Ah, dumb move by the defender then. At least ND stuffed them again after it happened so no big deal.

Thanks for the clarification.

Meh...if he didn't get in then it was by inches rather than the half yard line I think they put him at. Frustrating game overall for the Huskies but still so much better than turning off the game sometime in the first half like most of last year. Really wonder what Locker and Polk could do with an OL that was at least passable.

No kidding. And maybe our defense wouldn't look so vulnerable if we could generate any kind of pressure from the d-linemen.

USC up 20-0 over Cal at the half. Barkley with almost 200 yards passing so far.

Good start to the second half for the Hurricans, a sack/forced fumble and they recover at the OU 10 yard line.

Touchdown Miami.

That too. Really expected Te'o-Nesheim to take another step forward this year and he's been invisible. The corner blitz has been somewhat effective at getting pressure but whenever they have an open shot at the QB he jukes and they miss.

Oh well. Hopefully they can continue to improve and get the win next week. I'd like atleast one win in the next two to motivate me to drive over for the Oregon game.

So people don't think I'm a homer, I agree with this and it's exactly what I've been saying about the ND-Mich one. He might not have been in (and maybe I can find a picture in 3 days) but it shouldn't have been overturned. Another case of the refs overthinking things and giving the home team a wrong call.

In a vacuum yes, but they were 0-9 on plays from inside the 3 yard line in the last 10 minutes. That has to change the calculus.

Not really - I think his receivers (Floyd, Tate, Rudolph) make him look better than he is and the backup would be better by next year if given the full season, but he has to go on the list now. Preseason favorites Bradford and Tebow are injured and McCoy has looked pedestrian compared to last year. Pike and Keenum are putting up great numbers, but their teams aren't known enough. Jacory Harris did well his first couple games but his last 1.5 haven't looked good. I can't think of any RB's that will be a factor - Jahvid Best had the most hype and that's all done now.

In a normal year I'd say no, but this is 2009, so if Clausen has a huge game and a win over USC in 2 weeks he'll be the favorite in the race, particularly if Bradford/Tebow (continue to) miss time and McCoy doesn't look good vs. Oklahoma.

Unless I'm forgetting someone, other than Jacory Harris Clausen has played the strongest schedule of any Heisman contendor, and his candidacy is going to rest on the game against a (perceived) somebody in USC.

Buckeyes D dominates the Hoosiers, 33-14. Indiana's starters scored against OSU's 2nd string defense as time expired.

The Buckeyes offense stunk it up in the 2nd half, after having 300 yards in the first half and every possession ending with a TD or a FG attempt. Had one nice drive in the 4th but that ended when Pryor fumbled (OSU recovered) and then threw an interception the next play.

ND hasn't played anybody worthy yet. They will get murdered (I hope) by USC. They've won three of their games by a total of 13 points(one of them in OT). 3 to Michigan, 3 to Purdue(Seriously...?), and 7 to Washington, which of course was in OT and not a deserving win to say the least.

Clausen has good numbers but his team won't have won enough games by years end for him to be included in any discussions. Scott Tolzien has had a similar year than Clausen so far but you won't find him anywhere in the Heisman discussions. Why? Cause he's not a household name. The Badgers, imo, have had about the same schedule so far as the Irish.

Terrible roughing the kicker penalty, should've been running into the kicker.

Looking forward to the OSU-Miami series that starts next year, glad to see Miami is back on the map.

Couple of interesting things in Schlabach's column on ESPN.com

Quote:
ATHENS, Ga. -- Several minutes after No. 4 LSU survived another last-minute scare in its 20-13 victory at No. 18 Georgia on Saturday night, Tigers linebacker Kelvin Sheppard wondered what the road win would do for his team's reputation.

"After this performance, hopefully we get a lot more respect," Sheppard said. "Coming between the hedges, and winning a game like this, maybe now people we'll think we're legit."

Umm ... no. You need an iffy-at-best call to survive a team with so many glaring weaknesses? I don't give a shit if you played 'em on the moon, that escape shouldn't impress anybody.

Quote:
Crowton told Jefferson to throw a play-action pass to Brandon Lefell on second down. But Jefferson persuaded his coach into changing the play, telling him to give it to Scott again.

"It was second-and-5, with under a minute to go, and Charles is a big, power back," Jefferson said. "I recommended we run it. I didn't want to pass the ball in that situation and throw a pick that would keep us from getting points."

Lemme get this straight, the coach has enough confidence in the QB to make a play but the QB doesn't have enough confidence in himself to do it? Yikes.

Somehow, almost inexplicably, Tennessee in hanging around vs Auburn, down 23-13 with 6 mins left, and driving inside the 20.

Crompton & most of the offense not named Hardesty or Stocker looks as inept as usual but the defense has kept them hanging around in spite of it all.

After struggling to score inside the red zone all night, USC gets another TD run by McKnight. They now lead Cal 30-3 with 5 minutes left.

Why did Oklahoma just kick a fieldgoal to come up short by 1 point? Do they have money on the game and they are trying to beat the spread?

With 4 minutes left to go in the game you have to go for the win with only 2 yards to go.

Auburn gets a FG to go up 26-16 with :36 left to finally put the Vols away in Knoxville.

Just couldn't stop Ben Tate & the Tigers when they had to at the end, but given how long they were stuck on the field (35-25 TOP edge to Auburn) it's hard to fault them for running out of gas a little bit at the end.

Tough loss for Oklahoma but I give them credit for having the balls to schedule tough out of conference games away from home (unlike teams like Florida). It's too bad we have such a poor system for deciding national champions because I think OOC game like this are what would make college football even better.

That is, if they lose of course. Could be another great comeback for them.

Just got back to my hotel room after the game. Wow. Jerry's World is incredible. Literally the most amazing place I've ever watched a sporting event. That jumbotron is jaw-dropping, too. Getting to our seats was a mess, but once we arrived, it was fantastic. Beautiful facility.

Not gonna write much about the game yet cause I'm wet and exhausted, but it was a lot of fun to watch. The defense seemed to bend and not break (outside of the first couple of series). The offense still has trouble on third downs, but Mallett was pretty tight tonight. Running game kind of dead until a couple of nice ones. Wingo's was especially pretty.

Still a few things scare me to death about this team (inexplicably stupid plays on special teams happen too often, and managing to get into 3rd and long so often and then failiing to convert). If we can get better at those and keep improving the defense, this team can go places.

Tonight was a blast.

Didn't need any iffy calls to survive. Holliday's return, which he was doing well all game, and Georgia's clear attempt to overload against the rules on the side they were kicking off to is what gave us good field position. As LSU showed after their own 15 yard kickoff penalty, those penalties don't have to mean a thing if you actually play football. Add to that Charles Scott could have scored on that run from 50 yards out... LSU just needed a field goal to win that game at the end, and at that point UGA was showing no sign of stopping LSU from getting that kind of yardage.

I think Jefferson has confidence in his talent/abilities, he just has a very cautious nature as a QB right now. It was a very big problem today with the sacks, but I think the difference is that a cautious nature is something that can be worked with. He just needs to learn that risk is part of the position. Interesting to see my initial impressions on Jefferson being worried about INTs confirmed in an interview.

Javarris James looked better than he has since his Freshman year. I thought he was going to be something special back then, but the last two years he's looked slow, got injured, and done very little to inspire confidence. Even this year, I kept waiting for them to switch to Cooper as the starter. Tonight he showed off some of that burst that I thought he would never regain.

I wonder what the spread on the UF-LSU game is going to open up at. I think that game looks ripe for an upset with the lack of respect, Tebow kind of up in the air, and it being @ LSU.

Yeah -- getting beat by 14+ by a 1-win UTEP should knock them out, in my opinion. If they can cut it to something more respectable, they may hang in the 20s.

Way to go Houston. I mean, with you know, choking on the high ranking. But so it goes, I guess.

Hope Boise maintains their record all year against inferior opposition, because well..they're the only hope of busting the BCS this year, really.

It's one thing if you just lose a close one with a couple of fluke plays, but Houston just got flat beat. They allowed UTEP's RB to put up 262 yards rushing. They deserve to fall out.

He's down at the half yard line...and yes I know I'm whining now
I'm pissed at the officiating and have a damn good right to be, but it's still quite pathetic that we couldn't get a TD in the 6 cracks we had at it before kicking the FG to go up 27-22. And even more pathetic that we couldn't punch it in on that 3rd quarter drive either. Not to mention the way we let Tate run wild in our secondary, no pressure from our front 4, etc.

Should've won that game with or without bad calls from the refs...
