kind of a cross between Affleck, Crowe, and a random Amish guy.

Jedidiah Crowfleck, perhaps.

Alan, that was totally offensive, as you only used 3 smilies instead of the requisite 4. For shame.

This new 'do is dedicated to my dad, who is going through chemo right now and has lost his hair.

It could also be subtitled "What in the hell have I just done?!?!?!?!"

Actually, I had just gotten finished cutting my hair and was shirtless so that I wouldn't get a shirt all hairy. At that point I had yet to clean up and shower...

Too scared? Shit, I was just worried that I was going to hurt the other players. Plus I was dedicated to refining my post moves so that I could lead UTEP to a National Championship and then have a lucrative NBA career.

Unfortunately, I found out the hard way that the best post moves in the world don't help too much when you quit growing at 6'2"...

Post moves helped me average a double double per game in my senior year of high school, my best night being about 21 points and 13 or so boards, and I'm only about 5'11".

Picture from work at the recording studio I would assume? Just out of curiosity, have you ever worked with the bands/heard of Clear Awakening or Awkward Silence? Both managed to get free recording hours at some studio in or near the cities, though I don't know which one. Just wondering.

My junior year Highlands Ranch High School had a starting five of:

a 6'11" center
a 6'9" power forward
a 6'5" small forward
a 6'4" shooting guard
a 6'1" point guard

Even with my badass hookshot, it was hard to score against those big boys. If I had stayed in El Paso I might have had a chance, but those damn Coloradans grow tall in the thin air...

You probably could have done alright in western wisconsin. My old high school went to their regional final without anyone over 6'2" getting significant playing time. There was a guy who was about 6'3" starting at center before he was finally suspended by the school board for sexual assault.

Yeah, that's ed kowalczyk from Live with the hat on. I think I posted this once before.

I haven't heard of those 2 bands. They could have gotten some time at a couple other studios around town. The studios around town tend to sponsor things with free studio time as a prize. This gets bands in the door, who wouldn't usually be able to afford a larger studio like ours. Usually they are new to the recording scene. Once they realize how hard it is in the studio, their free day, or 2 days is all used up and they have to book some more...hehe.

Did think there was much of a chance, but was just curious. One won some free recording hours in a contest at the quest, the other got free recording after some band saw them and gave them passes to warped tour and hooked them up. They were in a damn nice high end recording studio, as when they were there a grammy winning group of some sort or another (can't remember, I'm tired and don't have enough alcohol in me) was recording in another part of the studio.

Though if you'd be willing to abuse your position for my own personal gain, you'd be my hero if you got Dylan Hicks to put out a 4th album.

I love his music, couldn't careless about his writing for City Pages, and guess which one he's doing right now.

Though I find his writing for Dylanesquire hiarious:

http://www.dylanhicks.com/November_Dylanesquire.html

No Alternative decided to sally forth with the release of Alive With Pleasure, despite Hicks’ vocal complaints and repeated threats that he would “egg the No Alternative office building.” The label was prepared to hire a “ghost band” to promote the album, but Hicks has agreed to perform in support of the record. When asked if he’ll be able to give heartfelt performances of songs he has said he longer believes in, a puzzled-sounding Hicks began talking about how much he likes whales.

I know about 3 guys who worked on his last album. I will have to give it a listen.

Needless to say, I don't appreciate MOST of what is written in the city pages. Mostly the cover story aritcles and writers. Just not my view on most things, and they do a good job of letting people know that they are right in what they believe in and I am not. I will give his reviews a closer look next time though.

Alive With Pleasure is a great album. It's the only full one I have and have a few songs of Won and Poughkeepsie. His music kind of makes me think of Ben Folds, even though the two aren't all that similar. Sadly he doesn't seem as popular as I think he should be, and his website has said, "No gigs currently scheduled" for quite a while.

And I'd have to agree with you on City Pages. I'd say it's usually more out there than the Daily, which at times can be quite an accomplishment.
