I do like the Ken Burns pick - I might have been tempted to go with the baseball series, but Ken Burns at all was a damn good one.

Hold up the draft. I see a problem.

I wonder (rhetorically) if you're wondering about the same thing I was wondering about.

edit to add: Nope, you were looking at something else.

WSU has too many Show picks, even taking in to account the Wildcard pick.

Snipped from ML's rules on the first page:

Quote:
"Each team will consist ten picks, made up of:

Three selections from each of the following categories:
- Drama
- Comedy
- Other

In addition, your ten picks must include three selections from each of the following "positions":
- Shows
- Performers
- Moments

Note that you can mix and match however you see fit. For example, you could choose three drama shows, three comedy performers, and three "other" moments. Alternatively, you could choose one of each possible combination. It's up to you.

That makes nine picks. Your tenth pick is a wildcard, and can be any position/category combo."

Yeah, I've been trying to meet my limits - its getting really hard right about now, because I ignored the drama and moment categories earlier..

Okay, I am an idiot. It suddenly occurs to me that I have been approaching this whole thing as 3/3/3 per category + WC, not 3/3/3 + WC total. I am screwed...

Well, it might be tough, but I think you should be able to fill the spots you need in the next 3 rounds. From what I just looked at, it's mathematically possible.

Go ahead and fix your picks. Take your time.

Well, unless I retroactively change categories for picks, which ML disallowed early on, I have already ruined the integrity of the thing.

Edit: I guess with the Wild Card I'm okay.

I'm not sure if I'm reading what you meant to write, but ... how I'm reading you is right (I believe): 9 picks must cover the 3/3/3 and the 10th pick can be whatever you come up with, which very likely (or definitely?) create 4th selections in two categories.

Ok, let's see here:

You have:

3 Shows, so you are good there
2 Moments, so you need one more
1 Actor, so you need 2 more

4 Drama, so you cannot have more and you'll have to make one of the picks into you Wildcard
2 Comedy, so you need 1 more
1 Other, so you need 2 more

Basically, you're going to have to mix and match 2 Comedy and 1 Other with 1 Moment and 2 Actors.

It'll be tough, but like I said, you didn't ruin the game or anything.

Sorry, everyone.

Okay...I'll keep Ken Burns' Civil War as a Show/Other, ditch Gilligan, pick up the “don’t bring up the war in front of the Germans” scene of Fawlty Towers with John Cleese, and consider MASH as my Wild Card. That gives me:

Shows: Star Trek (other), Ken Burns Civil War (other), and The Sopranos (drama)

Performers: Kelsey Grammer (comedy), James Garner (drama)

Moments: St. Elsewhere (drama), WKRP (comedy), Fawlty Towers (comedy)

Wild Card: MASH

Now I need an “Other” performer and I’m done. That look okay?

Go ahead and post and bold the two picks, so that people know your udated picks, and because I'm anal.

since all looks well w/ WSUCougar's picks, here we go:

9.2 - Other - Moment - Geraldo's nose is broken during a brawl between guests on his show

Not the greatest television in the world, but I think its safe to say that most people have at least heard of this moment and seen a replay of it, which is what I'm going for in my picks. Geraldo had a group of neo-nazis on stage with groups of black and jewish activists, they (suprise, suprise) didn't get along so well and a fight broke out. Geraldo got hit by a chair and broke his nose.

sorry, I was back - so I don't need my list in operation anymore. But in this case, I'm fine with the pick. Just a refinement - I can say its the single saddest cartoon I've ever seen in my life.

Ok, I had a long post typed out then I got the ol' gamespy maintenance deal when i tried to post it.

To recap, I'm going to pass up all the big name cheesy sitcoms still on the board and pick what i think is the best sitcom ever: The Office(UK).

I sent my list to Schmidty, but since I'm here I'll go ahead and post it myself:

Wildcard (moment)-Wildcard (other): ESPY Awards: Jim Valvano's "Don't Ever Give Up" Speech.

I still remember watching this in my dorm room with my buddies on one of the first if not the first ESPY Awards. What a powerful moment. The strength of will that man had -- he didn't have the ability to walk up on stage, and yet he delivered one of the most powerful and passionate speeches I've ever seen.

It was also a moment that transcended the show and sports -- the Jimmy V Foundation, which uses the refrain "Don't give up ... Don't ever give up" as its slogan has raised millions for cancer research.

I'm going to take a moment that changed sitcoms and created a trend that would continue for years in sitcoms (The "very special episodes")

9.7 - Moment, Comedy - When a child molester tries to sexually molest Arnold and friend - Diff'rent Strokes

-Anxiety

Most of you guys will think this pick is lame, but I loved this show growing up, and this guy was the heart of the show, and an amazing actor:

9.8 Performer, drama - Michael Landon (Little House on the Prairie)

I think it's a great pick. Getting the show is top notch. There are too many moments to really get a best moment. But snagging Michael Landon, who was one of the biggest stars in TV history was a great move.

You probably also could've scored with Melissa Gilbert as one of the top child stars. But Landon was probably the best way to go.
