Post Fight Commentary - Joe Bagadonuts

I thought we were going to win this one, but for some reason Beans didn't open up in the 12th. I'll have to go back and look at the fight plan to see why. Beans was a monster tonight, pounding away at will. I surprised Perry was able to stayed on his feet. We should have won this fight, and I'm disappointed in the loss. Hopefully, we'll get back in the win column with the next one.

Joey "The Jester" Jenkins (8-4-0 6/2) vs Pacho O`Kelly (10-5-2 7/3)

PreFight Assessment

Here is a fight with two contestants that appear very similar by the numbers. Both are winning 2/3rds of their fights, both have a majority of wins by KO (pancho 7 out of 10 - jester 6 out of 8), neither has been KOed many times (pancho 3 and jester 2). Moreover, both fighers get KOs from being better conditioned than their opponents, not from being KO artist. However, thats where the similarities end. Pancho has much faster hands and Jester is significantly stronger. The rest of the numbers are comparable.

This is a tough fight because for a slugger Jester is very active, scoring up to 60+ points in rounds. We will try to maximize our hand speed advantage, and thanks to the assistance of Condors and JAG, I think we have a good plan.

The keys to the fight are:

- We need to win the early rounds so we'll have a lead and can protect ourselves when he opens up in the 10th (as we expect he will do).

- We need to tire at about the same rate he does (hopefully the resting rounds implemented in the plan will allow us to do that).

As you can see we are walking a fine line here. We have to get a lead before the 10th but we have to take some rounds off to keep from having his power punches wear us out.

----------------PREDICTIONS----------------

I hate making one. I've been pretty successful in sparring, but I have a bad feeling about this fight. I'll say Pancho holds on to win 114 to 113, after having a big lead and getting Knocked Down late.

INSIDE THE FIGHT

Joey "The Jester" Jenkins (8-4-0 6/2) vs Pancho O'Kelly (10-5-2 7/3)

Matchups

Hand Speed: O'Kelly has above average hand speed for a fighter in his class. He consistantly scores well with the judges despite winning the majority of his fights by KO. Jenkins has a tendency to look for more power in his punches instead of quick jabs, so this is not as well-developed as some of his other skills. Edge to O'Kelly

Foot Movement: This might be the strongest part of O'Kelly's game. He's a very nimble fighter for his size and his strong calves result in powerfully quick movements. However, Jenkins is even more impressive as a result of his extensive training with tigers (rumors are he will take over for Roy in Vegas). Slight Edge to Jenkins

Conditioning: Both fighters are very well-conditioned and are not expected to overly tire in this match. Even

Strength: This might be the biggest discrepancy between the fighters. Jenkins is known widely for his ability to wear down an opponent with punishing bows. O'Kelly, while not a weakling, is not in the same class as Jenkins. Large Edge to Jenkins

Chin: Both of these fighters have mostly avoided being knocked out in their careers, but that's mainly due to their fighting styles: Jenkins' opponents are usually too exhausted to try and knock him out while O'Kelly has usually been able to dance away from opponents' power. Neither has really shown themselves capable of taking a hard shot and staying upright. O'Kelly's hard work on his hand speed and movement has kept him away from the Bagadonut's pattened stockade chin improver, though you never read that here. Even

Knock-Out Ability: O'Kelly has toppled some unsuspecting opponents with surprising power. He is not a true KO artist, but does have some ability if opponents leave themselves vulnerable. Jenkins has a high percentage of knockouts, but generally his opponents are so exhausted at the end of matches that I could knock them out. He hasn't had much luck trying to knock out anyone who wasn't tired. Slight Edge to O'Kelly

Intangibles: Jenkins has a history of getting flustered if he feels like he's losing rounds late in the fight and tends to open himself up too much trying to catch up. This could pose him problems against O'Kelly, as Joe Bagadonuts is a wily coach and will no doubt use this to his advantage. Jenkins has also shown himself to be a little lazy in that he looks more for power punches than some jabbing which could win him rounds. Again, this might be a matchup problem for him as O'Kelly has shown himself to have great punching speed and isn't afraid to take a bunch of swings. Edge to O'Kelly

Outcome: This will be a match of Jenkins power and agility versus O'Kelly's speed and feistiness. Jenkins will try and wear down the somewhat slower and less strong O'Kelly while O'Kelly will try and get a lot of punches in to win rounds while resting a bit to avoid being worn out. O'Kelly has shown himself to be a flexible fighter while Jenkins has been mostly predictable in his career. O'Kelly will get the early lead and hang on for a win on the cards. O'Kelly in a unanimous decision

Post Fight Commentary - Joe Bagadonuts

I am very pleased with the outcome of this fight. Jester is an extremely tough opponent. Pancho took some shots to win and his face shows it, but the only rounds Pancho lost, were the ones he rested in. It was a completely dominating performance, and a win I am very proud of. I have to thank the consultants that have been brought in, Condors and JAG. The have advanced my strategies, helped me scout opponents and generally made me a better trainer. Hopefully, this arrangement will provide even greater benefits in the near future.

Man Butcher has his work cut out for him this week. His opponent has thrown as many as 20 power punches in a round, but he's also jabbed enough to score over 200 pt in a round. I'll have more detail later....first I have to try and figure out how to beat this guy.

Hurricane has a pounder. If we can stay away from his power, we can win pretty easy. Just have to worry about a lucky punch.

INSIDE THE FIGHT

Brian “The Butcher” Babson (10-1-1 4/0) vs Hatchets n Hammers (11-1-0 6/1)

Matchups:

Overview: Two evenly matched fighters in almost all areas.

Hand Speed: Both fighters have above average hand speed, but Hatchets n Hammers has shown in the past a preference to jab mightily when trying to impress the judges. Slight edge to Hatchets n Hammers

Foot Movement: Again, both fighters excel in moving around the ring. Hatchets n Hammers might have a slight advantage here, but some of his opponents have been such statues in the ring he may just look superior by comparison. Slight edge to Hatchets n Hammers

Conditioning: Both fighters are very well-conditioned and are not expected to overly tire in this match. Both Babson and Hatchets n Hammers have been known to take off a round or two if they get too tired. Even

Strength: Babson’s controversial “Sleeping on Dumbbells” approach to strength training gives him a slight edge over his opponent’s more traditional training.. Slight edge to Babson

Chin: Yet again, both fighters have shown an ability to take a solid shot to the head. A slight edge here to Babson who has yet to be knocked out in his career. Slight edge to Babson

Knock-Out Ability: This is a difficult area to assess, as both fighters have shown surprising power in knocking out overzealous opponents. There are whispers from the FOFC gym that Babson has been meeting with George Foreman to improve this aspect of his skills. Slight edge to Babson

Intangibles: Both fighters and gyms are close-lipped about their plans for the upcoming bout. Hatchets n’ Hammers is a wily opponent who is very aware of his opponent’s tendencies. He likes to counterpunch against sluggers and has knocked a few of them out with his patience and has outjabbed dancers with amazing rounds over 200 points. His manager has more experience in big fights as evidenced by his 11 regional titles. Babson is a difficult fighter to figure out, as he has changed styles as often as Dennis Rodman has changed hair color. He will have to find a comfort level as he is going through the first rough patch in his career after 9 straight wins to start it. Edge to Hatchets n Hammers

Outcome: The approaches by the different gyms will determine the outcome of this match. Both fighters have danced and both have knocked out opponents. Joe Bagadonuts has quietly stated that he will not allow Hatchets n Hammers to jab Babson with impunity and might see how Hatchets n Hammers reacts to Babson jabbing heavily. However, Babson has never gone this approach before (he hasn’t had a round score over 80 or so) and this could also leave Babson open to a surprise shot from Hatchets n Hammers if he opens up too much. However, if Hatchets n Hammers reacts with trying to outjab Babson, it could leave HIM open to a shot from Babson. The prediction here is Babson will overextend in trying to keep up with Hatchets n Hammers’ jabbing style. Hatchets n Hammers by KO in round 4

INSIDE THE FIGHT

Jimmy “Hurricane” Saunders (11-4-1 7/1) vs Dale Sanders (31-30-1 27/7)

Matchups:

Overview: Two evenly named fighters, but their approaches are far different. Sanders uses raw power to beat opponents to a pulp, but this has left him vulnerable to careful opponents. Hurricane has power that belies his weaker stature, as evidenced by his 7 knockouts, but has shown he can score big on the cards as well.

Hand Speed: Hurricane has a marked advantage in this area. Sanders’ glove speed is quite average. Edge to Hurricane

Foot Movement: Sanders has surprising movement, but Hurricane is a little more nimble.. Slight edge to Hurricane

Conditioning: Hurricane is superbly conditioned and rarely wears down at the end of fights. Sanders’ conditioning is a little more suspect, but not a huge detriment. Edge to Hurricane

Strength: This is Sanders’ calling card, brute strength. He enjoys lumberjacking as a hobby and his powerful muscles have felled many fighters as easily as the trees he’s used to chopping down. Hurricane’s strength may be his greatest liability, but is still about average. Large edge to Sanders

Chin: Sanders’ lack of knockouts is more due to his opponents’ fear of his power than a strong chin. Hurricane has been knocked down numerous times, but only KO’ed once in his career to date. Even

Knock-Out Ability: Sanders excels in knocking out his opponents: 27 of his 31 wins have come through KO and he has had a number of first round knockouts. Hurricane has some ability as well, but more of his KO’s have come in later rounds when his opponents were already worn down. Edge to Sanders

Intangibles: Sanders is a veteran of many bouts, but this has started to work against him. He has become lazy and predictable in the ring, preferring to blindly pound on his opponent until they break. Hurricane has adapted to his opponents well, and although he’s gone through a tough stretch after a fast start to his career, will likely have more motivation than Sanders in this fight. Edge to Hurricane

Outcome: This should be another rung in the ladder for Hurricane. He may take some damage if he opts to slug it out with Sanders, but ultimately will win on the cards. He could also choose to go the more patient careful route and jab Sanders while defending himself heavily. Many careful patient fighters have successfully gone 12 rounds and won on the cards versus Sanders and Hurricane could be the next to do so. Hurricane in a unanimous decision

Yeah, this definitely looks like one where it's necessary to weather the storm and beat him on the cards by jabbing him to death and not getting in close to him until later on in the fight. Joe does a great job of preparing Hurricane for these type of fighters.

Post Fight Commentary - Joe Bagadonuts

We knew this was going to be a tough fight, and we thought we had a plan in place that would give us a great shot to win. Unfortunately, we lost another close decission. With a little luck Babson could still be undefeated.

We were planning to open up and work Hatchets with power punches we he upped his jabbing to win rounds. However, we had such a big lead at that point that we decided to let it roll and see if we couldn't win 1 more round.

Thankfully, this loss didn't hurt Babson's status in the division. Once again we only drop 1 spot in the standing and are still probably 1 win away from being in the top 10.

Damn, Joe- needed to spread the bribery money around a little more next week. One less judge in Hurricane's fight and one more in the Butcher's.

Post Fight Interview - Joe Bagadonuts

I have to admit that this fight plan worked much better than I had anticipated. Hurricane completely dominated his opponent. We knew the Dale would come out and try to impose his type of fight, and if it wasn't working he was going to stick with it. So we decided to win rounds, stay away from his power and protect ourselves from taking injuries.

Hurricane was hardly winded at the end of the fight, and he still won by 8 or more rounds. Very impressive in this fight and in his last 4. Since his cold streak where he lost 3 of 4, Hurricane has gone 3-0-1, and training appears to have made him even more dangerous, allowing me to come up with more complicated fight plans and to adjust quicker to what opponents are attempting to do.

FOFC GYM HAS FIRST TOP 10 CONTENDER

With his dominating performance last night, Jimmy "Hurricane" Saunders has moved to 9th in the Light-Heavyweight Division. This marks the first time the FOFC Gym has had a fighter in the top 10.

"Numerous times we've had fighters on the fringe of the top 10. "Fast Eddie" Ottwell, one of our original fighers before we changed our name to FOFC Gym, quickly rose in the rankings to #15, but he could never get higher than that, " explained Joe Bagadonuts. "I think Eddie got to 15 - 3 or 4 times, but never higher. I think Pancho got to 15, but I'm not sure. I know Babson got to 13 and he's still sitting on 15, but Saunders is the first to crack the top 10."

"We're proud of him, but our goal wasn't top 10...it's to be number 1, and we still have a lot of work to do to get there."

The top 10 has a few fighters that Hurricane has already faced, including the dangerous Dro Finder 5, and the versitile Albie Marcucci.

Hurricane has 4 losses and a tie in his career. Albie Marcucci is one of the fighters that beat Hurricane and he is currently ranked 7th. Jimmy Rednick moved up to Cruiserweight, De Reneged and David Marcucci (Albie's older brother) both retired. Temerity, Hurricanes 1 draw is ranked 26th.

Light-Heavyweight top 10

1. Empire Maker 14-2-1 4 2/1
2. Freedom "Born of the 4th" Usa 22-11-3 0 10/3
2. crafting the perfect number two 20-9-0 0 6/4
4. Jonah Boxer 25-16-3 0 2/7
5. Joey 4 13-2-2 2 1/1
6. Jimmy Twotimes 31-27-3 0 3/2
7. Albie Marucci 12-2-0 0 11/1
8. Flashy Frank Fisher 14-5-2 0 5/0
9. Jimmy "Hurricane" Saunders 12-4-1 2 7/1

INSIDE THE FIGHT

Cuts Like a Razor “Blade” (11-6-0 10/4) 6'0" 190 lbs. vs Jonesy “Stomper” Ferguson (28-23-0 27/23) 6’3” 280 lbs.

Matchups:

Overview: Blade is a typically well-balanced FOFC fighter who has usually worn down opponents and then knocked them out. Stomper is a slow-footed thug who nevertheless possesses great power and 23 of his 27 knockouts have come in the first round.

Hand Speed: Blade’s glove speed is pretty average amongst heavyweights. Stomper stomps, he doesn’t jab. Slight edge to Blade

Foot Movement Blade moves pretty well in the ring. Stomper likes to take root in a comfortable spot. Large edge to Blade

Conditioning: Blade has excellent conditioning and rarely tires in his fights. Stomper’s conditioning is just terrible. Many of his KO losses have come as he collapses in the ring from exhaustion moreso than anything impressive his opponents have done to him. Huge edge to Blade

Strength: Stomper is very powerfully built and his great bulk gives him an advantage over lighter fighters like Blade. In fact, Blade's training prowess at the FOFC gym has dropped him to such a low weight that Joe Bagadonuts has considered dropping him to a lower weight class. Blade’s strength is probably his greatest attribute, but it pales in comparison to Stomper’s. Large edge to Stomper

Chin: Both fighters have fairly average chins, but give the nod to Stomper as his weight advantage will make him difficult for Blade to knock out. About half of the time Stomper was knocked out, he simply collapsed in the ring, but his gung-ho style of fighting has left him open to some opportunistic opponents. Blade has only been KO’ed a few times in his career, and a couple of those were due to overextending in an effort to win. Edge to Stomper

Knock Out Ability: Both fighters have a large percentage of knock out wins, but this clearly is Stomper’s domain, as evidenced by his 23 first round knock outs. Blade’s KO’s have generally come later in the fight after his opponents have tired some, but he has some genuine ability to knock out opponents Large edge to Stomper

Intangibles: Stomper has a simple plan: I must crush you. He generally has failed to adapt to any of his opponents. Unfortunately for him, Joe Bagadonuts has had great experience managing against this very type of one-dimensional opponent and Blade has had good experience against these types of fighters. Large edge to Blade

Outcome: The question isn’t if Stomper will faint, it’s when. If Blade can survive the first round, and history says he will, it’s only a question of time until Stomper stops swinging those huge arms of his and just takes punishment. Blade by KO (TKO) in round 6

Next on tap: Jace Hunter

Jace Hunter (11-5-0 11/4) 6’2” 252 lbs. vs. Dan Turkenkopf (6-1-0 4/0) 6’5” 229 lbs.

Matchups:

Overview: Hunter has rounded himself into a powerful KO artist with good hand speed. Turkenkopf is a powerful fighter with 3 first round KO’s, but is not your typical flasher as Blade’s opponent is.

Hand Speed: Hunter has been known to slip in a KO punch quickly enough that his opponents don’t see it coming. Turkenkopf tries every fight to use his hand speed to his advantage, and in his more recent fight has jabbed heavily, a very strange reaction from a strong fighter. It is still unclear how much of his hand speed is his effort or his innate ability. Even

Foot Movement Hunter is a notoriously sluggish fighter. He has improved somewhat since the start of his career, but still is apt to clinch to reduce his opponents’ advantage in moving around the ring. Turkenkopf is fairly average in this area, but still superior to Hunter. Edge to Turkenkopf

Conditioning: Neither fighter is known for their ability to go deep into the fight. Although Turkenkopf has a couple of wins on the cards, he has generally been exhausted when the fight has gone 12 rounds. Hunter hasn’t yet realized that fights can go as long as 12 rounds. Slight edge to Turkenkopf

Strength: Hunter is a very strong fighter who likes to pummel his opponents with punishing blows while he waits to delivery his KO punch. Turkenkopf is also impressive with his strength, but he is not as strong as Hunter. Edge to Hunter

Chin: Turkenkopf has yet to be knocked out. Hunter has hit the mat for good 5 times. Rumor is that Hunter’s disappearance from the gym this week has something to do with Joe’s patented chin-training as he gears up for this fight. In addition, his slightly greater weight should make it more difficult for Turkenkopf to knock Hunter out. Slight edge to Hunter

Knock Out Ability: Hunter has really started improving as a fighter since he and Joe have concentrated on this aspect of his game. Hunter has become a dangerous opponent capable of knocking out anyone at any time. Turkenkopf has been dangerous as well, with 3 first round knock outs in his first 4 fights and has damanged two of his last three opponents with his power as well. Give Hunter the nod because he’s always looking for an opportunity to lower the boom. Edge to Hunter

Intangibles: Fire Island Gym is widely known as the mad scientist gym of the boxing world. They have a very liberal, almost random, means of training their fighters. Turkenkopf has shown himself to have great power, but in his last fight, he opted to jab heavily, causing him to tire quickly and sustain a mighty beating. His style is definitely to work very hard for the first 2-3 rounds of a fight, then back off quite a bit. He has been susceptible to wearing down due to this high then low activity. The unpredictability works in his favor in that no one knows exactly what to expect. But he is probably not using his talents as best as he could. Hunter knows his strengths and plays to them well. Edge to Hunter

Outcome: Who knows. If Hunter can survive the early part of the fight, which is likely, he’s apt to wear down or simply crush his opponent. The fly in the ointment could be a surprise tactic from his insane opponent. Hunter by KO in round 5

Next up: Les “their” Cherries and an opponent familiar to Blade.

Now you're just talking crazy. Fights aren't supposed to last more than 6 or 7 rounds. Hell, I don't remember ever having been in rounds after those. 'course, I don't remember many of the rounds before those either, damn blows to the head and all, but since when do we go 12, ain't that right Joe?

Joe?

Heh, he must be getting my special salts ready again.

INSIDE THE FIGHT

Les “their” Cherries (12-4-0 11/2) 6’2” 218 lbs. vs. Alton Spencer (10-3-0 4/1) 6’4” 203 lbs.

Matchups:

Overview: Les is a well-balanced fighter in the mold of Blade, although a little stronger and better able to take a punch. Spencer had a dominating win last week against Blade in which Blade was unable to successfully wear Spencer down. Spencer is a careful fighter who prefers to use his quick hands and feet to win on the cards, but has tripped up a few overzealous opponents.

Hand Speed: Les’ hand speed is fairly average and he will have a hard time keeping up with Spencer, who is capable of throwing many more punches than Les. Edge to Spencer

Foot Movement Again, Les has fairly average movement around the ring. It isn’t a liability, but neither is it a strength. Spencer has not been hurt much in his career and a prime reason is his ability to avoid punches. Edge to Spencer

Conditioning: Spencer took a walloping from Blade in his past fight but help up well due to his movement and conditioning. Les normally outlasts his opponents, but is not quite as well conditioned. Slight edge to Spencer

Strength: Les is a among the stronger fighters in the FOFC gym. He claims that his “special training” makes him stronger than other men; strangely he is not usually present during normal training hours. Spencer might want to talk to Les about his training techniques, as his strength is pretty pitiful. Large edge to Les

Chin: Spencer’s only KO came in his first fight. Since then he has carefully guarded himself against stronger opponents. Les has taken punches from some impressive fighters and is a real load to bring down. Slight edge to Les

Knock Out Ability: Les has 11 KO’s to his credit and he likes to look for opportunities to sneak in some power punches. His ability is not as refined as FOFC gym partner Hunter, but word is he’s been so impressed with Hunter’s ability that he too is working on this aspect of his game. Spencer has surprisingly dropped some opponents, but it was more a matter of self-defense against opponents who overexerted themselves. Edge to Les

Intangibles: Spencer has not shown much creativity in his attack plan, although it is difficult to argue with the success that he’s had. However, surely the FOFC gym has been made aware of his tendencies and will look to take advantage of it. His manager has not been overly successful, with an overall losing record and no titles in over 2800 fights. Edge to Les

Outcome: After watching Blade go down without doing much damage to Spencer this past week, surely Les will be pulling out all the stops to drop Spencer. And KO him Les must, as he can’t match the speed or agility of his taller opponent. Spencer has not been KO’ed since his very first fight, but the prediction here is Les will learn the lesson from Spencer’s fight with Blade. Les by KO in round 12

Good luck heavies, hope we go 3 for 3 this week. This might be among the most entertaining fights seen here in a while, as Les is really going to have to go after Spencer to bring him down, Blade will get to watch a giant tumble, and Jace will have to see what kind of crazy stuff his weird opponent comes up with for this week.

Thanks for the write ups JAG.

Just a quick note:

Cherries has been successful in limited sparring. Of course sparring is designed against simple fight plans, so we'll have to see what happens, but we have a shot with the plan in place.

Blade has been able to survive early and distroy his opponent by the middle rounds in sparring.

Hunter, I'm not sure what to expect from the opponent, but the plan has worked against a variety of attacks. It works best however if the opponent tries to win early rounds and jab (leave him open to Hunter's power).

Good Luck,
Joe

Post Fight Comments - Joe Bagadonuts

This was a great win for Cherries, and our fight plan worked to perfection. We felt waiting till late in the fight to open up and go after Spenser was going to be fruitless. Spenser would have a big lead by then and probably would be running and covering up to protect himself. We wanted to inflict some body blows early then use our superior strength and drop him. Great job by Les, and great plan orginally conceived by JAG.

First I have to say I'm glad we won. Second, I have to say...I hope we permenantly damaged Turkenkopf, or damaged him enough that he will be forced to retire.

I have never seen a more blatant disregard for rules and boxing ediquit. I have also sent a letter to the commissioner to have the referee repremanded for not taking action sooner.

This was a great win, and it may be the first time Hunter has seen the 12th round. A milestone to say the least. I was pleased with his performance, and hopefully this is something we can build on.

Let me start by announcing that Blade will be dropping in weight class. His training has been so extreme that his weight has routeenly dropped into the 180's to 190. We feel that's just too light to compete against heavyweights. I know it's ironic to announce this after he just beat a 280 lb opponent, but we just feel it is the best thing for his career.

Now, about the win over Stomper. It is amazing to me how good Blade is at beating these fat as.... -- um bodied... boxers that can punch for a few rounds but that is about all. I tell you what...if your fighting Blade, you better come into the ring well conditioned or he'll make you pay for your laziness.

Heh...wicked! Will my fight style have to change now that I am a light heavyweight?

If only I was so conditioned in real life!

Your actually a cruiserweight. I think you'll match up well, but you will probably have more power in this classification than in heavyweights. I'll probably need a couple of fights to figure out your best mode of attack, but I think we'll be more successful in the lower classification.

I'm also hoping we'll run into some of the wreakage that Butcher left behind, so we'll have an idea what they like to do.

Um, maybe a stupid question, but I'm assuming it's not random choice for headbutting your opponent, how is this viewed in this game?

Nice work on getting past that and knocking that jerk on his ass though.

Hey Travis,

There's actually two types of cheating. There's unintentional, which has a small chance of occurring (it can occur twice in the same fight causing you to lose a point), and then there's intentional. When you purposefully cheat, you increase the amount of damage done to an opponent by 5% (or 10% if the ref doesn't catch you). However, you have a 50% chance of being caught by the ref. If you're caught, you have a chance of being DQ'ed from the fight which increases with every incident of being caught (and you at least lose a point after you've been caught after being warned). It makes no sense that he was cheating while jabbing at you because jabbing doesn't cause much damage anyway.

Congrats to the winners. I like that Jace had a 3 point lead in the 12th but couldn't bear to let the match get to the cards. I think his father might have been put to death by a crooked judge and he has vowed to never let judges determine the outcome of his fights. I also really liked the "Blade hits again and again and again...Stomper seems confused!" line.

INSIDE THE FIGHT

Bobby “Baked” Beans (9-8-0 9/2) 5’5” 135 lbs. vs. Tim Horner (8-8-0 5/5) 5’5” 135 lbs.

Matchups:

Overview: Beans has had an up-and-down career. After winning 5 of 6 fights by knockout, he has dropped two fights by decision in matches where it seemed he was too mellow and apathetic to win. He has vowed a new attitude however and has warned future opponents to beware. His current opponent had won 5 of his last 6 ironically, before getting pummeled in the first round of his last fight. Horner is a very active fighter who oftentimes tires himself out while raining blows on his opponents. He has impressive power which he uses against weaker foes and will dance away from stronger boxers.

Hand Speed: Beans gets the nod here though his speed is just a hair above average. He usually does not use his speed to win rounds though, preferring to inflict pain on his opponent. Horner is slightly slower, but the advantage for Beans in minimal. Slight edge to Beans

Foot Movement Both fighters are perhaps average with their foot movement. Neither usually prefers to emphasize this aspect of their game in their fights. Even

Conditioning: Both fighters have somewhat below average conditioning. Horner has been more prone to tiring late in fights, but he also pushes himself more than Beans normally does. Even

Strength: Yet again, both fighters are quite strong and normally try to use their strength to muscle inside against opponents. It would be difficult to say which fighter has an advantage here. Even

Chin: Beans has an outstanding ability to withstand a punch, surpassing even FOFC gym’s heavyweight fighters. Horner has an average chin. Edge to Beans

Knock Out Ability: Beans is a powerful knock out artist, with all of his wins coming from knock outs. Horner has been somewhat less impressive, but no slouch in this area either. He often likes to wear an opponent down for half the fight, then unload some power punches to the head and lay down some damage. Slight edge to Beans

Ability to Withstand Cuts: Normally this area isn’t mentioned, however Beans has an incredible ability to withstand cuts. He grew up living with 50 cats and apparently his skin has toughened after various scratches and bites. Edge to Beans

Intangibles: Horner likes to study film on his opponent to determine his plan of attack. His fight plans are usually fairly limited, yet he has enjoyed much success as of late, his last fight notwithstanding. His manager is a bit untested with about 50 or so fights, and it’s quite possible Joe Bagadonuts will cash in on this inexperience. FOFC gym has been very hush about this fight, which usually means they have a surprise in store for Horner. Edge to Beans

Outcome: Beans has vowed to come out swinging in this fight, which means you don’t want to arrive late for this one. This could leave him vulnerable if his opponent is not cowed coming into this fight. However, given Beans’ history, the guess is that Horner will play it careful early on. When two KO artists go at it, the result usually isn’t pretty for one of them, and Beans seems to have the edge is various categories. Beans by KO in round 6

INSIDE THE FIGHT

Pancho O’Kelly (11-5-2 7/3) 5’10” 153 lbs. Ranked #22 vs. Wes Slayton (9-2-0 2/0) 5’5” 153 lbs. Ranked #21

Matchups:

Overview: Pancho O’Kelly started as the FOFC Gym’s most successful fighter and went unbeaten in his first 6 fights. In his 7th fight, he was knocked out by Mike “The Punisher” Knight, after which he didn’t seem to be the same fighter, going 4-5-1 over his next 10 matches. He seems to have experienced a small revival in winning his last two matches and he’ll look to build on that tonight against Wes Slayton, who has been a point-machine in going towards a 9-2 record. Will Pancho be able to keep up with Wes’ level of activity?

Hand Speed: This is one of Pancho’s strongest areas, but Slayton is amazingly quick and almost always has a superior amount of punches landed than his opponent. It is not unusual for him to score over 130 points for the length of the fight. Edge to Slayton

Foot Movement Pancho is usually adept at outmaneuvering his challenger in the ring. Slayton is even more impressive, oftentimes tiring opponents who try and chase him down. Edge to Slayton

Conditioning: Pancho has excellent conditioning and it is uncommon to see him tire at the end of fights. Slayton is similarly well conditioned. Even

Strength: Pancho is about average in his punching strength. Recently he has gone to more of a dancing approach to win matches as his last two wins have been on the cards. Slayton strength is below average, and it’s surprising to see that he has even two knockouts. Slight edge to Pancho

Chin: Pancho’s ability to take a punch is fairly average, although he has moved well in the ring to avoid most punishment in his career. Slayton has not been knocked out in 11 fights, but much of that can be attributed to a very careful boxing style. Even

Knock Out Ability: Pancho has a modest ability to knock out an opponent, but has put what he has to good use, as 7 of his 12 wins have come via KO. Slayton has 2 wins by KO, but those were more due to opponents overextending to try and inflict damage on him. Slight edge to Pancho

Intangibles: The main thing that stands out here is Slayton’s incredible arrogance in the ring. He doesn’t bother to alter his style based on what opponents do. Even when an opponent is clearly outpointing him, as happened in one of his two losses, he feels confident the judges will still grant him the victory. His manager in the House of Style gym has been surprisingly unsuccessful in getting him to alter his approach. Despite Slayton’s advantage in some important areas and his impressive record, this character defect will cause him huge problems in the ring against the wily Pancho. Large edge to Pancho

Outcome: It seems that there are a lot of fighters that aren’t willing to alter their plan in the ring and Joe Bagadonuts is highly successful preparing his fighters against this type of opponent. Look for Pancho to work hard to win rounds against Slayton and come up big on the cards for his third straight victory. Pancho by unanimous decision

Post Fight Comments - Joe Bagadonuts

The score doesn't indicate how much Pancho dominated this fight. It took a couple of rounds to figure out how hard Panch was going to need to work to win rounds. Then everytime we got a big lead, Pancho upped the power punching to try and do some damage to Slayton. We knew the power punching would not win the rounds, but we had a big lead...so it seemed like a good idea.

This win places Pancho in the top 20, and puts him back on the map in the Super-welterweight division.

On tap tonight, Blade tries out his new division, Hurricane tries to continue his climb up the top ten, and Butcher faces an incredibly strong opponent. More info coming later.

INSIDE THE FIGHT

Brian “The Butcher” Babson (10-2-1 4/0) 6’ 4” 190 lbs. vs A.J. hardcore Applecore (17-7-0 17/7) 5’6” 190 lbs.

Matchups:

Overview: A brutal matchup for Butcher, as he goes against the incredibly strong Applecore.

Hand Speed: Butcher has an advantage here, as his longer reach will enable him to land more punches on average than his opponent. Edge to Butcher

Foot Movement: This is where Babson has his greatest advantage. He is a very nimble fighter and is able to avoid many punches from his opponents. Applecore is very sluggish in the ring and usually must clinch tightly to his opponent to prevent being outflanked. Edge to Butcher

Conditioning: Although both opponents are conditioned roughly the same, expect Butcher to tire against Applecore’s powerful blows. Slight edge to Applecore

Strength: This is the key mismatch of the fight. Butcher has improved his strength to wear it’s not a liability against many opponents…but not this one. Applecore is incredibly powerful and likes to pound on an opponent’s body to wear him down early. Huge edge to Applecore

Chin: Babson has a superior chin to Applecore, who has sustained 7 knock outs in his career. However most of these knock outs were due to poor movement in the ring moreso than his ability to take a punch. Slight edge to Butcher

Knock-Out Ability: Despite having less strength than his opponent, Butcher has more raw knock out ability than Applecore. In fact, this might be Butcher’s only saving grace in this match to protect himself from Applecore just opening up like crazy and unloading on him. Edge to Babson

Intangibles: Applecore a few weeks ago got fed up with his manager and switched to the FOWL PLAY H. O. H. gym. Readers with excellent memory may remember this gym as the one who managed two fighters, DE KeeP and Fun 4 All, that Butcher KO’ed and one fighter, Hatchets n Hammers, who just beat Butcher in a split decision. FOWL PLAY H. O. H. was very careful with Hatchets n Hammers after having his two previous fighters KO’ed by Butcher and this proved to be the difference. Having so much experience fightnig Butcher will no doubt be a large advantage for coming up with a successful approach. Joe Bagadonuts has been working on his fight plan for days now, trying to get it just right by bringing in large quantities of similar fighters to Applecore for Butcher to spar with. This will be one hell of a battle.Even

Outcome: This is as difficult a matchup as Butcher has ever had. He has some KO ability, but it may not be enough to keep Applecore honest. If Butcher doesn’t properly take his shot when he sees a weakness in Applecore’s game, it may be too late for him, as he will wear down quickly under Applecore’s powerful blows. Applecore has some problems to overcome as well. If he doesn’t wear Butcher down enough, he will probably lose on the cards. If he tries to do too much to wear Butcher down, he has a good chance of being KO’ed. Bagadonuts has Butcher supremely prepared for this fight, but in the end, it’s just a poor matchup for Butcher. Applecore by KO in round 8

INSIDE THE FIGHT

Jimmy “Hurricane” Saunders (12-4-1 7/1) 6’ 0” Ranked 9th vs Flashy Frank Fisher (14-5-2 5/0) 6’ 5” Ranked 8th

Matchups:

Overview: Two Top 10 fighters in the SE conference duke it out to see who moves up the charts to challenge for the SE regional title. Hurricane is a balanced fighter who often gives other boxers matchup problems. Fisher is a tall lanky fighter who prefers to jab but mixes in some rounds of counterpunching to KO fighters who overextend themselves.

Hand Speed: Fisher and Hurricane have above average glove speed, each landing the majority of the punches they throw. Even

Foot Movement: Both fighters move well in the ring, but perhaps a small advantage to Fisher, who can use his reach to advantage here. Slight edge to Fisher

Conditioning: Hurricane and Fisher are well-conditioned fighters, but again a slight edge to Fisher who is manic about not wearing down at the end of fights. Slight edge to Fisher

Strength: Neither fighter will overpower you with impressive strength, but Hurricane gets the nod here for having a little more oomph behind his punches.. Edge to Hurricane

Chin: Both fighters have impressive chins as they have only been knocked out once between the two of them. Even

Knock-Out Ability: Hurricane and Fisher have both KO’ed some perhaps unsuspecting opponents. Hurricane prefers to wear down his opponents then go after them, while Fisher uses his big counterpunches as a defensive measure to prevent opponents from dropping their guard to attack him. Give Hurricane the nod for being more apt to go after his opponents with his power. Edge to Hurricane

Intangibles: Fisher has been very successful with his style. In a couple of recent bouts, he has had difficulty with highly active opponents who keep a careful defense. Joe Bagadonuts has certainly noted this and Hurricane will benefit. Edge to Hurricane

Outcome: Hurricane may have a surprisingly easy victory here, as he is just active enough to win rounds but keeps a good defense for his opponent’s strong counterattacks. Fisher won’t be able to hurt Hurricane and will lose too many rounds to compete. Hurricane in a unanimous decision
