A law enforcement official briefed on the investigation says a suspect has been taken into custody in the Boston Marathon bombings.

The official spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Wednesday. The official was not authorized to divulge details of the investigation.

The official says the suspect is expected in federal court in Boston.

NBC is doubling down on no arrest, no name of suspect known. CBS has no changed from arrest made to no arrest. #breaking #BostonMarathon

If the reports of the arrest are true, it would appear to me that this was someone on LE's radar, considering how quickly they were picked up after being spotted on the videos.

NBC is denying there has been an arrest because they plan to show the arrest on tape delay tomorrow morning.

Federal Courthouse just became jammed up as people hear the possible news, and want to see if they bring the suspect in

Itīs insane how a person watching the news once a day for 15 minutes (here in germany the 8pm news is a big deal) will get exactly the same amount of verified information than a person watching the news networks report 24/7. What a waste of money and energy that could be spent on their employees and/or other causes. (i for one have stopped watching for updates alltogether a half hour ago, will check back in tomorrow)
Iīm not saying this isnīt rightfully the top priority, just saying there is no freaking point having your anchor on air for 2 hours repeating the same things over and over and over and then having to retract that and report sth else for 2 hours over and over and over.

Donīt tell me those networks/news channels are any less chasing ratings than entertainment programs do.
Thereīs not a shred of moral consideration left there.

As much as i hope those victims recover as well as possible i also hope there wonīt be any victims of a different kind due to false or prliminary reports in the media.

John King (who reported the arrest) went as far as to say it was a "dark skinned male".

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/0...n_3102195.html

It's obnoxious when it happens in the college coach/recruiting reporting, but here, it's just unconscionable. They're just looking for internet traffic, they don't give a shit if whatever they say is accurate, because they assume we'll all forget once the the actual news comes out.

People in the media can be pretty disgusting in general. I worked in radio and TV for a while, and I got out when I heard another reporter at 4 AM, walk into the police station to review the overnight reports say,

"Man, I hope there was a fatal accident last night so I'll have something cool to report."

And he was dead serious. And, unfortunately, he wasn't the only one I ran into that had that same mindset...

That guy had ethics. John King would have just reported a fatal accident regardless of whether it happened or not.

I'm guilty of this, I actually just watched CNN on TV (first time I can remember ever watching any TV news coverage), and its just this stupid woman repeating the same stuff over and over again. She just explained about 5 times that the goal here was to catch the person and get a conviction.

I only lasted about a minute and a half, and that was just because I wanted to catch a glimpse of the car crash.

None of this makes sense. Still a huge motorcade going to the Courthouse. Courthouse has been cleared because of a bomb threat. But motorcade was going there well in advance of that.

She's the same one who said that the United States isn't very big so they should be able to catch who ever did it.

FBI with a great smackdown of CNN.

Contrary to widespread reporting, no arrest has been made in connection with the Boston Marathon attack. Over the past day and a half, there have been a number of press reports based on information from unofficial sources that has been inaccurate. Since these stories often have unintended consequences, we ask the media, particularly at this early stage of the investigation, to exercise caution and attempt to verify information through appropriate official channels before reporting.

And with that, I'm stepping out to get away from the beast.

Is it really an arrest if the suspect is merely escorted to a military base somewhere out of the country for further interrogation?

In the past day, I've been asking myself these rhetorical questions. What's so important about this news (assuming there are no personal connections) that you have to know everything that is happening right the very second? Would it be better if you found out the next day, for example? Why is it so important to be the first with updates? And why is so much effort expended to share redundant news all around the place?

Previous generations thought of news as more a daily occurrence, we learned what happened when the newspaper came, or when the 6:00 news started. We don't consume news that way anymore. It is a 24-hour thing now. It's not super important that anyone know the news right this second. But whenever we think of the news, we can and do check it "right now". I could just decide to impose an artificial time restriction and decide not to check the news until tomorrow, but when I do, it will still be "right this second" then, whenever I want to check (and that's how the news will be presented to me on any news website, in a "this is going on right this second" kind of format.) And CNN will still be throwing out inaccurate nonsense tomorrow, so its not like I'll be spared that if I wait.

This seems odd - from the image, why would he stick around for 2 hours after dropping his pack? Wouldn't you drop your pack and then walk away?

There's another picture of those two I can't seem to find right now but it shows that they separate and the guy in the white hat stays back towards the first blast site area while the duffel bag guy heads towards the second blast site.
