This is why I joined this league... I barely follow the NBA, but now John Henson is my new favorite player. Hadn't heard of him until a day or two ago. Now I regret not naming my son after him. Love it!

The league is now live! You can set up your starting lineup and anybody who wasn't drafted is on waivers until Oct 26. I had to edit the waiver order so it was the reverse of our draft order. Remember yahoo does allow you to set up your lineups at least a week in advance so if you don't want to check things daily you can still set up your daily lineup once a week.

What is the Draft Score based on? We score the draft based on total value over replacement player (VORP). Essentially, how much more value does your roster have over the players that are readily available on the waivers after your draft. The Draft Score is the sum total of fantasy points over the replacement team on the waivers. |

Will the Purple Penguins be giving everybody a free 9 points by keeping their entire team on the bench or just Quiksand in Week 1?

So, this is proving to be a deeply uninteresting experience for me. I made a few free agent moves early in the season, but at this point all i do is occasionally log in and then zombie-click my team through a few weeks of the "start active players" button.
I had thought that playing in a fantasy league might trigger some actual interest in the NBA. So far, no dice. So, are we basically doing this right? Is this setup basically what fantasy NBA is all about, and it's just not going to be for me? or are there things we could change that might make this a different sort of experience? Cash money? Weekly transactions? Ditch the head-to-head? Different sort of scoring system? |

My experience in my other basketball league is much more interesting to me than this one, and it is a "free" or "playing for pride" league as well. Two things that immediately stand out to me is that the players there are more active, and we use ESPN. The first part is not a surprise, as it is somewhat of a keeper league, and I personally know two of the other players, and I know most of the others virtually through other fantasy leagues (baseball, football). So it is possible this something that turning into a keeper league and letting things play out over time might help. But that is asking for a lot of investment. The second part is big for me. On droid products, Yahoo does not have an effective basketball app, and so I go to the site on my phone browser (work blocks fantasy sites), and Yahoo's recent re-design of its fantasy sites is a collosal screwup and not fun to maneuver around. So being on Yahoo in this league really cuts down on my research there. Fortunately, I have drafted well (or luckily), and I have been able to do well with very limited moves. In my other, more interesting league, ESPN has a very handy basketball app which makes navigating my team and setting lineups and reviewing waiver wire players much more palatable on my phone. So maybe a switch to ESPN would help in the future? I am down for spicing things up with some sort of entry fee, too, as that always helps a little at least.

Korme messaged me about renewing this for the current season. I really enjoyed the league last year, but it seems like a lot of people got bored or were uninterested. Given that opening day is a week away, I don't know if there is time to get a slow draft done. Although I suppose a live draft through yahoo is an option too.
Unfortunately,I now live in Asia so I would be unable to be commish this year and oversee this thing. If there is interest in the league and someone wants to be commish, I can renew the league in yahoo to keep the history and make the person commissioner through yahoo as well. |

I wouldn't be against playing again, but yeah, we would have to get on it quick and figure things out.

Like I said, I don't have the time to be involved or commissioner so if someone wants to step up let me know and I can set you up as commissioner on yahoo to keep the history or you guys can just start fresh. I would recommend someone starting a new thread to drum up interest.
