We play Leicester on their pitch. They're currently in 8th place, but thei're only 4 points behind us. That tells you how tight this is going to be for the last stretch.

John Oster is on the bench as backup winger with the injury to Nathan Jameson. He's got the quality of being able to play on either wing.

GRRR, Leicester come out with the darn 4-2-4 formation...

And it pays off for them early on, only 66 seconds into the game, on a long free kick from just inside the centerline, to one of the 4 strikers that we didn't cover properly. He scores to put us down 0-1. Everybody on our squad is at 5, except Keigan Parker, who strangely enough was the cause of that free kick when called for being offside.

In the 21st minute, Parker redeems himself by scoring his 20th of the season after picking up a loose ball near the edge of they penalty area. We take the lead in the 31st minutes on a sweet bending kick from Ben Watson, from 30 yards out. His 5th goal of the season makes it 2-1 for us.

The half ends with us up by one. We're outshooting them 5 to 4, 3 to 1 on target. Kasper Schmeichel is rated only at 5, but I leave him in...

They score in the 56th minute following a superb passing play. Not much our defenders could have done on that one.

in the 90th minute, after numerous corner kicks that kept being kicked back by one of their 11 men in the penalty box, Danny Shittu finally rises above the crowd and heads one in for the go ahead goal! Funny thing is on the replay, it is evident that the first kickback of that one corner kick from Nigel Quashie had been done by Keigan Parker who simply could not turn around to shot on goal. He simply flicked it back to Quashie who swiftly centred it again, aiming for Danny Shittu. Great play!

Final Score: 3-2

We outshot them, but only on target, ending the game 9(5) for us, 9(4) for them.

Danny Shittu is named Man of the Match with a rating of 8 and the winning goal, his third of the season on headers following corner kicks. Kasper Schmeichel and Ben Watson both got rated at 8. That's an interesting recovery from Schmeichel, given his so-so first half...

There were a few interesting other games:

Crystal Palace drawing with #15 Leeds and Southampton drawing with #19 West Ham are both blessings for us. With the Crystal Palace draw, we move to 2nd place, one point ahead of them, but this time on an even number of games. Sweet!

Mike Cook
requests that he be placed on the transfer list. Woah, that's a bold request. He is a 17yo promising midfielder, a product of our youth program. He's been doing well in non-competitive matches (reserves and U18) but skill wise isn't even close to be first-team material. Click the following thumbnail to see for yourself and tell me I should play the kid instead of any of my tope 3 middies (Quashie, Watson, Bircham) or even my next level ones (Mansell, Jameson, Donnelly), no way...

Valued at 750k, I accept his request, but I ask $1.25M for him. Among his concerns, I see that he feels he's been treated unfairly and that seems to be a big theme among young players. I think I goofed up a little when I resigned some of my young ones. I think I had some of them as either "backup to the first team" or even as "rotation players" while they all should have been either "hot prospects" or "decent young players". I know some other players are unhappy about that, like keeper Joe Marshall and Scott Blake, whom I both changed their status after they had signed their contract, now they feel they've been treated unfairly... oh well, live and learn. I'll pay even more attention to the status I promise to a player when offering a contract...

The next unhappy player is a pretty funny one. Remember left winger Peter Till? PING: SirFozzie I signed him as a Bosman type transfer in the offseason, thinking that at a wage of $750, he was very cheap, only to realize that there was a reason why he wasn't asking more, he was not good... Well he's now complaing that not being part of the first team at Loftus Road is starting to unsettle him... Even funnier is that a football website conducted a poll to get the fans' view on whether Till should be part of The Rs' first-team plans. Remarkably, not one single fan wanted Till in the first team (I'm not making this up, I have the screenshot to prove it) The full result was: Yes: 0% - No: 95% - Undecided: 5%...

The Team Board is delighted and I'd say that they this month they have good reasons to be.

Craig Crane comes in 3rd as English Championship Young Player of the Month. He had ratings of 8, 8, 7, 7, and 7 in his 5 league games of February. Kevin Joyce wins the award for the month, boooo...

I come in second as Manager of the Month, nice!

Gillingham manager, Andy Hessenthaler, goes to the media regarding our upcoming match. Here's how it comes out:
Quote:
'Make or break time' says Hessenthaler
Speaking to members of the media, Gillingham supremo Andy Hessenthaler stated that he believes the upcoming match between his side and Queens Park Rangers to be 'make or break time' for both teams.

Hessenthaler said that he could see the advantage shifting to his Gillingham side if they could pick up the point in the Championship match on Tuesday.

He also said that he would be surprised if the losing team could recover from the defeat in time to keep up a promotion challenge.
This comment generates a buzz of confidence among our players as Matthew Bates, Ben Watson and Jeppe Lund Curth all believe the team can cope with big occasions and they can win the big games without much effort. Well I wouldn't say "without much effort" but yeah, we can win 'em... I decide to reply to Hessenthaler's comment by sort of ignoring him. Look how it came out in the media:
Quote:
Gougeon has no time for speculation
Queens Park Rangers manager reluctantly responded to the concerns voiced by Andy Hessenthaler by suggesting both parties wait and see what happens.

In an interview with London's Evening Standard, Queens Park Rangers boss Steve Gougeon has stated that he has no intention in being dragged into commentin on his team's opponents in the Championship clash on Tuesday. Gougeon said that his only interest was in preparing his team as much as possible for the match and he would leave the predictions and speculation to the Gillingham management
Looking at the list of fixtures for Tuesday, I see another interesting game in the match between #4 Nottingham Forest and #1 Southampton.

We play Gillingham at Loftus Road. They are currently in 6th place and only 4 points behind us.

I'm not changing much on my lineup, but given his usual pattern of fitness, I take good note that Marcus Kelly will probably have to be subbed out. I bring Tom Howell to my bench for this game, prefering him to John Oster. This speaks volume regarding how I think the young Howell has grown this season.

That is one first with a whole lot of passing but not much happens around either goal. Shots are 3(0) to 1(0) for us. They are denying us the penalty area and are clearly playing for the 0-0 draw.

In the 67th minute, Matthew Bates plays a nice pass to in the middle to Andrew Johnson who flicks it to Jeppe Lund Curth to his right. Curth bends a dipping shot from 25 yards out that has their keeper completely mesmerized. We're up 1-0.

One of their middies is sent off on a second yellow in the 87th minute, effectively killing their last chance at a comeback.

Final Score: 1-0

We outshot them 9(1) to 4(0) and most shots were from a long range. We did take control of the ball much more in the second half, look at this:

We're in white and our defensive zone is to the left.

Marcus Kelly is named Man of the Match, once more, with a rating of 8 and 10 runs past opponents. He also suffered a minor injury.

Wow, Crystal Palace drops another big one!

Following our win over Gillingham, I decide to boast a little and remind Andy Hessenthaler of his comments regarding promotion
Quote:
Gougeon scores tactical victory
Queens Park Rangers manager Steve Gougeonhas told Andy Hessenthaler that he feels the result in their English Championship match on Tuesday suggests he got the tactics right on the day.

Gougeon informed London's Evening Standard that he felt his team were the better side and deserved the result.
Some good reactions following that comment of mine. Danny Shittu, Ben Watson and Andrew Johnson all believe they have similar characters to mine and that we will be able to work well together both on and off the pitch.

We play Crewe on their pitch. They're currently in 10th place.

This match closes a busy week. I always find weeks where we play on Tueday to be tough weeks to go through. Our next match is only in 7 days.

I keep basically the same lineup except putting in Nigel Quashie in for Marc Bircham. Tom Howell is still on the bench.

Looking at Crewe's roster, I see a whole lot of injured players...

Before the game, I also see that Keigan Parker is being scouted by Charlton.

Crewe come out with a 4-4-2 formation with very heavy push from the wingers, the one that makes it very similar to a 4-2-4.

We get ahead in the 7th minute as Nigel Quashie's bullet is blocked, but it bounces to Marcus Kelly's feet. Kelly advances unchallenged and scores to make it 1-0. They score 10 minutes later after getting the rebound of a shot that hit the post.

The half ends 1-1. They're outshooting us 9 to 7, but we're more precise winning 5 to 3 on target.

They get ahead on a fluke goal, as their keeper kicks a looooong ball. Matthew Bates fails to intercept it and one of their striker scores.

Final Score: 1-2

Damn! That's just flipping bad luck. We tied them on shot overall, 13 all, but won on target 7 to 5, meaing we put mre pressure than them in the second half, to no avail...

Danny Shittu, Marcus Kelly, and Jeppe Lund Curth all got rated at 8, but it's their keeper who's the Man of the Match with a rating of 9.

Matthew Bates is the only one rated at 6, following his mistake...

Wow! Crystal Palace drops another one.

We play Millwall at Loftus Road. They're currently 22nd in the Championship. I'm always worried about playing them low teams in the standings late in the season. See how Crystal Palace has been dropping some seemingly easy games lately...

They do have a bunch of minor injuries (orange tag) leading them to fairly low overall condition, whereas we're fully rested and ready to go.

Steve Brooker and John Oster are on the bench for us.

Despite us going all guns ablaze on their keeper, it takes us until 2:50 into injury time of the first half to finally score a goal. Jeppe Lund Curth capped a beautiful move that involved four different players.

The half ends 1-0 and as I said, we're keeping their keeper very busy. We're outshooting them 11 to 4, 6 to 2 on target. Their keeper was rated at 9 most of the first half and dropped to 8 after our only goal.

We still can't score for most of the second half, again despite putting a ton and a half of shots on target. Them going to a 4-2-4 in the 73rd minute allows us to control the middle even more, leading to a perfect pass from Ben Watson to Andrew Johnson. Johnson dribbled the ball past form Hatter Alex Bruce to score on a perfect striker. Johnson is the involved in our third goal too, as after Marcus Kelly had intercepted a pass from their keeper and sent a nice pass to Johnson, he got tripped for inside their penalty area for a penalty. Ben Watson scores then.

Final Score: 3-0

We outshot them outrageously, 28 to 5, 17 to 2 on target.

Marcus Kelly is named Man of the Match for the 11th time this season with a rating of 9. Having him try to go to the byline to cross/center the ball is having a very positive effect on him, and on the team's scoring chances... Ben Watson and Andrew Johnson also got rated at 9. Johnson especially had an impressive game, winning 8 of his 12 headers and complteting 37 of his 43 passes, 5 of the key passes. I find these stats impressive for a striker. As a whole, the team did great, it's not often that I see three players at 9 in a game... Kasper Schmeichel also had a good game, rating at 8.

I didn't use one sub in this game, our next game being in 7 days. Maybe I should have put John Oster of Steve Brooker in, if only to give them some playing time, but nobody's condition had dropped enough to warrant it and we clinched the game kind of late, despite dominating most of it. I didn't want to see one lucky goal for them bring the thing to a draw late in the game...

Here's how the games involving teams in the top 6 played out:
#7Charlton0-0Nottm Forest#3
#5Crystal Palace0-1Reading#24
#1Southampton1-0Walsall#16
#19Stoke1-1Burnley#4

And again, wow! Honestly, my comment about Crystal Palace dropping easy games was a note I had taken before the games of today were played out, but they did it again, they are playing themselves out of the playoffs... Southampton were tied with Walsall until late in the game too... We're still in 2nd, 6 points off Southampton and now 5 points ahead of 3rd place Nottm Forest. Only 2 points separate 3rd place form 9th place with 8 games to be played...

After the game, Stevenage offer to loan 17yo promising goalkeeper Joe Marshall for 3 months, paying 100% of his current wage. I accept, since Joe is unhappy right now, maybe having him play elsewhere for a while will make him realize he's in a good club...

I wanted to report this one game, since it's the only I played on Friday evening and I thought this morning that it could be cool to put up a little about QPR's chances of promoting, with only 8 matches to be played.

I don't have time to put up the poll right now as I have to leave for karate, but look for it in the poll section of the Dynasty forum, probably later this afternoon. I'll also post an announcement in here when it's up.

seems like you're gonna promote this season, even though you probably won't be #1

I have posted the poll that is not a poll in the dynatsy poll forum:
QPR2010: A frog in the Premiership in 2010-11?

For some reason, I can't make a poll with that thread, there was no option when I first started the thread, there are none to add one when I go edit the post, and I can't even delete the darn first post to make it disappear. I think it's got something to do with me having mod status only in the HT forum, sometimes it screws up my rights in other forums...

Oh well, post your pick in the thread...

I posted this information in the poll thread, I thought it might be nice to have it in here...

Last 8 games for the Rangers:
03/20, away at Leeds (14th after 38)
03/28, home vs West Ham (18th after 38) on TV
04/03, away at Walsall (16th after 38)
04/10, away at Nottm Forest (3rd after 38)
04/13, home vs Reading (24th after 38)
04/17, home vs Burnley (4th after 38)
04/24, away at Bristol C (23rd after 38)
05/02, home vs Stoke (19th after 38)

Last 8 games for Southampton:
03/21, #4 Burnley (away) on TV
03/27, #23 Bristol C (home)
04/03, #9 Crystal Palace (home)
04/10, #19 Stoke (away)
04/13, #7 Brighton (away)
04/17, #6 Charlton (away)
04/24, #13 Cardiff (home)
05/02, #17 Derby (away)

Southampton has a 3 home/5 away, while we have an even 4/4 split. They play 4 games against teams fighting for a playoffs spot, with the April 10-13-17 week being a very tough one, all away games ending with Brighton and Charlton.

We play two teams fighting for a playoffs spot.

Both us and them will play Bristol C, Burnley, and Stoke in that 8 games stretch.

I'd find it very nice that Crystal Palace wake up for their game against Southampton

That's interesting. Charlton put in a bid for Keigan Parker. They're offering his value of the moment, $2M. Interesting cause I had not realized his valued had increased so much. Last I remmember seeing for him was a value right around $1M. Gotta say he's been a key goal scoring machine for us, and as thus was featured in many games. They have set a deadline of March 21, so I'll think about it a little...

March 16, 2010
Ben Watson and Andrew Johnson are both named on the English Championship Team of the Week.

March 17, 2010
Joe Marshall
agrees to go on loan at Stevenage. I have saved his player profile to see if he'll gain anything from that loan.

I'm still pondering the Charlton offer for Keigan Parker. All of my coaches are keen admirers of Keigan. They also all think that his presence in the first team is of great benefit to the club. hrm... I boost the offer to his minimum fee release clause of $3.8M and I send the counter Charlton's way...

March 19, 2010
Woah, Darren Evans is called up to the England U19 squad for a friendly. That's kind of out of the blue. I gotta say he has not impressed me too much this season...

Dag & Red want Mike Cook on loan for 3 months. They'd pay 100% of his $1000 per week wage, so I accept the offer.

Charlton withdraw they bid for Keigan Parker. They'll be back, they always come back...

March 20, 2010
Paul Davies resumes full training following his injury.

Andrew Johnson and Matt Cross are both called up for a friendly with the England U21 squad on March 23.

We play Leeds on their pitch. They are currently 14th but are considered 5-4 favorites for that match.

They bat Cardiff 6-0 at home two games ago.

Coming to the game, they show that darn 4-4-2 with long arrows on the wings, very similar to 4-2-4...

It's Jeppe Lund Curth to Andrew Johnson to Marcus Kelly outside their penalty box in the 35th minute. Kelly dribbles it inside, scores. He's having another good start so far, in 35 minutes he's already run past 11 opponents, currently rated at 10.

The half ends with us up 1-0. We're outshooting them 9(4) to 5(1) at this point.

Both teams played a week ago, but our general condition at the half is much better than theirs.

in the 80th minute, they go very offensive, with a 2-3-5 formation. Andrew Johnson has to leave the game injured in the 88th minute. Since we've already use our three subs, we'll have to play the injury time with 10 men on the field. We hang on!

Final Score: 1-0

They ended outshooting us 12 to 11, but we were better on target, 6 to only 2.

Marcus Kelly is named Man of the Match with a rating of 9. He had 17 runs past opponents before being substituted in the 68th minute.

Mathew Sadler also got rated at 9 after winnig 13 of his 14 tackles and havign 5 interceptions.

Kasper Schmeichel, Danny Shittu, and Matthew Bates all got rated at 8.

With the win, we're now 6 points clear of 3rd place, and only 3 points from Southampton, but they'll play tomorrow.

Nigel Quashie suffered a damaged shoulder in training. He will miss 5 days.

Mike Cook has agreed to go on loan with Dag & Red. I have saved his player profile to see what he'll have gained during this loan.

March 22, 2010
Mathew Sadler
and Marcus Kelly are both named on the English Championship Team of the Week. For Sadler, it's his first time this season. He had been named once all last season. For Kelly, it's his 3rd time this season. He was even player of the month in January.

Darren Evans gets a rating of 6 with the England U19 squad, but the whole team played kind of poorly, with multiple 6's, in a 1-2 loss against South Korea.

Since we're playing on TV this week, our weekly game is only tomorrow, but the rest of the teams in the Championship are playing today.

A couple games are of interest to us though. #1 Southampton won a tougher than expected game, 2-1 over #22 Bristol C, giving them a 9 points lead over us. #3 Gillingham won 1-0 on the road over #19 Coventry, putting them at only 3 points of us, while #4 Nottm Forest also won 1-0 on the road, them over #16 Derby, putting them at only 5 points behind us. Only 3 points separate #8 from #3...

We play West Ham at home. They are currently 19th and this game is to be televised live.

I put in Marc Bircham for Nigel Quashie and Steve Brooker for Andrew Johnson.

They show a 3-5-2 formation with the 5 middies on a straight line with no arrows at all.

TV commentators are pointing out key mean, with Danny Shittu being presented as QPR's key man. They come up with a nice stats, saying the team has only conceded 25 in the 34 games the strong center back has played in. I compare that to the 33 goals conceded in 39 games, I find that we've conceded 8 in the 5 games he was out injured. He is indeed a difference maker. They present goalkeeper Ben Williams as West Ham's key man, stating that he can do a great job for his side today and that his teammates can be confident of not conceding too many with him in goal. Looking back, he was Man of the Match in our last game against West Ham earlier this season. The game ended as a 0-0 draw.

Their prediction: It'll be a tight game but I think West Ham will lose this one. QPR are on a high and home advantage should be enough to get them the victory.

Let's hope he's right!

Damn! Jeppe Lund Curth has to leave the field injured very early on, in fact, after only 12 minutes. Andrew Johnson comes in. We have a lot of players rated at 5 early on, I wonder if it's the TV cameras giving the guys the jitters...

Steve Brooker suffers a minor injury in the 18th minute and his condition drops to 74%. With Curth's injury, we're out of strikers on the bench, he'll have to tough it out or I'll have to move Matt Cross forward and bring a winger from the bench...

Looks like Brooker's injury was not too bad, since he's able to score in the 33rd minute. He received a nice pass from Marcus Kelly on the left side, moved in on goal and without any angle, was able to strike a nice bending shot that found its way behind the keeper. From the TV commentators: "Brooker staking his claim for a regular place" I found that funny

The half ends with us up 1-0. We're outshooting them 8(1) to 1(1). They often have they three defenders and 5 midfielders in the penalty box, denying us of any close shots on goal. As a result, we're taking shots from long range and more often than not, putting them in the stands. Steve Brooker's condition is at 76% at the half, so he'll be all right for now...

West Ham goes to a 4-2-4 formation in the 78th minute and again we'll have to finish this game a man down, as Marc Bircham has to leave, injured, in the 87th minute. They won't even get one shot during the second half...

Final Score: 1-0

We outshot them 15(4) to 1(1), also winning possession with an impressive 61%.

Marcus Kelly is named Man of the Match with a rating of 9 and 9 runs pas opponents. Steve Brooker was rated at 8.

We're back to within 6 of 1st place Southampton, and 6 clear of 3rd place Gillingham.

Bad news following the game. First Marc Bircham twisted his knee and will miss one week. But the worst of news comes about Jeppe Lund Curth. He strained his groin and will miss 2 weeks. As is very often the case, groin=rehab, and since he'll miss 4 games in these 2 weeks anyway, I decide to send him to rehab. Bad, bad idea! He'll miss four weeks while attending physiotherapy. That's a killer...

Hopefully, Steve Brooker will be back to his good old self, trying to impress me to regain a first team spot.

Keigan Parker should also be back soon, albeit not match fit for a while I fear.

March 30, 2010
Speaking of Keigan Parker, he resumes full training today. Good, good, we could use his great finishing skills...

March 31, 2010
For what it's worth, our Reserves squad won the title in Reserves group 5. yay!

The team board is still delighted with my work as manager. Good, good.

Marcus Kelly comes in second place as Player of the Month. He had games rated at 8, 8, 9, 9, and 9, with 2 goals and 1 assist. In these 5 games, he had a game with 16 runs past opponents and another with 17 runs past opponents.

I come in 3rd as Manager of the Month.

Steve Brooker's goal against West Ham is named Goal of the Month and Jeppe Lund Curth's goal against Gillingham earlier in the month comes in 2nd place for the same award.

I hate seeing this kind of message title in my inbox: "Bates ruled out of key match"... When you know the player's name, even before reading the message, it's usually not good news. Read this:
Quote:
Bates ruled out of key match
Queens Park Rangers' defender Matthew Bates is definitely out of his team's important Championship match against title rivals Nottm Forest on April 10th.

Bates has been told that he will be out for at least 2 weeks after suffering a calf strain.

Q.P.R. fans have flooded the club's website wishing the 23 year old a speedy recovery whilst hoping that the team can still pick up wital points without him.
My physios recommend to have him by examined by a specialist, which I do and he'll miss 3 weeks while attending physiotherapy. Dang, I'll stop sending guys to rehab this late in the season in the future... This injury has me really worried that our defense may crumble. We had trouble when Danny Shittu went down, and while Bates may be easier to replace, they are still forming a good duo when playing together...

While looking for a replacement, I see that Darren Evans has an orange "Inj" tag next to his name, dang! He apparently suffered some chest injury on March 31st and will not be 100% for 4 more days.... Grrrr, this is muddying things a bit more...

We play Walsall on their pitch. They're currently 15th.

I had to scramble a bit to put a starting lineup for that one. Ricky Hanson starts for Matthew Bates and Steve Brooker starts in place of Jeppe Lund Curth. Keigan Parker is on the bench despite being out of shape and all that. Michael Synott is my backup defender on the bench, since Darren Evans' condition is only at 74%.

Walsall show a 4-4-2 with long arrows. We're getting better at countering this formation...

Just before halftime, in the 45th minute, they have one of their centre-back sent off. After having been called for a foul, he thought it's be a good idea to kick Andrew Johnson. He gets the red straight. They go to a 4-4-1 formation.

The half ends 0-0 and we're outshooting them 7(3) to 4(2) for the moment.

They go to a 4-3-2 formation early in the second half and we just can't solve that puzzle. We did put a lot of pressure, but we just could not score.

Final Score: 0-0

We outshot them 11(5) to 7(3) on the game, but we clearly should have won this one...

Marcus Kelly is named Man of the Match with a rating of 8 and 13 runs past opponents.

Kasper Schmeichel, Craig Crane, and Nigel Quashie also all got rated at 8.

With 5 games still to be played in the season, we're now 8 off Southampton, with them winning 2-0 over poor Crystal Palace, and but we're still 6 ahead of Gillingham, since they also drew their game, 1-1 with Brighton. New thing is that Nottm Forest won their game, 3-0 over Ipswich, and are now tied with Gillingham, 6 points behind us.

We play Nottingham Forest on their pitch. They're currently in 3rd place, so this is a big, big game for us. We used to call these kind of games "4 points games" in the good old NHL, since wins are worth 2 points. In our case today, it's a 6 points swing that is at stake.

They are 5-4 favourites even though Rubén, their top striker is out for 3 months with a torn calf muscle.

I see that Charlton and now Burnley are scouting Keigan Parker. He's back to his regular starting spot today, taking the place of Steve Brooker. Ricky Hanson is also starting, playing against his former team.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind a draw so much...

They get a goal called back in the 20th minute. One of their strikers had headed a corner kick in, only for me to hear boos from the home crowd and see that the goal had been disallowed. We got lucky on that one, unfortunately, that was the end of our luck.

They mandhandled us most of the first half, scoring twice in the following 16 minutes, and spending a whole lot of time inside our penalty box. After the second goal, Ricky Hanson is apparently not able to cope with the pressure of playing his former club and is rated at 5. I pull him and put Darren Evans in his place.

The half ends with us down 0-2 and being outshot 7(6) to 2(1), not a very good half of football on our part.

It doesn't get much better in the second half, where we see them add another one in the 55th minute, on a free kick from just outside our penalty area. I pulled Kasper Schmeichel after that goal and put Paul Davies in, but it was all done then...

Final Score: 0-3

They outshot us 11(7) to 7(4). We did put some pressure in the second half, but never got anything going... A really ugly, ugly game for us...

We're now only 3 points ahead of Nottm Forest and Gillingham, who also won their match, 2-0 over Hull, with only 4 games to play. Southampton are now 11 points ahead of us and they've clinched promotion and have virtually clinched the league title.

is now more at peace with his role. He is prepared to wait for a first team opportunity if necessary. He revealed that I had convinced him he has the ability to force his way into the first team if he remains patient and continues to work hard.

We play Reading at Loftus Road. They're currently in 19th position, but I fear this game. The oddsmakers have them as 6-4 favorites.

I put in Darren Evans for Ricky Hanson.

The first half is a very defensive one, ending 0-0. Shots ar 3(2) for us to 3(0) for them... Marc Bircham has taken the night off so far, rating at 5. I reaplce him with Ben Watson. I decide to push my wingers up a notch, altering the formation to a sort of 4-2-2-2 with 2 MC's, 2 AM's (L & R) and 2 SC's, in hope of making something happen up top.

We do get a bit more pressure on their defense, but it will take until the 90th minute to pay off, when Andrew Johnson passes the ball back all the way from the center line to our keeper, Kasper Schmeichel in a move that had me scratching my head. Schmeichel then quickly passed it on to Marcus Kelly on a very accurate long pass, to the centerline, on the left wing. Kelly simply flicked it forward to a Keigan Parker on the run. It's the good old Parker and you know he rarely misses in one on ones. He doesn't miss this one...

Final Score: 1-0

Final shot tally is 7(4) for us, 9(1) for them.

Marcus Kelly is named Man of the Match with a rating of 9. He had 13 runs past opponents and one assist on the winning goal.

Danny Shittu and Nigel Quashie got rated at 8.

Southampton clinched the league title with a 2-0 win over #8 Brighton. Nottm Forest won, so that last minute goal to give us the win is even more important. We keep our 3 points lead 3 games to go. We have now clinched a playoffs spot.

Justin Wall
comes back from his loan at Cheltenham. He says he has enjoyed his spell at Cheltenham, even saying he was sad to leave them. He added that he felt he learnt a lot during his spell on loan and is hoping that his increased experience will help his chances of establishing himself within the Q.P.R. squad. He had 14 appearances while at Cheltenham, 11 of them as a starter. He didn't score a goal, but assisted on 3 others, while averaging a form rating of 7.07. Not bad. His value took a heck of a jump, going from a pre-loan value of $1.95M to a value of $3.8M now. I guess him being part of a first-time squad, even in League Two, helped him be seen as starting material. He's injured right now, so his player profile shows many drops in skills and that's got me frowning. In fact, he lost skills in most skills important for a striker. I guess I'll have to reevaluate him in a couple of weeks, see if he regains anything...

Jeppe Lund Curth is now only 5 days from ending his physiotherapy sessions.

With only 3 games left, I took a look at who the top 3 contenders to the last promotion spot will play in their last 3 games...
Q.P.R. (77pts)
home, Burnley #6
away, Bristol C #24
home, Stoke, #22

Nottm Forest (74pts)
away, Sheff Utd #14
home, Coventry #19
away, Hull #16

Gillingham (72pts)
home, Crewe #5
away, Millwall #23
home, Leeds #13

I'm not fooled by the #24 and #22 on our schedule, nothing is a given in this game...

We play Burnley at Loftus Road. They're currently 6th, so it's another big, tough game for us. We're 5-4 favorites for this one.

I keep Iván Kaviedes on the bench, as well as Nathan Jameson.

It's the third game in 7 days for either team.

Marc Bircham is not even selected for this one. I put Lee Mansell in his place on the bench.

After 20 minutes, it's obvious that we're not too much in synch and are not having a good night.

The half ends 0-0, and we're lucky. They're outshooting us 10(3) to 4(1). Andrew Johnson is rated at 5. Darn it guys! We can't have a different regular starter take the night off every night!!! I leave him in, but I'll be watching him...

We score in the 59th minute after a throw in from Craig Crane deep in their zone is headed on by Matt Cross to Keigan Parker who moves inside the box before firing a bullet. They retaliate only 6 minutes later after a couple long passes bringing the ball to the center. Darren Evans went for the header but lost the fight, letting their striker redirect the ball to the front of the net for his teammate who scores.

Final Score: 1-1

We're lucky to come out of this one with a point, and to think that we were even ahead. They kicked our but, outshooting us 17(5) to 9(4).

Craig Crane suffered a minor injury in the game.

Kasper Schmeichel got rated at 8.

Nottm Forest also drew 1-1, against #14 Sheff Utd, while Gillingham won their match convincingly, 3-1 over #5 Crewe, so we're now only three points ahead of both of them.

Darn! Ben Watson fractures his wrist in training. He will miss a month.

April 19, 2010
Ouch, we're not the only one being hit by the injury fairy. Bristol C's starting centre back suffere a damaged spine. He will mis 7 months...

April 22, 2010
Jeppe Lund Curth
resumes full training following his physiotherapy.

GRRR! Andrew Johnson strained his wrist in training. He'll miss a week and we play in 2 days. What the heck are they doing in training with all these wrists injury. They should stop enjoying themselves so much in the showers and start showing up on the field. I guess I'll have to go forward with my evil plan: turn off warm water. They won't wanna fool around so much in the showers anymore

I guess the "cold water only" showers were not a very good idea, as Marcus Kelly suffered a concussion later on in the day. He probably was trying to run out of the showers as fast as possible. He will miss 5 days.

ARRRRRRGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!
now, I feel better with that out of my chest...
April 24, 2010
Matthew Bates
resumes full training following physiotherapy.

We play Bristol C on their pitch. They're currently 24th but have not yet clinched relegation, so they'll come out fighting for their life.

Injuries are forcing me to shuffle our lineup big time. Jeppe Lund Curth gets the start, even if he's only at 83%. This means he'll probably have to be subbed at the half. Because of that, I'm keeping 2 strikers on the bench.

Justin Wall has been regaining skills since getting back from injury following his return from his loan spell. I have him on our bench even if he's only at 88%.

I put Tom Howell in for Marcus Kelly, following his recent injury. Kelly is on an orange "Inj" tag, so I keep him on the bench anyway.

Bristol show a 4-4-2 with long arrows on the wingers to start the game. grrr...

Jeppe Lund Curth goes to 89% as we start the game.

The first half goes scoreless, with us outshooting them 9(4) to 2(0). We're putting tons of pressure on them, but they've been able to deny us. Curth's condition is still not bad at the half, at 76%. I keep him in a little longer. Danny Shittu is the latest with the idea of taking a night off. He was at 5 most of the half but is now at 6. Come on Big Dan, we need you in there!

They go to a 4-3-3 formation as the second half starts.

Jeppe Lund Curth's condition is now at 64% as we come to the 65th minute. I pull him out and put Steve Brooker in.

Wee keep trying and trying, but we just can't convert...

Final Score: 0-0

We did outshoot them 13(5) to 7(1) but we could not score one tiny goal. The draw does it for them though and they clinched relegation to League One.

Matt Cross and Nigel Quashie were both rated at 8 in this game. Cross also suffered a minor injury during the game.

Nottm Forest also drew 11, with #17 Coventry, while Gillingham won, agains convincingly, 2-0 over #23 Millwall. We're now only one point ahead of Gillingham and still 3 points ahead of Nottm Forest, with only one game to go.

The team board is still delighted with my work. From promoting, then to be said to be fighting for relegation, to be fighting hard for a spot for promotion to the Premiership, I'd say they have something to be delighted about...

Nobody from Q.P.R. comes up in any of the awards this month. It's been a while since that last happened.

We play Stoke at Loftus Road. They're currently 17th and have made quite a surge recently as they were in 22nd place when with 3 games left in the season.

Promotion is ours to lose. We're currently in 2nd place, one point ahead of Gillingham. As they say, we win, we're in. Any other result and we'll need help from somebody else. Even #4 Nottm Forest could catch us if we lose and they win, since they have a much better goal differential than us (+27 to +24 and it would get better with a loss for us and win for them)...

Matt Cross is only at 66%, he's not ready. I put Marcus Kelly in on the right wing and Tom Howell on the left wing, with Nathan Jameson on the bench.

I'm debating for a long time whether to put Matthew Bates in there instead of Darren Evans. I finally decide to leave Evans in as the starter and keep Bates on my bench.

Andrew Johnson is on the bench, despite his low condition at 83%.

They beat us 0-2 on our earlier match, on their pitch

I've never been this nervous before a game before...

And I have good reasons to be, as they score in the 17th minute, on a free kick from just outside our penalty box...

We take one back, after 42 seconds of only 1 minute of injury time in the half. Jeppe Lund Curth scored on a 40 yard strike that got deflected by a defender right in front of their keeper.

The half ends 1-1 with very few scoring chances. Shots are 2(2) for us and 1(1) for them. At the half, Gillingham are ahead 1-0 over Leeds, while Nottm Forest is losing, soundly, 0-3 to Hull. We have to win our game!

I tweak our tactics quite a bit, and we do get a ton and a half more pressure on them, but damn it, we can't buy a goal!!!

Final Score: 1-1

I just wanna cry right now. We shot 11 times in the second half, 4 times on target, but their keeper turned into a wonder keeper. I hate wonder keepers!!! Final shot tally comes to 13(6) for us to 1(1) for them...

Their goalkeeper is name Man of the Match with a rating of 8.

We drop to, and finish in 3rd place.

If we're to play in the Premiership next season, we'll have to do it through the playoffs...

Our semi final will be against Crewe who finished in 6th place, with the first leg on their pitch on May 10, and the second leg at Loftus Road on May 13.

ARRRGGGG Another big blow! Craig Crane suffered a torn groin muscle and will miss a month. Furthermore, my physios think he should undergo surgery, a surgery that could set him back 2 to 6 months. Since the season is over for him anyway, I send him to the OR. He will miss three months. See ya next season dude...

Possible replacements at right full back would include youngster John Davies, but he's already injured and 2 weeks away from a comeback, and Ricky Hanson. I've never been real impressed with how Hanson has played at right full back in the past, but he's my only option. He'll have to do for now, err I mean GO RICKY, YOU CAN DO IT!!!

The first leg of the other semi final is played between Burnley and Nottm Forest, on Burnley's pitch. Burnley, the underdog in this semi final, come out with a 2-0 win. That's a big win for them and Nottm Forest are spiralling out of control, dropping many games in the last few games, much like us I must admit...

We play Crewe in the first leg of our semi final. They finished the season in 6th place. We drew 0-0 on our pitch back in October and they beat us 1-2 on their pitch on March 6, but both games were very close.

I put Matthew Bates in for Darren Evans at the centre back position next to Danny Shittu.

The oddsmakers have us as 5-4 favorites.

We gotta keep the score low on the road and it may be a tough task, as I see that they are coming out with that darn 4-4-2 formation with heavy push from the wingers.

Only 40 seconds into the game, Jeppe Lund Curth hits the post on a free kick, we put the following shot into the stands!

Curth redeems himself in the 7th minute as he receives a nice pass from Marcus Kelly and moves in on the keeper. Alone, he scores the 1-0 goal. There've been many highlight so far, so much so that I almost had the feeling we were coming close to halftime. That is until I looked up, saw the 1-0 score, and next to it the time of the game: 6:37 We have already shot 6 times, twice on target, to none for them...

In the 21st minute, a great Cross-Parker-Kelly trifecta leaves Marcus Kelly alone with the keeper. He scores his 5th of the season to make it 2-0 for us. After 25 minutes, we're outshooting them 13(6) to 1(1).

21 seconds into injury time, Mathew Sadler send a pass from his left full back position toward Danny Shittu, in the center of our defense. Big Dan doesn't even flinch and the ball comes dead between him and right full back Ricky Hanson. One of their striker pounces on the ball and scores. Following the goal, I get the message that Shittu needs to be looked at by our physio. Dang!

The half ends with us up 2-1. We're outshooting them 16(6) to 4(3). Danny Shittu is not showing any ill effect from his minor injury, I breath a long sigh of relief...

The second is more of us putting the kill on them, without really killing them, until 3:04 of an announced 4 minutes of injury time have been played. At that time, Keigan Parker jumps up and heads a corner kick from Nigel Quashie behind the keeper, making it 3-1. In any other game this would be a useless goal, but in this semi final, that's a huge one, giving us a two goal advantage going back to Loftus Road.

Final Score: 3-1

We outshot them 22(8) to 10(4), kind of out of line compared to our previous two matchups, in which shots were pretty even between both teams.

Keigan Parker is named Man of the Match with a rating of 9 and a goal. Marcus Kelly is also rated at 9, while Danny Shittu, Matthew Bates and Marc Bircham are all rated at 8. Kasper Schmeichel rates at 6 for teh second consecutive game.

All in all, a great game going into leg 2 of the semi final at Loftus Road.

May 12, 2010
The second leg of the other semi final is played and it turns into a scorefest. Going into the game, Burnley is up 2-0 on aggregate goals and Nottm Forest has to turn it up a notch. They indeed do that, but in the process, they forgot to play defense. The game ends 4-3 for Nottm Forest, giving an aggregate score of 5-4 in favor of Burnley. That's an upset, but Nottm Forest had been having trouble for quite a few weeks now...

Goalkeeper Paul Davies is whining again. He wants to play first team football on a regular basis. After seeing the last 2 games from Kasper Schmeichel, I'm almost tempted to put him in... We'll see...

We play Crewe at Loftus Road for Leg 2 of the semi final. We're up 3-1 on aggregate goals.

I'm seriously thinking about putting Paul Davies in at keeper, but I don't. I'll have Kasper Schmeichel on a short leash though and if an easy goal comes in early, I won't hesitate to pull the plug...

We go with basically the same lineup. I decide to start Andrew Johnson instead of Keigan Parker, if only to have one of the two starters in better condition than the other. I consider Jeppe Lund Curth to be better sparkplug for our offense than Keigan Parker and that's about the only reason. Looking at Parker's profile, I go "HOLY MOLY!!!" His value has soared to a nice $4.6M. It has probably happened since the start of the playoffs, since the last time I looked, I think he was in the $2M range. He's now got 5 teams scouting him: Wolves, Burnley, Charlton, Sheff Utd, and Ipswich. With that kind of value, I now regret setting him with a minimum fee release clause at "only" $3.8M... Thing is, I can't even renegotiate his deal right now, as Mr. Parker does not believe Q.P.R. have the resources to meet his demands... He's currently earning $6.6k per week, I offer him the tops my team board will allow, and that is $15k per week + a signing fee of $420k, with a minimum release fee at $6.6M...

Coming to the game, Crewe show the same 4-4-2 formation with heavy push from the wingers. They usualy go more conservative away from home, but they need to make up 2 goals only to tie the series...

Damn! Jeppe Lund Curth has to leave the field, injured after being tackled hard in the 18th minute. I sort of saw that injury happen live, as I saw him run up to the ball and then got the message he had to leave. This has not happened to me very often... Keigan Parker comes in to replace him.

At that time, our whole back 4 is not having a good start, with Ricky Hanson and Matthew Bates rating at 5, and Mathew Sadler and Danny Shittu being the only players on the team at 6. Good thing, Kasper Schmeichel is there to stop it behind them, rating at 8 for now.

Ricky Hanson gets a yellow in the 23rd minute. I usually don't pay attention to this stuff, but I remembered seeing the "Yel" tag next to his name. He'll be banned for a game, the final, should we move on.

The half ends scoreless and shots come to 7(0)for us, 6(2) for them. They're spending an awful lot of time on our end of the field. Ricky Hanson is back on track, now rated at 7, while Matthew Bates is the only player still under 7.

We hold them well, but they're mounting attacks after attacks. Int the 73rd minute, we go to a 4-1-4-1 formation as Andrew Johnson's condition dips to 68%. I put Marc Bircham as the defensive middie and Nathan Jameson comes in at middie to replace Andrew Johnson. This leaves Keigan Parker as the sole striker on top. We will hang in there for the last 17 minute.

Final Score: 0-0 (3-1 aggregate)

We're through! Final shot tally comes to 11(1) for us to 7(2) for them. We regained control of the ball on our end in the second half, leaving them to control it in the midfield, without ever really attacking our goal...

Kasper Schmeichel gets a rating of 8, as does Marcus Kelly.

Back at the clubhouse, I'm anxious to see if Curth's injury is something he'll be able to shake off before the final and oh boy I don't like what I see in my inbox... There's not only the usual message that your physio has a match report for you, but instead I see: "Curth injury Shocker"... This doesn't sound good... looking at it, it isn't, here's the news:
Quote:
Curth injury shocker
Q.P.R. have suffered a huge setback after learning that their influential striker Jeppe Lund Curth will be out for around 8 months with a broken leg.

Fans of Q.P.R. are said to be distraught that the injury, which is sustained in the match against Crewe, could potentially have a disastrous effect on teh team's ambitions.
8 months!!! Say it ain't so!!!

Following that announce, you can be sure that the media won't let me get drunk quietly. They come up with one of their brilliant questions: "Jeppe Lund Curth injured himself in the match today and it looks as if he could be out for some time. Will he be missed?"

I so want to go ballistic on him, kind of like the Bill Parcells of the good years, tell him that no, dumbass, we won't miss the most important of our strikers... Unfortunately (or fortunately) that option is not available. I could have told him that Jeppe is a big player for us and that we will definitely miss him, but I gotta regroup. I can't let our team, and most importantly the other team, think that we can't compete without him in there. I reply that Jeppe is an important part of this team, but that I feel we've got adequate cover. This is true too, I believe it, sort of. I mean Andrew Johnson and Keigan Parker is a pretty legitimate starting duo up front. Hopefully we can get ahead early on before I need to sub one of them...

Following my comments to the press, I see that Jeppe is pleased with me saying to the press that he'll be missed from the team.

I also notice something weird, I have not received any notice of Ricky Hanson being banned for having collected 5 yellows. Weird, is that not effective in the playoffs. During the gam, when he got his yellow, I remember checking his player profile and it indeed said he was one yellow away from being banned for one match. He had the "Yel" tag next to his name, tag that is not there anymore. Is that a bug, or is that normal since we're in the playoffs? I notice that Steve Brooker still has the "Yel" tag next to his name. Weird, but I won't complain...

The English Championship playoffs final will be only one game, to be played between us and Burnley at Wembley Stadium. The game is scheduled for May 23. We had a weird couple of games with them this season. While both games ended as 1-1 draws, we kicked their butt on their pitch and they kicked our butt on our pitch, that second game coming no later that three weeks ago, on April 17. We are early 6-4 favorites while Burnley's odds of winning are set at 13-8

Keigan Parker
rejects our offer. He still thinks we don't have the resources to meet his demands, but he's willing to consider our offer. There won't be any for now...

Looking at our fixtures list, I see this in the fixture details for the final game:

Look at the line that say "Matt Cross away on international duty with England". Say that again?!? I see that the England U21 squad is playing in the U21 Euro Championship, but only on May 28, while we play on May 23rd. Without any other information I gotta hope he'll be available and that this message is simply not right...

May 22, 2010
DAMN!
The "Int" tag has appeared next to Matt Cross' name!!! Nice for him, a big blow for us! Only a day before the final is here, let's hope for us that Andrew Johnson won't get called up too, or else we'll be in trouble...

May 23rd, 2010
Ben Watson
resumes full training after missing one month with his wrist injury. Good for him, but useless for us. See ya next season kid...

I get a weird message in my inbox and for a moment, my heart stopped. Title of the message simply says: "Player called up for international duty"... I immediately thought some England U21 striker had been injured and they were calling up Andrew Johnson. Turned out it was simply a confirmation that Matt Cross was going to be part of the England U21 squad for the U21 Euro Championship. phew...

While looking at who could play for Ricky Hanson at right full back, I come upon John Davies, currently on our U18 squad. Wow, how this kid has improved over the course of the last season!!! Look at his player profile:

He's just coming off an injury and is not 100%, and even less match fit. I'm not too sure that putting him in for the final would be a good idea, although it's not entirely impossible. But I'm seriously thinking about him taking over the right full back spot for good next season. On paper, he's way more impressive than Craig Crane is...

Well, this is it folks. You know as much as I know about the team and where we are. I'm done reporting what had already been played. The final, barring any unforeseen family events, should be played tonight as I'm up to May 23rd 15h00, gametime, in the game.

Usually, I'd play some and report back tomorrow, but I may simply play the game and come back here to report on it tonight, either absolutely ecstatic, or completely heartbroken...

Wish me luck!

WOW 8 month injury! Granted, it seems to be the femur he broke, which explains it, but still, YIKES! That's rivaling MY injuries

Good luck in your final match tonight...hopefully their squad will be slightly depleted also..

Woah, you're good. I reread the report I made about the injury and I don't see where I mention anything about the thigh, but you come up with the femur. The game is indeed described as "Broken leg (thigh)" in the game

One thing you're not as good at though, is picking up on my personal touch, just for you. That, or you don't want to comment about it

Thanks. I honestly don't remember what their squad looks like at least not as far as injuries. I'll take a long look at them before I play the game tonight, well, in a few minutes in fact

See ya all later!

We finally play the English Championship Playoffs final against Burnley at Wembley Stadium.

Looking at their team I discover a few little things. First, they had to play extra time to win their playoff semi final against Nottm Forest. If you remember correctly, they were up 2-0 on aggregate before Leg 2. Well, looking at the match report of Leg 2, I saw that Nottm Forest won the second game 4-2 making it 4-4 on aggregate goals. Burnley then scored in the 95th minute to give them the 5-4 win on aggregate.

Second thing I see, their star striker, Juan Pablo Angel isn't on their team anymore. He was on loan from Newcastle and he's gone back to them since Leg 2 of their semi final.

Third, their other possible star on offense, Ben Paszkowec, scorer of 13 on their season, is injured and still out of 2 more weeks. Mark Simpson, his possible replacement isn't impressing me too much.

I make the bold move and I decide to go with the future of my team at right full back. I give the start to John Davies, despite his condition at only 86% and the fact he's not really match fit. Hopefully he can deliver nice pass to his side of the wing, where Marcus Kelly will be taking Matt Cross' place while he's off having fun with the England U21 kids.

Taking Kelly's spot on the left wing, I have Tom Howell. With Howell and Davies in the game, this will give me two regulars of my U18 squad playing in the most important match of our season. That's interesting... and bold, I think...

I decide to keep John Oster on the bench as backup winger, only because he is so much better than Nathan Jameson at kicking penalty kicks and since he's on the bench, there's a good chance he could come in late if need be.

This is not my strongest bench I've had all season, but hey, you do with what you have...

The condition of John Davies increase to 91% as we get to gametime.

Burnley show a 4-4-2 formation with heavy push from the wingers. They gotta be hoping that their wingers will be generating offense for their lack of offense in the middle...

Only 8 minutes have passed when we get our second great scoring chance. We're pushing them hard, pressuring their defenders very hard...

In the 21st minute, Keigan Parker and Marcus Kelly overlap on the right wing. Kelly passes the ball to Parker on the outside. Parker tries to take a shot from a distance, but it's blocked and deflected toward Marc Bircham who nods the ball to Kelly. Kelly gets away from the nearest defender and hits the bal high and hard toward the goal for the go ahead goal!!! We're up 1-0.

8 minutes later, Nigel Quashie take a shot from long range and hits the crossbar. Andrew Johnson puts the ensuing rebound in the stands behind the net. At this point, 29 minutes into the game, we're shutting them out of any shooting opportunity, while shooting 6(4) ourselves.

The half ends with us up 1-0. We got 9 shots in the half, 4 on target, while shutting them down completely. We're also controlling the ball outragesouly, with 63% split 11-28-24 (our end-middle-their end). Andrew Johnson's condition is the lowest on the team at 77%. I will watch him. No tactics change, if it ain't broke, don't fix it...

Int he 58th minute, Marcus Kelly turns on the afterbunner and takes off on the right wing. After running past a defender as he entered their penalty area, he runs by another one and gets to the 6 yard box before making a tiny center to Andrew Johnson, standing alone on top of the 6 yard box. AJ has no problem converting this easy goal. We're up 2-0.

Andrew Johnson gets a goal disallowed in the 67th minute as he barely strayed into an offside position. At this point in the game, their penalty area is our playground

In the 73rd minute, their left full back gets his second yellow card. They'll have to finish with 10 men on the pitch. Hrm, they go to a 4-4-1 formation, they must have given up...

I put Steve Brooker in for Andrew Johnson in the 82nd minute, as AJ's condition has dipped to 67%. I also sub out Nigel Quashie at that point. He's rated at 6, but probably because he can't seem to control any of his shots and keeps putting the ball into the stands.

It's the Tom Howell show in the 88th minute. Howell absolutely steals the ball from their right full back, then run on the left wing. His first try at a center is blocked, but Mathew Sadler is there to pick it up and pass it back to Howell. This time around, Howell's center to the near post is perfect and Steve Brooker has no problems heading it in. We're up 3-0!!!

WE WIN!!!
THE RANGERS ARE GOING TO THE PREMIERSHIP!!!

Final Score: 3-0

We oustshot them 20(10) to 1(1) on the game. Complete dominance!
Marcus Kelly is named Man of the Match, as he's been so often this season. The interesting thing this time is that he played as a leftie on the right side and still got a rating of 10! He had 14 runs past opponents and won his 5 tackles.

Tom Howell also had a nice game getting rated at 9. Danny Shittu, Matthew Bates, Marc Bircham and Andrew Johnson all got rated at 8.

John Davies had a good game, getting a rating of 7. He had 8 interceptions in the game.

Matthew Bates sprained his wrist in the game and will miss a week, but who cares...
WE'RE GOING TO THE PREMIERSHIP!!!!

Ben Watson and Matt Cross both had an increas in their wage triggered by the promotion of the team, but who cares...
WE'RE GOING TO THE PREMIERSHIP!!!!

Thanks, it really caps an amazing season for me. Winning League One, well it was almost a given. We were coming down and I would have fully expected to get sacked if we had not won, or challenged really hard for the League One Title. Now, to promote to the Championship, be undefeated for 22 games to start the season, then still fight it hard and win the playoffs, that's sweet. And we did it despite missing players for many reasons, be it injuries or stupid international duty at the last minute...

Yeah, well, I don't know how long we'll survive up there, but the very first team report I saw from my assistant manager said something like we have absolutely no chance of avoiding relegation if we don't bring in many new players, basically that our team sucks and we need a whole new set of players to be competitive... lovely...

I'll enjoy the high while it's still fresh

Thanks condors. As for avoiding relegation, I'm really nervous about it. That's the main thing about promoting. You know you need to upgrade parts of your team, not to say the whole team if I listen to my assistant manager, but then if you go overboard and can't secure a spot out of relegation, you're stuck with humongous wages the following year, as you go back to the lower league... I'm torn. One way, I see that maybe, just maybe, my ball patient control tactic could do the trick and give me a win here or there to keep me out of the bottom three. The other way, I'm unsure if we have the overall talent to survive, good tactic or not. I mean, if you're not quick enough, or you can't dribble the ball like the worldclass bunch that are in the Premiership, what good can an amazing tactic do to you?

I'll report on a few little funny things today, but it's really a world on whole other level, the Premiership I mean, compare to the Championship. It's my first time in the big league, and it should be quite an experience

Following our win in the Championship Playoffs final, I realize that I forgot to mention the reason behind my decision to give the start to John Davies. I had saved his player profile and was very impressed by the skills was seeing in there and I didn't remember them being so high in the first place. I pulle my team's report from FM Scout and here's what I came up with, after the fact mind you but it confirmed that the kid had indeed honed his skills while playing with our U18 squad. Look at how he improved between July 12, 2009 (d1) and May 23, 2010 (d2), impressive!

+5 in crossing and +4 in numerous skills, very good work kid! I may try to move Craig Crane and give the starting job to Davies next season...

Now on to the season awards show in the Championship...

Marcus Kelly is selected in the English Players' Championship select. He's earned it. I wouldn't be surprised one bit if he'd be selected as Q.P.R. Fans' Player of the Year.

I come in 2nd for Manager of the Year, behind Southampton manager Steve McMahon and ahead of Gillingham Manager, Andy Hessenthaler. One could argue that I could have easily won that award, as we came into the season with 33-1 odds to promote, while Southampton were already seen as contenders, with 5-2 odds for promotion. Anyway, I'm extremely happy with our season, who wouldn't be

Scott Donnelly's loan period with Notts Co comes to and Scott says he's sad to leave them. He also hopes that the experience he gained while on loan over there will help him crack to starting lineup at Loftus Road... He nice, if not spectacular stats while at Notts Co. He played in 11 competitive matches, scoring a goal and assisting on another. He was named Man of the Match once too, averaging a form rating of 7.18 over his three month loan period. Skill wise, I'm disappointed. Scott has regressed in 8 technical skills, losing a point per skill in corners, crossin, dribbling, free kicks, long shots, passing, penalty taking, and technique. I guess you don't send you players on loan to improve on tehir technical skills, but more to gain gametime and experience, which they can later use to better their skills when they get back with the team... His loan period did wonders to his reputation though, as can be seen from his value that jumped from $260k pre loan, to $1.95M post loan. Some of it could also be because we're now seen as a bigger club now that we've locked promotion...

Well, what Scott Donelly has lost in technical skills, he's gained it in bad attitude, as he whines about not being part of the first-team. He's told the club's website that he wants to stay loyal to the Rs but is finding it very hard to accept that he is not in the manager's first team plans. The 22 year old attacking midfielder also said that he is looking to me to either play him regularly of risk losing him. Well, well, take a number my friend, there are plenty of guys who would like to play first team...

Remember that I commented about my assistant manager's view as to us possibly avoiding relegation next season, right? Well, look at this team report, as of May 26:

ouch, "believes that Q.P.R. will have absolutely no chance of avoiding relegation unless the squad is strengthened in every department" me thinks it could even include upgrading the assistant manager department I mean, the games are still played on the field as far as I know. Everybody starts the season with a 0-0-0 record, we'll see how it goes from there... It's interesting to see that he adjusts his stars rating according to the league in Which we play. At the end of the current season, everybody on the first 11 was a 5 stars, except the two full backs (Sadler/Davies) who were 3 stars and possibly Evans who was a 4 stars. Now we only have 2 five stars in Danny Shittu and Marcus Kelly. Shittu, I just can't argue about, the guy's a machine. Kelly, I hope it simply means that the last season wasn't a fluke. The guy started the season with us not even clinching the starting spot, and shined from day one. Hopefully he's got more of his nice moves to shake and bake his way in the Premiership

May 28, 2010
In his international round-up, my assistant reports that Matt Cross did well for the England U21 squad, coming in as a sub. He rated at 7 and at least he played. I would have been majorly pissed off had he not played at all after missing our Playoffs Final...

Q.P.R. announce the transfer budget for the upcoming season, a whopping $750k Woah, and they expect me to be competitive with that?!? At least we'll be able to retain 100% of any transfer fund received in the sale of a player.

One good news though, the wage budget has been upped from $150k to $280k, that is a good news. We're currently at $185,880 in wage per week, with Gino Padula, Lee Cook and Iván Kaviedes about to be dropped from the payroll, so about a $15k saving there, but we also have a centre back coming, for whom we'll be paying about $11k per week...

Seeing this new wage budget, I go take a look at a few players, their values, and their wage requests, in particular Andrew Johnson, Ben Watson, and Keigan Parker, whom all believed that Q.P.R. didn't have the resources to meet their demands prior to our promotion to the Premiership. And woah, those are crazy demands, look at this:

Andrew Johnson: wants $37k per week with an $800k signing fee

Jeppe Lund Curth: wants $33.5k per week with a $600k signing fee

Keigan Parker: wants $26k per week with a $550k signing fee

Ben Watson: wants $25.5k per week with a $550k signing fee

Marcus Kelly: wants $42k per week with a $500k signing fee

Kelly is the most hungry for money. He's currently earning some 6k per week, or say $312k a year. He's looking to earn 42k per week, or $2.184M a year

Sure, we're close to $95k under budget for our wages, but with demands like these, we're looking at resigning 4-5 of our current players and that's it, woah... When I said it was a whole new game, I wasn't joking...

The Team Board are still delighted by my managerial performance. As I said before, music to the ears

Matt Cross played again for the England U21, again coming on as a sub. He got rated at 7.

Once again, Matt Cross came in as a sub for the England U21. Weird thing that makes me question the sanity of the U21 manager, the game went to penalty kicks and Matt kicked the first one. He missed, but he's also only rated as a "4" in penalty kicks... Err, why would you open up the penalty kicks shootout with a guy that sucks at penalty kicks???
