I do believe he has a shot now, but earlier in the season I wouldn't have said that. Now that Witt was injured and Brewster finally had some passes go his way. He's provided about (guessing) 260 yards of total offense on the average of the past three games. The 6 TD performance against Florida probably raised his stock as well. He's going to need a great, absolute great game against both Alabama and Georgia, both on the road. If he's shut down for either, I'd say his Heisman campaign would be as well. From my study of both teams, their defenses against the run are very good. Both are in the top 20 nationally against the run. In real life, he'd be the obvious choice. Stats or no stats. It's clear he's the reason the Vols are undefeated this season; well, Brewster and our defense.

The review of game film on Sunday was interesting. My major mistake in the Vanderbilt game was throwing the INT to the linebacker, but it didn't haunt us. Next time, I'll just tuck the ball and try to get back to the line of scrimmage.
Alabama. Wow. The victory sent shockwaves through the SEC and the national scene. A top 5 undefeated team drops to Alabama. The loss puts Arkansas in a tough position. They play Georgia this week, and against LSU and Auburn as well. They're tied with LSU and Auburn in SEC play with 4-1 records. Games are getting bigger as the season rolls along. Perhaps the most interesting note is that we're not overly impressed with what Alabama does offensively or defensively. In fact, our scouting department grades only three of their players very good. They run a pro set offense, but it doesn't strike fear into our defense. It will be, however, the first time we've faced a team like that. Good news on the injury front of sorts. DT Bean appears to be doing well with his thumb. He'll practice this week, but will most likely sit out the game. TE Dominic Witt appears to be doing well with his back. He'll be at practice for the first time since his injury and is expected to contribute Saturday. What we need is CB Bart Serra back. Too bad. He's not ready.

Four, maybe five games left. 3 regular, perhaps a SEC Championship, and definitely a bowl game at this point. Alabama will be played this afternoon, but I realize it will probably be a little late for you. Hey, you'll have something to wake up to!

A packed house here at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. A match between UT and 'Bama set the record here in 1999 for attendance, and that is likely to be reached. 3,000 more than could be seated came that day, and it's likely to happen again today.
Today's game is on TV4, so some of you may get a chance to watch us. For the rest of you, it's FOFC Radio. The weather is nice. It's 74 degrees, and just a great day for football. I'm alerted we've won the toss, and we will receive. The Tide kicker sends the ball down to Brewster, and we're underway.

Brewster fields the kick about 6 yards deep and brings the ball out. It was a mistake; he's taken down at the UT16.
There's an injury on the field, however. Oh no, it's #95, TE Dominic Witt, seeing his first action since he injured his back in our 5th game. It looks bad; I hope he's ok. We weren't counting on him to start, but his depth would have been nice. "Power I left, Split left, double fade. On 1, on 1", and we head to the field. We hope to surprise the Tide with a deep ball on 1st down. Alabama shows us a 50 defense, but we expected that. I take the snap and drop back, screams of pass come from everywhere, and I'm reminded I'm playing my first road game in four weeks. WR Steven Everett appears open and I lob the ball in his direction. Everett goes up for the ball and makes the catch. He's tackled immediately, and the play goes for a gain of 19. "Power I left, split right, 28 toss, on 1, on 1, ready break!" The huddle breaks and we run toss left. Brewster is stopped for no gain, however. Back to the air. Play action style. "Power I left, split right, 228 toss, fly. On 1, on 1, ready, break!" We come out and fake the toss, complete with pulling guard. Brewster is tackled, and then screams erupt of pass. I come out of the fake toss, hunched over and now reveal the ball in my hands as I have bootlegged to the right. No pressure on me, and no one relatively close to Everett, I lob the ball and let him run under it. He's tackled 8 yards after the catch, but it goes for a gain of 40 yards!! 1st down, TENNESSEE!! Ball on the Tide 25 yard line. Brewster goes off left guard for 2, and then takes another pitch left for 5. 3rd and 3, and my slant pass to Everett is tipped away. 4th and 3 on the Tide 18; kicker Ray Alston and the FG team come out. It'll be a 35 yard attempt, and Alston nails it. 11:19 left in the 1st; Tennessee 3, Alabama 0.

Alston puts the kickoff in the endzone for a touchback, but Alabama's offense apparently isn't inspired. For the first time I can recall, our defense forces a team to go 3 and out on their opening drive.
The 34 yard punt is fielded by Brewster, who calls a fair catch at the UT 40 yard line. 9:22 left in the 1st quarter. Brewster goes up the middle for 3 yards, and then again for another yard. When one of our linemen gets thrown to the ground after the play is over, Alabama gets flagged for a personal foul, and it gives us a 1st and 10 at the Bama 41. A counter to the left nets 5 for Brewster, but he's stopped for no gain up the middle on 2nd down. 3rd and 5; Mason in the game. Mason motions out, and the pass is intended for him. An Alabama LB reads the play perfectly, and picks off my pass. Mason tackles him quickly, but it's Alabama's ball at the Bama 25. 7:11 left in the first; Tenn 3, Bama 0.

Alabama completes a 30 yard pass on the first play after the turnover, but can't move the ball afterward. A 5 yard penalty forces a punt from the 50, which travels 40 yards. Brewster took the punt and returned it 7 yards, but comes off the field limping a bit.
No Brewster? No problem. That's what I tell myself as we head onto the field. Our offensive line gets jumpy on the first play, and we're penalized for false start. Our first real play is a pass designed for Everett, and I overthrow him. I overthrow the next pass, intended for Mason, as well. 3rd and 10, and we go over the top again. Everett comes up with the jump ball and makes 8 yards after the catch, for a total of 30 yards and the first down at the UT 42 yard line. A pass to Mason again, but this time it is tipped away. Now I look to TE Thomas Kolodzik but the pass is knocked down by a lineman. 3rd and 10 again, and this time I hit Mason in the flat. It's only good for 6, though. 4th and 4 from the 48...and in comes punter Daniel Wheeler. He drops a punt inside the 20, barely. The 34 yarder is fielded at the Alabama 18 and returned 2 yards to the 20. 3:32 left in the 1st quarter; Tennessee 3, Alabama 0.

I inquire about Brewster's injury on the sideline, and I'm told is very minor. In fact, it appears he's ready to go back onto the field. The wait is short.
3 minutes later in game time, Brewster fields fields a punt at the UT33, and gains 3 on the return. With 39 seconds left in the first, we take over at the UT36. We start this drive just like the last: False start. Back in the huddle, Brewster gets onto the team for lack of focus. 1st and 15, and a trap off right guard nets a yard. Time for 1 more play, and I find Prescott in the flat for 11 yards to end the 1st quarter. Ball on the UT43 yard line. End of the 1st. Tennessee 3, Alabama 0.

We switch sides with our slim lead and start off the 2nd quarter in grand fashion: Holding. Our 3rd penalty of the day and it cost us a 1st down.
3rd and 13, and back on our 33 yard line, and I hit Brewster underneath the coverage in the flat. Brewster flashes his moves, and makes 3 players miss. He finally goes down, with a gain of 18. 1st and 10 at the Bama 49! Pitch right is the next call, and the Bama defense appears to be weakening. We gain 12 with Brewster down the sideline! We pitch right on the next play, but he gains just 2 yards. A screen pass to Mason is tipped away, creating a 3rd and 8 at the Tide 35. The call is for a sneaky draw for Brewster, but Alabama did not underestimate our sneakiness. Brewster is stopped for a yard. We're in the gray area. Will we go for it or kick it? I look to the sideline and in comes Castleberry. We're going for it. Castleberry split left; Brewster goes in motion. Brewster heads for the 1st down marker at the snap and turns around as he gets past the marker. I hit him and he turns around to gain 2 more yards after the catch. First down, Tennessee! Ball on the Bama 24. Option left, and the DE crashes on me. A pitch to Brewster is in order and he gains 11 . We flip the play and that DE crashes as well. Another pitch, this time Brewster gains 9. 2nd and 1 at the 4. Brewster drives upfield behind the left guard for 3 and the 1st down. The next play it pitch right, and Brewster sprints to the corner of the endzone before anyone on the Crimson Tide defense can reach him. TOUCHDOWN, TENNESSEE!! Alston adds the extra point, and we have a 10 point lead! 10:03 left in the half; Tenn 10, Bama 0.

Alston sends the kick through the end zone for a touchback, and the Alabama offense goes 3 and out again. This time the punter shows HE MAN strength and boots a 53 yarder. Brewster is simply amazed and turns his back to the punt to run back after it. He finally catches up to the ball, but his momentum carries him back 5 yards from where he caught the ball.
The return team is on him quickly, and he ends up with a yard loss on the return. 1st and 10 at the UT 20 yard line. 8:46 left in the half. Brewster shows no ill effect from his minor injury, and carries the ball off left guard twice in a row. He gains 5 and then 6 yards on the carries. He follows that with back to back 8 yard runs, once off left guard, and once up the middle. Mason comes in to spell Brewster for a play, and carries the ball for 3 yards up the middle. Back to Brewster, and ht gains 2 off tackle. 3rd and 5 at the Tide 48 yard line, and we run the option right. J.B. finds a seam after he takes the pitch, and heads up the sideline for 14 yards. First down, Tennessee, at the Bama 34! Brewster carries again up the middle, but this time the ball pops out as he goes down. A Crimson Tide linebacker comes up with the ball, and we have turned the ball over twice now. First and 10, Alabama, at their own 33. 4:23 left in the half. Tenn 10, Bama 0.

Fortunately, the Tide can't capitalize on this turnover either, and are forced to punt once again. The 48 yard punt is fielded by Brewster with a fair catch. Ball on the UT 20 yard line, 3:04 left in the half.
Our first play is a floater to Everett who makes the catch despite being double covered. The tacklers strip the ball, though. An alert Brandon Mason, however, falls on the ball and prevents a disaster. Brewster goes up the middle for gains of 2 and then 3, setting up a 3rd and 5. A post pattern for Everett nets 11 and the 1st down. The clock keeps ticking, but Coach Fulmer appears unfazed. We keep with our game plan. Brewster off right guard for a yard. Now we call time out. 2nd and 9 at the Tide 44. After some discussion, we go with a draw for Brewster. He nets 8 and we call time out again. :35 seconds left in the half. 3rd and 1. We decide to go option right. Bad decision. Alabama is all over us. We lose a yard. Time out, and that's our last. 4th and 2, ball on the 37. 27 seconds left in the half. We call a toss right. It's effective, but kills the rest of the clock. Gain of 12, and end of the half. End of the 1st half. Tennessee 10, Alabama 0.

In the locker room, we go over strategy, and talk about holding onto the ball better. We're not having so much of a problem driving downfield as we are putting the points on the board.
Defensively, we're doing well, even with our 2nd team corners starting. I'm glad we have our defense. I'd hate to see our record without them. We'd probably have 3 losses with an average defense. The news on TE Dominic Witt is bad. He's re-injured his back. He'll be out again for a while. The main thing we need to focus on is getting another 10 points on the board. If we do that, I think this game will be in the bag. We'll be kicking off to start the 2nd half; perhaps we'll stop them quickly and get good field position.

Alabama opens up the 2nd half with a nice kick return, but the offense sputters again. 3 and out. The 23 yard punt is taken by a very surprised CB Michael Dudgeon, who catches the ball at the UT46, and returns it 2 yards.
1st & 10; ball on the UT48. 12:58 left in the 3rd. Brewster goes off right guard for 2, and then up the middle for 5. 3rd & 3, and we bring in Mason. Mason takes a pitch and goes for the right sideline. He finds some space and gains the 1st down and more. Give him a gain of 7 on the play. Unfortunately, Steven Everett's ankle appeared to be rolled on. He's hobbling off the field. I hope he'll be all right. He's had a stellar game so far. We come back to Mason, this time on a pass, and he's open. I miss him, however, as I was flushed from the pocket and wasn't set when I threw. We try and run a trap off right tackle, but it gains just a yard. Traps don't seem to work very well for us. I'm glad we don't run that many. 3rd & 9, and Mason tries another toss play, this time to the right. He finds a similar hole with similar yardage. He gains 7 on the play. Unfortunately, it leaves us with a 4th & 2 at the Tide 30 yard line. A glance to the sideline and here comes Brewster. We are indeed going for it! It's option right and the end crashes. Quick pitch to Brewster, but the defense swarms to the ball. He's dropped for no gain, and we turn the ball over on downs. 1st & 10, Alabama, at their own 30 yard line. 9:49 left in the 3rd; Tennessee 10, Alabama 0.

I begin to worry as I see Alabama drive downfield. Have they finally figured out our defense? They're moving the ball well, using both the run and pass. Finally, safety Melvin Briggs makes a big play with an interception at the UT26. His 11 yard return gives us the ball at the UT 37 yard line.
First down, Tennessee! 7:44 left in the 3rd quarter. Brewster finds a hole up the middle on the first play and gains 11. Option left isn't as successful; he stopped near the sideline for a yard loss. Time to go to the pass, and I send Brewster in motion. Brewster's open underneath on an out route, and I get the ball there. He turns upfield for a gain of 10, one yard shy of the first down. 3rd & 1, ball on the Alabama 43. Mason comes in the game, and we'll go option left. Mason finds a soft spot and spins through a tackle. He's finally brought down after a gain of 8. First down, Tennessee! Brewster back in and we try the left side twice. First off left guard for a yard, and then off tackle for 7. 3rd and 2 at the Alabama 27 yard line, and in comes Everett, with a bunch of tape on his left ankle. It'll be a reverse to Everett with the receiver trying to go up the right sideline. We run the play, and Everett is stopped after a gain of 1. 4th and 1, and we look to the sideline. Coach wants points; he sends in the kicking team. Alston adds 3 with a 43 yard field goal. 3:06 left in the 3rd quarter; Tennessee 13, Alabama 0.

Alabama finishes off the rest of the 3rd quarter with another nice mix of run and pass plays. As the quarter ends, the Crimson Tide faithful are cheering. Alabama has the all on the UT 37.
End of the 3rd. Tennessee 13, Alabama 0.

Two plays into the 4th quarter, and the defense comes up with another big play. MLB Mitch Briggs, Melvin's cousin, makes an interception in the endzone. He wisely stays there, and we'll take over at the UT 20.
14:05 left in the game. We send Brewster up the middle, but it gains nothing. On 2nd, we try to find Brewster across the middle. The rush flushes me out though, and I miss Brewster completely. 3rd and 10, and we run a screen ot Brewster this time; just trying to gain something before we punt. We complete the screen for 6 and the punt team comes out. Wheeler sends a nice 46 yard punt to the Bama 28, and the return is stopped after 5 yards. 1st & 10, Alabama at their own 33 yard line. 12:57 left in the game; Tennessee 13, Alabama 0.

The dam appears to be breaking. Interceptions stopped the last two drives, but Tide fans noticed something. Alabama was moving the ball. That gave them something to cheer about.
Alabama was about to give them something else to cheer for as well. Alabama capped a 9 play, 67 yard drive with a touchdown pass. The XP is good, and we're getting a little nervous on the sideline. 9:11 left in the game; Tennessee 13, Alabama 7.

Despite the taped ankle, Everett goes out on the kick return team and fields the ball. He also provides us with perhaps the best return we've had all season. The ball rests on the UT 35 yard line after a nice 37 yard return.
We send Brewster up the middle for 6, and then we call option right. Everyone ignores me and the fullback fake and I spin around and follow the fullback up the middle. I gain 4 on the play and a 1st down. Ball on the UT45, and Brewster goes over right guard for a nice gain of 9 yards. You can do a lot of cute things on 2nd & 1, and we try an option reverse with WR Castleberry, it doesn't work, and we even lose 2 yards on the play. 3rd & 3. Brewster in motion. Slant pass over the middle. Brewster makes the catch and is hammered down. He got the first down, though! Ball now on the Alabama 39 yard line. Brewster plunges up the middle for a yard. On 2nd down, we try a counter to the left side. It opens up beautifully, and Brewster sprints for a 16 yard gain. Ball on the Alabama 22. First down. Brewster runs a trap up the middle, but it gains just a yard. We throw a quick hitch to Everett who gain 9 and a first down to the Bama 12 yard line. Alabama jumps offside to give us a 1st & 5 at the Bama 7, and we dive up the middle for 2 more with Brewster. 2nd down, and Brewster hits left tackle for 4 and a first down. 1 yard away from the endzone, and Alabama calls time out. We come back from the time out, with a roll out that I fail to complete, but a holding call is accepted by the Tide, pushing us back to the 11 yard line. 1st down, and Mason in the ball game. He goes in motion and gains 9 on a quick slant across the middle. 2nd and goal on the 2. Time out, Alabama. I look to the clock. 2:02 left in the ball game. Brewster comes back in. Brewster dives up the middle, but comes up a yard short. Time out, Alabama. 1:53 left on the clock. Pitch left on 3rd down. Brewster stiff arms one defender and another grabs hold of him and drops him as he crosses the goalline on a pitch left. TOUCHDOWN, TENNESSEE!! We're going for 2, hoping to make it a 2 touchdown game. The call is for another pitch, this time to the right. The defense reacts well, this time, however, and we don't get the 2 point conversion. 1:43 left in the game; Tennessee 19, Alabama 7.

Alabama's returner is stopped at the Bama 29 yard line, and four incompletions later that's where we take over, with 1:10 left on the clock.
Brewster gains 3 on a pitch left, and that kills enough of the clock for me to take a knee and end the game! Final. Tennessee 19, Alabama 7.

J.B. Brewster is given the game ball for his performance. That was one heck of a drive to finish the 4th quarter off. We ate up almost 8 minutes of the clock.
We're happy all the way home; but I've already started to think about Georgia.

Man, Brewster came up big there at the end, as he has all season. Then again, this dynasty is as much about him as it is about you.

Yeah, I was a bit worried when he was injured on the punt return. Then the coach calls all passing plays? Yeah, I was worried. Big time.

Thanks, MountNittany. It's been a whole lot of fun writing this. I'm a huge UT fan and have been for about 14 years now. I love the Vols. I wish I had Rocky Top on MP3 so I could play it. Alas, my wife it appears blew up the sound card and speakers on my pc. I know all the words, anyway. Thanks for reading along and letting your presence be known. It's nice to know people out there like you and the rest of the guys are enjoying this as much as I am. Tucker, you're right I was worried then as well. They had drove downfield the two drives before, but our defense came up with turnovers, one in the endzone! I looked at the clock when we took the ball, and I thought; take 5 minutes, please. 8 minutes; I was esctatic. Especially when we got pushed back on the holding. The injury to J.B., which he turned out fully healthy afterward, freaked me at first. I kept waiting for the 2nd message that he got injured...especially after I saw him playing again. The second message is usually the all season message, like the one on TE Dominic Witt. Dag nab it, I didn't want to play him, but we're weak along TE, so I used him as a back up. Now he appears to be out for the season. That helped settle that issue. Bean and Serra won't play against Georgia, and Castleberry will start ahead of Everett. I would like to play Serra, and the game sets him in the lineup when you choose auto lineup, but I don't want to risk further injury. I am considering moving one of the many fullbacks on the UT roster to TE or DB. DB makes it rather unrealistic, as FBs are typically short and big. They make nice corners, though.

Came up with a cheesy idea on how to listen to Rocky Top on demand. I have a XBOX, and NCAA 2004. I simply create a team and choose Tennessee's fight song. I have the option to play it.
WOO! Every time I score I get to hear Rocky Top. Shoot, let's be realistic. Every time I get a first down. Georgia fans may not be appreciative of the matter.

This could get ugly for either side. UT has won the last two meetings with by a field goal. Georgia trounced UT the year before that.

I've been told tomorrow's game will feature the ESPN GameDay crew, and has been thrust into the national spotlight. Fans around the globe will be able to tune into the game on TV1.
Weather is expected to very nice. Temperatures in the mid to lower 60s and sunshine.

Sorry, guys, I had planned on playing the Georgia game today, but a time crunch won't allow it. I have duty today and a watch tonight. A long watch, that will take 6 hours of my time, I think.
I might get the game done, but most likely won't be posting it until tomorrow morning.

Between the hedges, the Georgia puppydogs get pummeled by runningback Brewster, and walk on quarterback ardent. Marc Richt gets fired, and Georgia Tech fans have Georgias misery to be thankful for. That would be a great scenario

Coach Mark Richt (aka Pete Oglesby) is 44-13 in the past four years at Georgia. His Bulldogs have gone 11-2, 9-3, 9-3, and 8-4 in the process, winning two bowl games and losing two others. The Bulldogs have finished two of the seasons ranked 8th in the nation.
Richt is rated as a lousy motivator, fair in discipline and academics, has terrible integrity, but is terrific at running up the score. Although I'd love it, I doubt a loss to UT today would cost him his job in the long run.
