haven't had a chance to play it myself, but it's got a pretty decent following, and the campaign seems a lot of fun.

Okay looking for a good turn based RPG that is not too demanding on the graphics side, which is also available relatively cheap on Steam?

How far back are you willing to go? Or are you looking for something relatively new?

Darkest Dungeon ~ $14.99
Shadowrun Returns ~ $2.99
or you can get the entire Shadowrun Package that includes Dragonfall for $9.96.

If you've done GB and IWD, then Neverwinter Nights has to be asked along with Star Wars KotOR series.

Would definitely recommend the Avadon series, or the newer Avernum series (Escape from the Pit is the first one.) They are old school but really great story-filled games. The first two Avadon games are a ridiculous $3 bucks each on steam right now.

Have you played the Shadowrun games yet?

And Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky First Chapter is $9.99 right now.

Anyone else a fan of classic point and click adventures? I'm talking Lucas Arts/Sierra style. I've played all of the Police Quests, Day of the Tentacle, Monkey Island, etc. Recently played the first Gabriel Knight and have picked up a few others that I missed at the time (ie. Grim Fandango) but have yet to play.

Any recommendations on modern takes on the genre or others I may have missed?

My favorites from the last couple years:
Kathy Rain
Oxenfree
Contradiction: Spot the Liar
Her Story
Valiant Hearts: The Great War
Nelson Tethers Puzzle Agent

Others by designers of the games you mentioned:
Gray Matter
Broken Age

Classic style games I've been meaning to play:
Wadjet Eye Games
Broken Sword 5 - the Serpent's Curse
Tesla Effect: A Tex Murphy Adventure

Non traditional adventure games to check out:
D4: Dark Dreams Don't Die
Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc & Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair
VA-11 Hall-A: Cyberpunk Bartender Action
Firewatch
SOMA
Telltale Episodic Adventure Games - These are focused on story and have very little in the way of puzzles, but if your looking for adventure games like that Tales From The Borderlands, The Wolf Among Us, Walking Dead and Batman are worth playing.
Life is Strange - Like Telltale games mentioned above it's an episodic game more focused on storytelling than challenging puzzles. The first episode can be played for free if you want to try it out.

One more recommendation for games that aren't on Steam yet but will be released, the Zero Escape series. Currently Zero Time Dilemma is out on Steam but the first two in the series Nine Persons, Nine Hours, Nine Doors and Virtues Last Reward aren't yet though are coming next year. Highly recommend you okay them in order.

I swear I will finish Banner Saga, but I can't say I've enjoyed it. Feels like a massive slog to get it done, and it's not even that long.

Astroneer is EA, but it's a fun space colonization "sim" kind of thing even in it's uncompleted current state.

Hadnt seen it mentioned, so thought I'd throw a positive spin out there for it.

Chaos Reborn like $6 and some change. Stayed up way too late last night. For those that play.. you like law mode or chaos mode more?

I like them both as one is more RPG and other is RNG, so I've been playing the tutorials on both settings. Can't really come to a conclusion on which one I enjoy more. I think Chaos is a bit more difficult with more changes/decisions.

Law/RPG meaning your spell cards cost mana instead of a % that it will work/and battles are strength vs HP instead of random chances of missing

There is a playable demo as well..

Finally got this thing done in 14 hours, which seemed like 40. Way too repetitive. I mean, walk, fight, walk, talk, fight, fight, talk, walk and so on. The fighting was limited as far as strategy went, it's just that there was enough characters that I didn't care who was who or what so and so said. Then it felt like the game was just piling on at one point, when I had things under control, which is obviously by design. So that lends itself to not caring what happens. Resource balancing seemed to be weighted more toward keeping people alive rather than actually advancing their skills. The ending was open for a reason, but even with that, it didn't even come close to addressing the numerous concepts that it had opened during play.

I'm all for giving games a chance, and while I had a passing moment as it was done of, "oh maybe I was wrong," it soon faded as the credits suddenly rolled. That gave way to relief as I deleted it from my computer.

So my wife bought me the Oculus Rift without the controllers for Christmas, after some research decided to keep it rather than return for the Vive and bought the controllers(and a 3rd sensor).

Been loading up on Steam VR games. Really an incredible platform, but honestly before the touch controllers it felt like a novelty, after them it felt world changing. Oculus screwed up pretty bad being this late to the market with them, imho. They are just as critical to the immersion as the headset itself.

Sounds like I got in just in time for the Rift, controllers and 3rd sensor all became available this month and most/all Steam integration kinks have been worked out. Has all been pretty seemless.

Crypt of the Necrodancer is a SOLID pickup. Especially for you angband players.

it's a rogueclone crossed with a rhythm game so you always have to move and attack on the beat otherwise you miss money bonuses when you kill things. and monsters have different movement patterns.

Yes, I prefer the weighing of odds that Chaos entails. There is always a chance you could die if engage with or leave your wizard exposed.

Ended up getting Battle Brothers, Stardew Valley and Chaos Reborn. Thought it would just be BB, but I got the other two with less than 30 minutes to go in the sale due to reviews and feedback here.

I got FBCB and FBPB along with TEW16 from the Grey Dog sales.

Then I picked up Highborn, Orwell, Rebel Galaxy, and This is the Police in what was an otherwise fairly subdued sale season for me.

I've had it for a while but haven't played it much. I found myself playing Terraria instead for that style of game and for general sandbox game I've been playing Stardew Valley recently.

Best deal right now though is the humble monthly, for $12 you get XCOM 2 right now and 5 or 6 other games in February.
