I went to cheapgas.com and found a place that said it was 3.72 yesterday at 4 PM, but when I got there this morning, it was 3.89. Crazy. I ended up finding another place that was 3.77, though.

The Kroger we go to has gas for $3.55 and $.10 off with a Kroger card. So I paid $3.45 Monday night.
From what I've seen, it's $3.55 out in Stone Mountain to $3.65 as I drive downtown to work. |

During my 15 minute commute to work I pass by several refineries and we can't get it any cheaper. How ridiculous is that?? |

Almost as ridiculous that Jeldwen windows are produced in Winnipeg but can be found for hundreds of dollars cheaper if purchased in Grand Forks. It is cheaper to drive the 200k across the boarder, buy the window, pay duty, and drive home, than it is to buy a window from the building that it is manufactured in. Huh? Canadians are getting screwed on the cost of goods left, right, and center. In fact, I think that most of the world subsidizes cheap prices on almost all goods in the U.S.

A quick note to be fair, the US subsidizes the drug prices for the rest of the world. So I guess it goes both ways, but I think more often it is the US coming out on the good end.

3.39 to 3.49 in the Wildwood, NJ area. Depends on where ya go...the gas stations on the island are outrageous, once you get out of the touristy areas it's a little cheaper.

LOL.......love those gas station islands and the full service pumps in New Jersey. True story........ When I lived in Baltimore a couple of years ago, we decided to drive up to NYC for a basketball game. Stopped at one of the islands on the NJ Turnpike. There was a bit of a line to fill up. After the guy filled up my gas tank, I gave him $2.00 extra as a tip. His exact words to me.......... "Thanks! That f****n' Jew in front of you didn't give me sh**!" Gotta love Jersey. |

3.90 for premium unfort in the Philly Suburbs.
Has anyone cut back on driving because of this? I finally have. I know it's probably more psychological than anything else, but I'll probably spend less in gas each month at 3.90 than I did at $3, just because I'm saying enough is enough. |

I have. I try to take the bus to or from work whenever I can. It's tough, given my schedule, but I can usually manage about once or twice a week. It's kind of tough here, in Detroit, given the horrible lack of public transportation. It's easily the worst of any major metropolitan area in the U.S. Yay for the "Motor City". That's really worked out well for us...

I never expected it when I worked as a gas jockey, but the odd person did and it was a nice surprise. As a customer I never tip though, oddly.

Yeah, I almost always get my own gas. Maybe once a year I end up having to go somewhere that does full service. Only time I've tipped was when it was really really cold out, and the change would've been something like a dollar something... so I just said keep it. |

That's the thing, full service makes me feel awkward. I sit there in my car like a lazy asshole while someone else does something I can easily do myself. It just bugs me, a lot of the time I will get out and do it myself anyways if I don't have the option for self service.

I never have, nor have I ever seen anyone do it and I've lived in Jersey my whole life. I also know a few people who have worked at gas stations, and they said it was rare that they got a tip, and when they did, it was usually an out-of-state person (well, out-of-state license plate, anyway). |

A bit off topic, but, why is gas always $X.XX 9/10? What's up with the 9 tenths? Do gas stations think we won't buy gas if that extra tenth of a cent is added to the price?

Since it's state law in New Jersey and Oregon, giving a tip would be strange since everyone involved are just following the rules. I never did and I grew up in Jersey and lived in Oregon. |

Regular's anywhere from $3.80 to $3.90 in Northern Cook County, IL (just outside of Chicago).
The only thing my wife & I are doing different right now is that because there's a pretty cheap gas station near where I work, we switch cars when her car gets low and I fill it up that day. We were already reasonably gas-conscious as of a number of years ago, so there wasn't a ton for us to change. She's looking into carpooling with some co-workers, which is probably the next step. And our next car will definitely be a hybrid, a clean diesel or a high-mileage stick shift. |

I'm not driving any less due to higher gas prices. It's not all that much more (I usually fill up a little more than 10 gallons at a time every 2 weeks or so, so an extra dollar a gallon more means its a bit more than $10 more, which isn't ALL that much).
Besides, if other people drive less due to it then that means my air quality is getting better and less greenhouse gas, so woot .

Seriously, isn't there something the government can do? We are lucky to live close to work/school so we aren't effected but it is getting worriesome. |
