it's not really your fault, I mean, Kurtis started his private game and picked a car. I wasn't involved with it and just can't do much in picking cars anyway, since I won't have a private slot available before the FOFC game is over tomorrow anyway.

Don't know what we want to do but I felt like I had an unfair advantage when I was able to pick the McLaren in this current game and thought the draft could avoid that while giving us a long term game where it actually matters where you finish in one season...

Brillig has shown support for the idea but otherwise, I realize that the support has been lukewarm, so I'll go with whatever we want to do. I was only offering to take care of the draft and such...

It's a really tough carset when you go against experienced drivers. Everybody has at least some idea of which characteristics give the best chance to win, everbody has at least a decent strategy for getting a good setup, everybody has at least a decent idea of what sort of driving style sliders are needed to go fast enough to win. With the decrease in variation in driver skill, you become more heavily dependent on the RNG, and you can get punished badly for any aspect of your strategy that's suboptimal.

One of the most interesting things I've found with A1, lately, is this: it used to be optimal to pit relatively early, partly because it would get you clear of traffic when you were turning in good laps on green tyres. Of late, though, I've found that I can get as good or better results pitting late. I think somewhere along the line, lap times vs tyre wear got adjusted. (I may have made this observation upthread.)

It doesn't always work, I pitted later in the Brands Hatch feature race in the A1 cup and didn't get a whole lot out of it, but then again, I think I was running with my pace slider too low (low-mid 80's instead of high 80's or low 90's).

hold on, you are running pace at 80-90 and getting away with it??? What trait?

Running at 70 I was crashing all the time but lower than that, I look like grandma doing 25 on the highway, sigh...

I use committed a lot. In the A1's, I have it paired with consistent.

I'll run low-80's pace if I can get away with it, but you really need top 5 finishes to get the points, and if I'm not holding that spot when I qualify there (or moving into it when I don't) then it's time to turn up the pace.

I may be offsetting other things, too... I run with very low mech sympathy, typically no higher than 20 although I need to remember to push that higher when I'm chasing a place in the feature races.

Dola, in the Brands Hatch feature, I started 16th and finished 21st. My pit strategy probably wasn't ideal, but my setup was 99.67% and I was running high pace and still went backwards. Conclusion: pace slider isn't high enough.

Edit to add: Crashing out gives the same result as finishing 11th: no points. A retirement only concerns me when it's from a position that costs me points. Unlike in real life, I have neither my health nor the cost of my machine to worry about.

I like the Williams, been driving it as a midseasoner in the E-race career challenge and picked it again with the 10th pick. Not sure how much of a "snatch" it was, as it's not a super top car, but it is very dependable. From the moment I joined until the end of the season, I got 4th place with it in that E-Race midseason. Got rammed for a stupid DNF in the first race of the season though...

If you plan on being serious and are not simply checking out the game, I could send you the information. Eduardo Ligori, the founder of the E-Race career challenge from which my idea of a career challenge came, is still teammateless although I know he has put feelers to friends and members of the E-race community. He's a nice fellow, but as I said, a career challenge like that is based on having teammates helping out each other, so you'd need to be sure to stick for at least the season...

Either the DAX sucks in 7's, I have totally the wrong driver characteristic (doubtful considering the number of thinkers ahead of me in the driver standings), or everyone else has their sliders pegged.

How else do you explain me going backwards from 5th to 12th in the most recent race despite having a nearly spot-on setup?

I don't know much about racing either but I really like these type of games. I will read up on the game so I will not embarrass myself to much I hope.

I've done one season in LMP2, but I haven't done any research to see if one car or another tends to have more success.

I finished 2nd in the first LM series I ever ran and have had no luck since. It's been my worst series to run of all of them. But I thought I'd give it a go again.

In LMES, it's really critical to have the right pit strategy and the right pace. There's not a ton of passing or jockeying for position, and there's not a lot of SCs, so for the most part luck only comes into it in terms of making a driver error or having a mechanical.
