toward).
Then below that might be a Flavor section which highlights star players or good performers. This would be more for entertainment and immersion purposes. It would also justify the case of Tequila in my budget.

SCOUTING REPORT: Bermuda Barons
Meat and Potatoes: Offense They are well balanced. They seems to mix up the pass and the run. The offensive line has all around blockers with a little weakness at the tackles. QB and WR's are adequate. RB's are above average. Thoughts: No tweaks needed. Play 'em straight up. Defense The defensive line is pretty good at stopping the run. The exception is RDE which is more of a pass rush specialist. MLB is STOUT against the run, OLB's are more geared toward defending the pass and aren't that good against the run. LCB is a shut down corner. Average depth otherwise at the CB position. The safeties are very good in stepping up to stop the run. Also good in pass coverage, but not many interceptions. Thoughts: Use a balanced running game to keep them honest with a slight shift toward off tackle runs and sweeps. Normal passing game.

SCOUTING REPORT: Ft. Wayne Pistons
Meat and Potatoes Offense They have two good QB's, but not a lot of talent at WR. A very good, and deep, OL should give the QB time to throw and open some big holes for the backs. This will be a mismatch in the trenches. At RB Rookie Kendrick Poff seems to be a very talented back. However, he is slotted as #2 behind another, seemingly less talented Rookie Leslie Poston. Thoughts: Our corners should be able to cover the WR's, but the OL will give the QB's time to complete some passes. The running game is unknown. Defense: The D-Line is lopsided. The left is good against the run but not at pressuring the QB. The right is the opposite. The LB's aren't anything special. Decent against the run and worse against the pass. They are thin at CB and aren't very good. We should be able to pass against them. The SS is easily the best player on a somewhat below average D. Thoughts: The offense should roll on talent alone. Stick with the gameplan because we should be able to move the ball.

SCOUTING REPORT: Texarkana ArmaDILDOS
Meat and Potatoes Offense QB is an aging and fading star. Still has some skill, but will be using a walker next year. Has some pretty good receivers to throw to. Running Backs seem pretty weak. Offensive line is very balanced pass/rush blocking. Even talent with ratings around 50 for most. Center is the strong position. Thoughts: I expect them to pass with the QB and receivers. O Line could open some holes, but I don't expect the backs to be able to get through many. Defense Interior Defensive Line is VERY weak. DE's are good at stopping the run, average otherwise. Good Linebacking group with SLB being the star. LCB is very good, but they are thin at CB and have no depth. SS is very good. FS is very bad. Thoughts: Power running game will challenge the linebackers. Passing game should be somewhat successful, especially on passing downs when they bring in scrub nickel and dime backs.

SCOUTING REPORT: Champaign ChevyNovas
Meat and Potatoes Offense They have a VERY good QB and a VERY good RB. The receivers have some talent but they are very thin there (3). The offensive line is anchored by the 5 year in a row All League 2nd team tackle. Otherwise the line is average. WIth a good QB and a good RB, but not much at receiver, I don't know if they'll run or pass. Defense The defense is overall...pretty weak. They've got superstars at WLB, and the safety positions. Other than that they are average to below average. The D Line is pretty good agains the run, but not much else. They NEED great safeties with these guys.

Nice start to defending the title. Fritz was right; Song had 113 receiving. We ran the ball down their throats. However, Harden got 23 carries, Rubble got seven, and Finley only got 2. I'll have to work on that. I would like all three to be getting as close to an even # of carries as possible. Perkins on the D made a name for himself with two interceptions. The D also held them to 52 rushing yards. Francis--2TD, no INT. All in all--a sweet game. |

We are holding opposing O's to around 50% completion percentages--very nice. Song was, again, a monster. 194 yards receiving. Finley had 103 yards on 7 carries. I'll try to get him the ball more. Perkins got another INT. We were in the red zone 4 times and came away with 4 FG. I'll have to keep an eye on that. |

They completed 22 of 29 passes--that really hurt us. Song was again Song--161 yards receiving. Despite my tweakage--Harden still got the lion's share of the carries--and averaged less than 4 yards per. I'll tweak some more. Rubble only got 3 carries. These are less fun to write after a loss. |

Francis is out for a few weeks. LeGrande played in his place (I forgot to put Sparks in as backup). He did not play half-bad, but not well enough to win. Finley and Rubble split the load carting the rock. I still have to work on getting all three backs involved. Harden barely touched it this time. Our passing D held them back around 50%. Since it is time to post the files anyway, I'll post and we can decide tomorrow who to cut for the sake of the QB. |

I feel very superior about QBs right now....
AML: I noticed in the preseason that you had RB2 slotted in formations. I think you may have him is some "base" formations. Before running the next four Iwant to look at the game logs. I have this feeling that there are phases that are not set right yet.

AML - I think RG Jerry Johnson needs some love. He's unhappy. He is under contract for this year and next. Rufus Peterson is only under contract for this year. I think they are fairly equal and it should't hurt to swap them out.

Now there are some scouting reports!
We had this same problem last year with RG Johnson. Signed him for a longer deal and only at the last minute did we pick up Peterson, yet Peterson always plays.

I have activated CB Barton. He will go as our nickle and as the #2 PR/KR.

The guy to cut here is clearly CB Bo Cassidy.
I think QB Brant Hopper would be a fine addition. If we get that far into the QBs he can do a few things and might be worth a resign as a backup next season. Given time, he could be a decent enough career backup.

I know it is weird to keep three FB, but I think that Tejuda has done a good job blocking, and I would like to keep him.
I am fine with Hopper. Fritz: Please sub Johnson in for Peterson. A new QB will mean new formations, and a new distribution of running the ball. If, after the first game, Harden gets the lion's share of carries at Finley's expense, then please swap Finley and Harden on the depth chart. Thanks. |

Another points fest in the 4Q. I need to work on stopping that. Finley and Rubble led the ground game. Rubble had a gaudy 10 rushes for 81 yards. Sparks was doing a good job, until he shredded his achillies tendon. Out for the year. Song had a 7 catch, 2 TD, 176 yard day. (25.1 avg). He is looking like a League MVP right now. DE Sinclair had a nice 3 sack 1 hurry day. CB perkins did not get and INT but was very active.

I can IR Sparks. The next rookie FA I might take is Thomas Van Pelt. He is pure project though.

Another 4Q comeback to beat us. Sorry guys. We had ugly rushing, but tons of it. The THREE QBs we needed to win the game could not pull it together. Song Managed 152 yards though. The D held up until an 86 yard drive tied the game (after our K missed a FG). Another 80 yard drive gave them the win.

The injury Report:
Injury Report: Heath Sparks, QB - Ruptured Achilles Tendon, Out, full strength in 2024. Brant Hopper, QB - Reconstructive Knee Surgery, Out, full strength in late 2024. Ethan Francis, QB - Separated Shoulder, Out, full strength in about 3 weeks. Charlie LeGrande, QB - Strained Patellar Tendon, Doubtful, full strength in about 2 weeks. Larry Wylie, TE - Knee Tendinitis, Probable, full strength in about 4 weeks. ----- We need another QB and one of the shitty rooks will have to start.

Should we keep LeGrande active as 2nd or 3rd QB? No real loss to us if he sustains serious long term damage. I'm fine with whatever scrubs you can find at this point to fill in until Francis returns. |

thank god. Van Pelt was the MVP. 17 of 22, 313 yds, 3 TDs, 1 sack Song was held to 46 yards but jefferson went over 100. The D got 5 sacks and held TB to 65 yards rushing. Only 1 int but 7 Defnsd. ------- Le Grand and Francis are both probable, but I am making a call to leave the hot handed rook in for another week.

198 yard rushing today. Finley battered and harden cut. Van Pelt cooled a little going 14 of 30 for 187 with 3Tds and 2 Ints. Song went over 100 (and 1000 for the season) today. The D did well against a poor team limiting them to less than 200 in the air and 70 on the ground. More new injuries, some serious. Injury Report: Julio Diana, TE - Pulled Quadriceps Muscle, Out, full strength in about 6 weeks. Heath Sparks, QB - Ruptured Achilles Tendon, Out, full strength in 2024. Bart Guthrie, RDT - Bruised Ribcage, Probable, full strength in about 1 week. Ethan Francis, QB - Separated Shoulder, Probable, full strength in about 1 week. J.C. Sinclair, RDE - Strained Deltoid Muscle, Out, full strength in about 2 weeks. Daniel Finley, RB - Torn Thumb Ligament, Questionable, full strength in about 8 weeks. Larry Wylie, TE - Knee Tendinitis, Probable, full strength in about 2 weeks. Sam Upshaw, LDE - Hyperextended Elbow, Doubtful, full strength in about 2 weeks. Brant Hopper, QB - Reconstructive Knee Surgery, Out, full strength in late 2024.
