Two Wings goals in 18 seconds tie it up.
Now they're moving their feet and showing some passion. About time. |

SHARKS!!!!
Marleau just made a hell of a goal to make it 4-1.

Great 2nd and 3rd periods for the Sharks. I can just imagine how the Nashville goalie felt when Cheechoo's shot went through his legs, and trickles into the net. He looked like he thought he had it, and the horn goes off. Then Marleau scores not long after. Great game! I hope they play like this on thursday.

Well, I didn't get to stay up and watch the Wings/Oilers (hell, I had to get up for work 90 minutes after it ended) but its make or break time for the Wings now. They lose Game 4, I can't see them winning 3 in a row.

anyone see Lecavalier take on Chara towards the end of the game last night? Kudos for him for being so ballsy...and kudos for Chara, who could have absolutely creamed Vinny but held back.
3 of the 4 top seeds in the West are down in the series. Meanwhile, tonight, 4 teams (2 favored, 2 dogs) have a chance to go up 3-0.

Anyways, Chara certainly could have drilled him when he was down. The Ottawa cheerleaders, er, media, are making this out to be an act of sportsmanship worthy of the Lady Byng. I'm not sure when deciding not to hit a guy when he's down suddenly became especially praiseworthy, but considering Chara was fined for doing it once already this year I guess we should be happy. The other funny note was that Chara, who injured his right hand fighting Cairns earlier this year, actually fought left-handed. Apparently he's not only a Norris candidate, he's become the Man in Black from the Princess Bride too. By the way, Chris Dingman is an idiot.

I think Vinny's inner monologue went something like this...
Vinny: Hm, it's Chara, OK, just hold on and you'll be fine. (Holds on) Vinny: Hm, just saw a linesman out of the corner of my eye... (Fraser skates over) Vinny: If I time it right, I can land a punch just as the linesman jumps in. And.... bang! (Vinny throws punch) Vinny: Um, where's he going? (Fraser skates away.) Vinny: Oh shit, it wasn't a linesman, it was the ref! (Both linesman are busy breaking up a girlish slap fight between Heatley and Pratt.) Zdeno: Me angry now. Vinny: I'm going to die.

Hockey threads bring out the best in Maple Leafs. He needs his own column or something. I'd say to put his name on the Stanley Cup, but, well...

Game three Habs and Canes tonight... I might not be able to hear anything tonight after the game... I think the Canes will start Ward but if the Habs can stay out of the penalty box, the game will not even be close. The only reason game two was close was because the Canadiens were their own worst enemy. That being said, the Habs have to play the same game they played in games one and two and not try and put on a show in front of the home crowd.
This game is really important because a Canes win would give them life going into game four, and the Habs need to put the hammer down right now... a Canes win will really scare me. |

Last night's game was a bit different than the first two. Not nearly as much trapping by the Oilers. Almost all of their goals were created on turnovers casued by a solid forecheck. From some reason Detroit is really struggling to get it out of their zone. A bunch of misques that have led to Oiler goals. Legace did not play well. The wrap around goal by Smyh was inexcusable. That should never happen, no matter how good a player Smyth is behind (or anywhere within 5 feet) of the net.
Pronger has been the best player in the series bar none. He has completely outplayed Lidstrom, who has looked very average. Lang has been nothing by a liability. Same goes with Shanahan. He looked lost out there the entire game. He never took the puck cleanly and wasn't involved at all in any sort of physical play. He's been awful throughout this series. In fact, his playoff performances in the last 5-6 years have been extremely subpar. If he hadn't scored 40 goals this year, I would say he just doesn't have it in him anymore. The only players on the Wings who have played above average have been Zetterberg, Yzerman, and Schneider. Yzerman got hurt during the 3rd period last night and couldn't take another shift. No idea how serious it is, but losing Yzerman would be devistating on many, many levels. I think Edmonton's chances in this series are better than evens now. The Wings have not really shown the ability to be effective 5 on 5. Almost all of their even strength goals have been very flukey, eg, Maltby's 2 goals and Williams' goal.

I agree with all that HB said and what Detroit needs is a shot in the arm in the form of Chris Osgood.
Mannys taking too much blame from himself, and putting too much pressure on himself (saying if they don't win a cup he won't be back, it's how it is) and however justified he may be, he's not helping his own cause. Hell I don't blame any of this (minus Smyths wrap around) on Manny but we need something to shake these guys up, and having your #1 get pulled because of their awful play might just do that. Plus there isn't much difference if any between Manny and Osgood, and Osgood, for all his bad press, has still won a cup, and has shown he can steal playoff games. While it seems unlikely, this is what the Wings need most. |

What's with Forsberg? Has he always been playing as physical and stupid as he has this series? I'm waiting for another Campbell-like hit against him. I'm glad this game is close. Just go Sabres.

Carolina wins in OT against Montreal tonight, so the Devils are (so far, pending the Colorado-Dallas outcome) the only team to take a 3-0 series lead.
